Abstract
This study is a descriptive research in order to determine educational facilities and present the kinds of program staff development of nursing officeinhospitalsofuniversity of medical sciences and health services in Tehran, IRAN. The purpose of this research was determinated of the educational space (clossroom, library, Lecture and conference room), educational equipment, educational staff patterns, kinds of nursing staff development program and comparing between educational facilities and present the kinds of nursing development program of nursing office in three medical science university in Tehran. The units that participated in this research was 41 educational facilities and kinds of nursing staff development program of nursing office in three medical science university in Tehran (Tehran, Iran and shahid Beheshti) and no samphing was made. The tools was check list and Questionnarie. Each variable compared with educational standards of hospitals. (Standard 1100% excellent, desire was above 75% and undesired was under 75% and each 100 active bed haveing one educational supervisor).The finding indicated that scale confirmity with standard about educational space in three university was 50% (undesirable) and about educational equipment was 56% (undesirable) and about educational staffing pattern was 79% (desirable) and present kinds of nursing staff development was 56.5% (undesirable). The finding indicated that university medical of science Iran 66.5%, Shahid Beheshti 59.76% and Tehran 55.3% Scale confirmity with stundards have prossess.

Abstract
This is a quasi-Experimental research, which carried out inorder to determine the effect of applying executive in - service education model on quality of nursing care. For this purpose /email's general surgery unit in Bagiatalah hospital was selected (randomaizly) in order to case unit, and then in Najmieh hospital a unit control wasselected with same characteristic 0/the case unit. 30 sample 0f patients were selected/or quality control in each unit(inafterandbeforeintervention).Datagatheredwithducomentation checklist, patient assesment checklist, educational needs questionnaire and nursing practice evaluation checklist.The planning of educational performed based on quality of nursing care and educational needs assesment of nurses in case unit. Then researcherwithheadnurse applied planned educational model for one month and then the headnurse continued it for two more months in case unit. In this model headnurs lead nurses during executive educational model. After applied this educational model and quality control of nursing care in each unit, finding showed that significant quality care increased in case unit (20%), also it showed significant increased 250%. In quality of patient education (The scale of quality nursing care) incare unit rather than other. In this way hypotesis of research is confirmed (P=0/002) that executive in - service education model can increase quality of nursing care.

Abstract
This study is a quasi-experimental research with aim of evaluation the effect of respiratory exercise in acute respiratory complication and the length of time patient hospitalization undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery in Kermanshah Emam Ali hospital in year 2000 The study subject consisted of 60 patients (42 male and 18 Femal), with age rang between 30-70 years old, who were eligible for this study. The subjects were selected with convenience sampeling and randomly allocated to two groups (Experimental and control).
Experimental group received education in two sessions of videoteaching and control group recived routin cares. Tools of data collection consist of demographic questionnaire, clinical records, check list and respiratory exercise.
Results revealed: The incidence rate of atelectasis in experimental group was (26.7%), less than contral group (%56.7), test showed significant difference between incidence rate of atelectasis (P = 0.01).
Therefore the length of hospitalization in experimental group was less than control group (P=0.02).
Accomplishment of post operative respiratory exercises in all samples were lower than doing exercise pre-operatively, and the highest score for effective exercise and coughing were in two and three days after surgery (P=0.000).
The result of this research reveales, videoteaching is effective in promoting nursing care and self care in clients.

Abstract
Introduction: There are different methods of teacher evaluation .The aim of this study was to investigate process of teacher evaluation in selected Iranian Medical of Sciences Universities.
Materials and Methods: In this descriptive-analytic study, we investigate the existing documents and performed serial semi-structured interviews with evaluation staff in the universities. The implementation of the whole process of staff evaluation at universities were also observed. The data were analyzed considering both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The descriptive analytic method as well as content analysis was applied for data analysis.
Results: Review of the teachers by students was the dominant method for teacher evaluation in the selected universities. This method have some important advantages and disadvantages which are discussed in this article according to the findings.
Conclusion: According to the results of this study, it is highly recommended to use a combination of different methods for evaluation of the university teachers as well as decision making purposes.

