Introduction: Diabetes is a type of metabolic disorder that is caused by hyperglycemia following violations in insulin secretion, resistance to its action, or both. Therefore, the present study aimed to study the histopathological changes and liver enzymes in type 2 diabetic rats after receiving licorice extract and selected swimming training. Materials and methods: The research sample was 55 8-week-old male rats (200 ± 20 grams). To investigate the induction of diabetes, streptozotocin injection was used and the animals were randomly divided into 5 groups: diabetic control, swimming training, licorice extract, swimming training + licorice, and healthy control group. The training program was 8 weeks of selected swimming. Licorice extract was fed to two groups of diabetic rats. After the end of the research project, histopathological changes and enzymes (ALT, AST, ALP) were measured and analyzed using a two-way analysis of variance. Results: The results showed that swimming training, consumption of licorice extract, and swimming training with consumption of licorice extract caused a significant decrease in the enzymes (AST) and (ALP). However, there was no significant effect on the enzyme alanine (ALT) (p<0.05). In addition, the supplemented groups showed a lower percentage of fibrosis compared to the diabetic control rats. Discussion and conclusion: This study provides evidence that swimming exercise and consumption of licorice extract, both individually and together, can improve parameters. reduce and improve the liver and pathology related to diabetes in rats.
