Abstract

Background & Aim: Web-based technologies provide new opportunities for education, research and professional development of nursing. Nurses have few opportunities to use the Internet due to managers&apos obligations not to use the Internet in work hours, and their traditional attitudes to nursing practice. Establishment of a national nursing portal is a useful way to resolve some of these problems. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the experiences of development of nursing portals in some countries and provide helpful recommendations.

Methods & Materials: This was a descriptive- comparative study. Using systematic review of the literature, the least features for nursing portal structures and contents were identified. Then, the identified features were assessed in selected countries through observation or communication with the portal board.

Results: Personalization, user&aposs profile, search engine, platform-independent display, SSO capability, security mechanisms and collaborative capabilities, clinical guidelines, continuing education, electronic learning courses, and evidence-based nursing processes were common features in the nursing portals.

Conclusion: Development of a specialized comprehensive portal that has all of the desirable features can be achieved through clear definitions of strategies on portal development, maintenance, and analysis of user&aposs requirements. The main requirement to integrate services and contents provided by the portal include specific and integrated structure of all entities in nursing services systems.

Abstract

Background & Aim: Nurses constitute the majority of the workforce in the healthcare system. The use of digital technologies, including mHealth applications, is essential and effective in improving the quality level of healthcare services provided by nursing staff. Therefore, the primary purpose of this study is to investigate the use of mHealth applications for professional purposes by nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Methods & Materials: This is an applied study conducted using the descriptive, cross-sectional method in 2021. The study population was nurses in four public hospitals in Isfahan. The sampling method was a one-stage cluster sampling. The data collection tool was a questionnaire whose validity and reliability was assessed. Data analysis was performed using descriptive and inferential statistics on the SPSS software version 26.
Results: The data of 93 questionnaires were analyzed. About 63 percent of nurses answered (with a reason) that they did not use these applications. This study showed that the use of mHealth applications is not common among the nurses. They need the training to use the applications. There were concerns regarding the mHealth applications' quality. The nurses believed that using a mHealth application would help them perform their nursing duties during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Conclusion: Based on the study results, planning for the development of mHealth applications tailored to the nurses' needs and training nurses to use the applications in clinical settings are recommended. There is also a need to provide and develop specialized evaluation tools and working groups to review and report on the quality of mHealth applications.

Abstract

Background & Aim: Modern professional nursing necessitates the use of information technology to facilitate clinical decision-making and obtain optimal patient care outcomes. The aim of this study was to conduct a psychometric evaluation and adapt the Nursing Informatics Competency Self-Assessment tool for use in Iran.
Methods & Materials: The present research employed a descriptive and methodological design. Initially, the original tool was translated into Persian following a standardized procedure. Subsequent assessments of face and content validity were conducted through expert reviews and the calculation of the content validity index. Reliability was evaluated using both Cronbach's alpha and test-retest methods, including the calculation of the intraclass correlation coefficient. Data analysis was conducted using confirmatory factor analysis on a convenience sample of 300 nursing students from the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Abadan University of Medical Sciences, utilizing SPSS version 22 and LISREL version 8.8.
Results: The content validity index for all items exceeded the standard threshold of 0.79, indicating satisfactory validity scores for each item. The final version of the tool demonstrated acceptable reliability with a Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.898 and an intraclass correlation coefficient of 0.893. Confirmatory factor analysis indicated the fitness of a five-factor structure for the Persian version of the tool. Standardized factor loadings showed a good fit and satisfactory construct validity for the tool within the Iranian context.
Conclusion: The Persian version of the Nursing Informatics Competency Self-Assessment Tool exhibits acceptable psychometric properties within the Iranian nursing population and is recommended for use as a credible instrument in nursing practice.