Abstract
Introduction: It is necessary to give the essential educations to the patients and their families during hospitalization and after discharge. We conducted this study with objective of determining educational needs of patients undergoing CABG and their families at discharge and one month later.
Materials and Methods: This research is a survey study. 60 patients and 60 members of their family who were selected by simple randomization. Data were collected by questionnaire. The questionnaire was prepared in two parts questions about disease and demographic characteristics and specific educational needs about wound care, activity and rest, drugs, nutrition and other needs of patients and their family. The data were collected in two stages: at discharge and one month later and analyzed with SPSS software. Descriptive and inferential statistical methods (t test, test and variance analysis) were used to analyze the data. Results: At discharge, most of the patients and their families had respectively moderate and high levels of educational needs. Both groups had moderate educational needs about rest and activity, drugs use (general educational needs), nutrition and other needs. Patients have low but their families have high educational needs about drugs use (special educational needs). At one month after discharge, most of the patients and their families had moderate educational needs in all of the mentioned categories. The t statistical test didn’t show significant correlation between educational needs at discharge and one month later in patients and families. The test showed significant differences between educational needs of the patients and their families (p=0.036) at discharge but didn’t show such a difference one month after discharge (p= 0.558).
Results: showed a significant relationship between educational needs and level of education.
Conclusion: Since most educational needs of the patients and their families concern the uses of drugs and wound care, and also most patients were unable to count their pulse, we suggest nurses pay more attention to these problems and give the essential training to the patients and their families.

Abstract
Introduction: Nowadays continuing education is considered an essential part of nursing education. This study was planned to evaluate the effect of continuing education of neonatal intensive care nursing on knowledge and the practice of nurses who were working in the children’s hospitals.
Materials and Methods: A semi-experimental study was carried out including 42 nurses of the children’s hospitals affiliated to Tehran University of Medical Sciences during 18 months in 1999- 2000. The data were collected by a questionnaire and a checklist. The questionnaire included demographic information and 60 multichoices questions based on the knowledge of the neonatal intensive care nursing. The observation checklist contained 5 parts, how to establish: resuscitation operation, endotracheal suction, management of the patient under mechanical ventilation, nasogastric tube insertion and feeding by gavage. At the end of the training courses the questionnaire and the checklist were completed again individually. The result of the pre and post tests and checklist were compared in the areas of knowledge and practice. The data was analyzed by 2 and paired t Student test.
Results: Statistical analysis showed a meaningful difference in the knowledge and practice after the continuing nursing education (p<00001).
Conclusion: This research revealed the positive effect of the continuing nursing education on the knowledge and the practice of the nurses who were working in the pediatric wards. It is important to consider the continuing nursing education program to promote the health care system.

Abstract
Introduction: Stress is a complex and physiologic phenomenon that sometimes can be a source of problem. If an individual could not cope with stress, it would be a threat to physical and psychological health. Inclination to cope with stress is a positive way which helps one to improve his/her health.
Materials and Methods: This research is a quasi-experimental study with the aim of determining the effect of education of methods of coping with stress on rate of stress among women working at Tehran University of Medical Sciences. After primary study, 138 cases were chosen through census sampling. The collection tool was Chaudron stress scale. The statistical tests included t test and 2. Data were analyzed by SPSS software.
Results: The result showed that there was no significant difference between level of stress before and after education in domains of job stress (p=0.22), life health stress (p=0.53), personal life stress (p=0.44) and personality stress (p=0.1). Also the statistical result of X2 did not show significant correlation between variables such as type of school, age, duration of work, marital status, number of children, educational level and housing condition with job stress.
Conclusion: The result showed that work environment is an important source of stress for working women. It could have undesirable effects on physical and emotional health of women. It seems that short term education can not decrease the stress of women therefore it is necessary to organize different long-term education programs, consultation and other strategies to reduce stress.

Abstract
Introduction: Education of patients and helping them to be independent in process of self-care in both health and disease is one of the basic responsibilities of nurses.
Methods and Materials: This descriptive-analytic research was done to study perceptions of 317 nurses working in hospitals of Tehran University of Medical Sciences of factors affecting the process of patient education. Data was gathered by means of a questionnaire containing 30 questions about facilitating factors and 17 about inhibiting factors. We used Likert score to measure questions. Data analysis performed by SPSS software. Statistical test were Chi square, t test, variance analysis and correlation of variance.
Results: The highest percentage of nurses (52.1%) believed that enough attention is not being paid to facilitating factors such as considering patient education as priority in patient care, nurses being responsible for patient education, considering patient education as a criteria in nurses annual evaluation, importance of patient education for nurse administrators, having in-service education about patient teaching and having proper time, place and personnel for patient education. Majority of nurses (57.4%) believed factors such as shortage of nurses, lack of proper place, time and patient motivation for receiving education, nurses and nurse administrators’ inattention to patient education and negative attitude of doctors toward patient education by nurses are inhibiting factors in process of education. Statistical tests showed a meaningful relation between demographic variables such as sex, clinical background, shift work and position and facilitating factors. There was also a meaningful relation between variables like working in more than one shift, having clinical experience of patient education and being evaluated for patient education during study of nursing and inhibiting factors.
Conclusion: This study shows low level of facilitating factors for patient education in hospitals of Tehran University of Medical Science. To improve patient education in these hospitals it is necessary to improve facilitating factors.

Abstract
Background & Aim: Youths are the most at risk group for HIV/AIDS in the world and education of the preventive measurements is the most effective way for decreasing the incidence of HIV/AIDS among them. Due to ever-increasing cases of HIV and the importance of education, we compared the effects of three educational methods (peer education, education by physician and giving pamphlets) on knowledge of female high school students&apos of Kerman shah on HIV/AIDS.
Methods & Materials: One thousand and five hundred female third grade students were recruited from 21 high schools using stratified random sampling method. An average of 73 students were selected from each school and participated in a pre-test exam using a questionnaire. Of 1500 students, 498 and 502 students were taught by general practitioners and peers, respectively. Pamphlets were presented to 500 other students. Twenty days after the educational intervention, the participants were contributed in a post-test exam using the very questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics via SPSS version 11.5.
Results: The students&apos mean age was 16.78 (SD=0.7). The mean scores of pretests and post-tests in all 3 groups were significantly different (P<0.001). The mean score for the group taught by general practitioners (10.7±3.6) was higher than the scores of other two group scores (8.8±3.4 and 7.3±3.9, respectively for peer education and pamphlet groups) after the interventions. Bonferroni statistical test showed the significant difference (P<0.001).
Conclusion: Education presented by general practitioners seems to be more effective than the other two ways in increasing students&apos knowledge about HIV/AIDS.

Abstract
Background & Aim: Adolescents have important role in building the societies. Some deficits were observed in students&apos knowledge regarding puberty health. This study aimed to compare the effect of two educational methods (lecture-educational package) on girl students&apos knowledge about puberty health.
Methods & Materials: In this interventional study, 200 students were randomly selected through a multi stage sampling method. Data were collected using a questionnaire. One group received a self-learning educational package and the other group took part in two lecture sessions which totally lasted about four hours. The post test was taken 6 weeks later. Data analysis was performed using Descriptive and inferential statistics.
Results: Results of this study showed that after intervention, both groups&apos knowledge mean scores increased significantly. Also the average of package group&aposs score after the education was more than the other group&aposs score (P<0.001). The difference in knowledge mean scores before and after the intervention was significantly higher in the package group than in the lecture one. The comparison of scores in both groups before and after the education was significantly different (P<0.001).
Conclusion: Both educational methods can be considered to be effective in promoting students&apos knowledge however, the educational package was more effective than the lecture.

Abstract
Background & Objective: Osteoporosis is a metabolic disease which results from gradual destruction of bone mass. Prevention of osteoporosis should be started from childhood by getting adequate calcium and doing weight-bearing exercises. Participating of mothers in health education interventions is likely to promote longer-lasting health behaviors in their daughters. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of simultaneous education of mothers and daughters on osteoporosis preventive behavior among high school female students.
Methods & Materials: In this interventional study, 400 female students were randomly selected via a two-phased sampling method. At first stage, four schools were selected randomly. At the second stage, 400 students were divided randomly into two groups. Their osteoporosis preventive behaviors were measured using a two-sectioned questionnaire: demographic section, and osteoporosis preventive behaviors assessment section. The first group participated in the educational programs with their mothers and the other group participated without their mothers. The educational program had two sessions, each one lasted 45 minutes. The second stage of the study was performed three months later. Data analysis was carried out using t-test and chi squared test.
Results: Results showed that in both groups, osteoporosis preventive behaviors scores increased significantly after intervention. It was higher in case group (P<0.001). Eating behavior was significantly different in two groups (P=0.003).
Conclusion: Results showed that simultaneous educational program for mothers and daughters promotes eating behavior in the girls.

Abstract
Background & Objective: High rates of cesarean delivery have worried health policy makers. One of the main reasons for cesarean section in Iran is cesarean election. Health Belief Model (HBM) is one of the most powerful models used in health education programs. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of education designed based on HBM on choosing delivery mode among pregnant women.
Methods & Materials: In this experimental study, 128 nulliparous women were recruited from Shahrood health care centers and private gynecologists' offices. Samples were randomly allocated into two equal groups. Women in the experimental group participated in two 40-minutes educational classes which were designed based on HBM. Data were gathered both before and after the classes, and then were analyzed using SPSS.
Results: The results indicated that there were no significant differences between two groups in demographic characteristics, infertility history, disease history, perceived susceptibility, and perceived benefits and barriers. After the intervention, significant differences were found between perceived susceptibility (P<0.001), perceived severity (P<0.001), perceived barriers (P=0.004), with practice (choosing the delivery mode) (P<0.001).
Conclusion: The results showed that using HBM in program designing was effective in the pregnant women's decision-making toward delivery mode.

Abstract
Background & Aim: The Clinical Teaching Partner model (CTP) integrates theoretical knowledge with professional skills and brings the reality to workplaces. Closing educational and practical aspects in nursing discipline has been a challenging goal for nursing which requires cooperation between faculty instructors with nurse practitioners such collaboration will led to development and promotion of nursing discipline. Therefore selecting an effective and efficient approach in order to integrate theoretical knowledge with practical experiences would be crucial for nursing profession. This study was conducted in order to investigate the effect of CTP on nursing students&apos clinical skills outcome.
Methods & Materials: A quasi experimental, only post test design was applied. Study sample consisted of 1) three faculty instructors, 2) seven registered nurse practitioners who were staff nurses in three pediatric wards and voluntarily participated in the study and 3) fifty two nursing students which were in the 5th semester of nursing BSc. program and had eligible criteria to enter the study. Students were allocated randomly to the intervention (n=28) and control (n=24) groups. Participants in the control group, initially started their internship period in 3 pediatric wards and were evaluated by faculty instructors regarding their clinical skills at the end students in the intervention group, then started their clinical training course in the same ward as control group, but their clinical education was conducted by the nurse practitioners who voluntarily participated in the study and trained initially in the nursing faculties&apos skill lab. Students&apos clinical skills were evaluated by nursing mentors via some instruments at the end of the educational period in addition, clinical education outcomes and nursing students&apos satisfaction of achievement to apprenticeship goals were assessed at the end of the training period. Data were analyzed using the statistical tests including Chi square, Fisher exact test, Mann-Whiney U, and t-test in SPSS.
Results: Considering students demographic characteristics, both groups were homogenous. There was a significant difference in the students&apos clinical skills between two groups (P<0.001). A significant difference was shown in the nursing mentors and faculty instructors&apos satisfaction of application of cooperative education method between both groups (P=0.004). No significant differences were found between students&apos satisfaction of reaching to educational outcomes between both groups (P=0.058). There were also no statistical differences between nursing mentors and faculty instructors&apos satisfaction of achieving to clinical education outcomes (P=0.109).
Conclusion: According to this study, CTP is an effective approach in clinical education and development of clinical skills for nursing students therefore,
application of this method is recommended in clinical nursing education.

Abstract
Background & Aim: Communication is one of the basic concepts which nursing students must learn. Nurse instructors&apos behaviors have key role on effective clinical education. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of situational leadership model on nursing students&apos communication competency.
Methods & Materials: In this before-after trial, we recruited the students who had medical & surgical practicum in the second semester and summer of 1385-86 in public hospitals in Arak. They were selected randomly and then allocated to case (n=40) and control (n=35) groups. In the first week of practicum (before), we measured the students&apos communication competency using a self-structured questionnaire. For intervention, we defined behavioral objectives and designed a diagnosis form for identifying level of maturity and a feedback form for the students. After orientation of the students with behavioral objectives, we accompanied with main instructors based on their maturity levels in caring and applied effective leadership style. Along with the practicum period, we supervised the students&apos level of maturity in different nursing care skills. In the end (after), we measured the students&apos competency. We analyzed the data in SPSS, version 13.
Results: The results showed that there was significant difference before and after the intervention (P<0.001). Also, there was significant difference between two groups (P<0.001). Self-evaluation showed no significant differences between students&apos competency in two groups (P=0.335).
Conclusion: The situational leadership model would promote nursing students&apos communication competency.

Abstract
Background & Aim: Osteoporosis is a silent and preventable disease that mostly affects women. Osteoporosis prevention requires enhancing knowledge and awareness of students. The purpose of this study was to assess the effectiveness of education on prevention of osteoporosis among high school female students in the sixth distinct of Tehran.
Methods & Materials: In this randomized controlled trial, 600 students were selected using cluster sampling method. Data were gathered using a three-part questionnaire including demographic, knowledge, and practice items. After the baseline measurement, the students were randomly allocated into intervention and control groups. Two educational sessions were held for the intervention group. At the end of the sessions, educational booklets were distributed among the students. The educational strategies included giving lectures, and practicing physical exercises. After two weeks, the participants completed the questionnaires again. The educational classes were held for the control group after the last measurements.
Results: Data analysis showed that the mean of knowledge score and the participants&apos practice were significantly different between two groups after the intervention (P<0.001).
Conclusion: Regarding the effect of education on enhancing students&apos awareness and practice about osteoporosis prevention, designing educational programs could be beneficial.

Abstract
Background & Aim: Surgery is a stressful experience. Fear of postoperative pain causes anxiety. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of patient education about pain control on patients&apos anxiety before abdominal surgery.
Methods & Materials: In this quasi-experimental study, 89 patients who were planned to undergo elective abdominal surgery in an educational hospital were recruited to the study. Informed consents were obtained. The participants were randomly allocated in two control (n=45) and experimental (n=44) groups. The questionnaire included demographic information, clinical characteristics, and the Spielberger&aposs State Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI). Patients in the experimental group received education about pain control one day before surgery. The education method was oral explanation for 20-30 minutes. The control group received no intervention. Data were analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics (chi-square, t-test, Fisher&aposs exact test, Wilcoxon signed ranks and Mann-whitney&aposs tests) in the SPSS.
Results: Findings indicated that there was a significant difference in anxiety level between the experiment and control groups before surgery (P<0.001). There was also a significant difference between anxiety level in the surgery day (P<0.001) between the two study groups. The anxiety level was significantly decreased in the experiment group.
Conclusion: Based on our findings, patient education about pain control led to reduce preoperative anxiety in patients undergoing abdominal surgery. Patient education is a non-medical simple intervention that is recommended for using in surgery wards.

Abstract
Background & Objective: Prenatal period is a unique opportunity to assist the women to adopt healthy behaviors. The nutritional behaviors of pregnant women affect not only their own health but also the fetal growth and development. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of nutrition education on nutritional behaviors in pregnant women.
Methods & Materials: In this randomized trial, 272 primigravida women were recruited using stratified cluster sampling method from eight family health clinics in Semnan. The participants were allocated in two groups randomly. The intervention group received the nutrition education through two 90-minute sessions with one week interval. Data were gathered using a questionnaire including demographic characteristics and nutritional behaviors at baseline and six weeks after the education. Data were analyzed in the SPSS.
Results: The results showed that there was not any significant difference in the mean score of the nutritional behaviors between two groups before the intervention. Significant difference was found between two groups after the intervention. The mean score in the intervention group was higher than in the control group (P<0.001).
Conclusion: The results of the study showed that nutrition education affected the nutritional behaviors in pregnant women. Therefore, the nutrition education should be integrated in educational topics provided for pregnant women.

Abstract
Background & Aim: Micronutrients deficiency is one of the most common health problems among adolescents. Theory based educational interventions which address learners&apos preferences are among the solutions for the matter in hand. The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the Transtheoretical model (TTM) based educational package on vitamin intake in female adolescents in Tehran.
Methods & Materials: A randomized community trial was applied. Study samples were consisted of 80 female students from two middle schools of Tehran, district 17th. They were selected using a cluster-random sampling method and were randomly assigned to the intervention (n=40) and control groups (n=40). The intervention group received a TTM-based educational package. Changes in vitamin intake were assessed using standard food frequency & 24-recall questionnaires.
Results: Based on pre-test results, intake of vitamin B2, B6, B9, B12, and C were lower than Dietary Reference Intake (DRI) in both groups. Based on the post-test data, a significant increase occurred in the mean score of vitamin intake in the intervention group comparing with the control group and also with the intervention group at pretest (P<0.05).
Conclusion: TTM-based educational package could be effective in improving vitamin intake in urban female adolescents.

Abstract
Background & Objective: Regular and adequate physical activity is a major factor in maintaining good health throughout entire life course. Levels of inactivity are high in all countries. Effective educational interventions are needed to promote physical activity in all populations. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of a heath education intervention on physical activity knowledge, attitude, and behavior in health volunteers of Tehran in 2008.
Methods & Materials: All active female health volunteers of Tehran, district 14 (n=100) were recruited for this experimental study. Data were gathered using a questionnaire of knowledge, attitude, and behavior regarding physical activity. The questionnaire was completed by all participants in two phases of pre- and post-intervention (four weeks after the intervention). Health education intervention strategies were presented to the intervention group during three educational sessions with one week interval between the sessions. Data were analyzed using related statistical tests.
Results: Findings showed significant statistical differences in knowledge, total physical activity rate per week, and the mean sitting time per day between the control and intervention groups after the intervention (P<0.05). While, these variables were not significantly different before the educational intervention among both groups.
Conclusion: The health education intervention presented in this study was effective in promoting knowledge, total physical activity rate per week, and mean sitting time per day among the female health volunteers.

Abstract
Background & Aim: Diet adherence is a major issue in cardiovascular diseases control. Patient education could be a valuable strategy for promoting diet adherence. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of computer-assisted vs. face to face education on dietary adherence among patients with myocardial infarction.
Methods & Materials: In this experimental study, 117 patients with the first acute myocardial infarction were selected via a convenience sampling. The participants were randomly allocated into three groups. Patients in the face to face group (n=43) received an education about diet in two two-day sessions. The computer-assisted education group (n=33) received the same educational plan provided by computer software containing audio, text, images and animations at home. The control group (n=41) received their usual care. Adherence to dietary regimen was assessed three months after the educations.
Results: There were not significant association between the three groups in terms of demographic characteristics and disease history. There were no significant different in unhealthy diet adherence between the three groups. There were not significant differences in healthy diet between the computer-assisted and face to face education groups. The computer-assisted education group had significantly better adherence with the consumed amount of fats (P=0.01), useful meat substitutes (P=0.01), and other foods (P=0.012) than the control group. In addition, the face to face education group had significantly greater adherence scores with consuming meat substitutes (P=0.04), and fats (P=0.04) than the control group.
Conclusion: Both computer-assisted and face to face educational strategies had positive effects on improving adherence following myocardial infarction.
