Abstract
Background: The role of nucleus tractus solitarius in cardiovascular system regulation is controversial. On the other hand, study on the problem of hypertension in diabetic animals is the subject of many research programs. The aim of the present study was to determine wheather inactivation of nucleus can affect blood pressure in diabetic rats.
Methods: To this end , stereptosotocin-induced diabetic rats were anesthetized with Urethane and a cannula was inserted above nucleus. Blood pressure and heart rate were monitored using an intraarterial cannula. The cannulas were filled with L-glutamate (78 pmol/60 nL, to functionally identify the NTS see below), L-NAME(1nmol, to inhibit the nitric oxidergic neurons) and sodium nitroprusside (100mmol,as a NO-donor) .
Results: The results indicated that inactivation of nucleus in diabetic rats, had no effect on systolic and mean arterial pressure but enhanced diastolic blood pressure (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in heart rate between control and test groups.
Conclusion: Glucose affect on increasing blood pressure in rats with induced diabetes, in part, is caused by nitric oxidergic neurons resided in neucleus tractus solitarius.

Abstract
Background: Uncoupling protein-2 (UCP2), one of the mitochondrial transporter memborane protiens, is suggested as a contributor gene for obesity. A common G/A polymorphism in the UCP2 promoter region is associated with obesity and diabetes.
Methods: As a cross-sectional study, 75 healthy 25-64 years volunteers were randomly selected from Tehran University of Medical Sciences population Lab. DNA was exracted from blood samples then polymorphism and A & G Allel frequencies were determined via PCR and RFLP. The correlation between genotype and such clinical and biochemical parameters as BMI, serum cholesterol and TG was investigated. Results were compared with other similar surveys.
Results: The frequencies of the UCP2 -866G/A genotypes in 75 Iranian normal population were AA: 7 (9.4%), GA: 41 (54.6%), and GG: 27 (36%).
Conclusion: Significantly higher HDL cholesterol was detected in people with GG allele (P=0.02) as compared with GA and AA alleles. 866 UCP2 G/A genotype frequencies in our study were significantly different as compared with Japanese population but no with European studies that may emphasize on genetical similarity between Iranian and European Caucasians populations.

Abstract
Background: Peroxisome Proliferators- Activated Receptor-Gamma2 (PPAR- γ2) is a nuclear receptor that regulates adipocyte differentiation, lipid metabolism and insulin sensitivity. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association of the Pro12Ala polymorphism at the PPAR- γ2 gene in Iranian population with obesity.
Methods: The genomic DNAs of the 156 subjects including obese and healthy isolated from EDTA whole blood. Pro12Ala polymorphism detected by Polymerase Chain Reaction – Restriction Fragment Length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP).
Results: In the obese group , one sample (1.3%) was as homozygote Ala/Ala genotype , 24 samples (30.8%) were Pro/Ala heterozygote and 53 samples (67.9%)as Pro/Pro genotype were identified . in the control group , one sample (1.3%) was as Ala/Ala genotype , 12 samples (15.4%) were Pro/Ala genotype and 65 samples (83.3%) were Pro/Pro genotype. allele frequencies of Ala in obese subjects (qAla=%16.7)were significantly different from those in control subjects (qAla=%8.9).
Conclusion: Our results revealed that Pro12Ala polymorphism in PPAR- γ2 gene associated with obesity in the Iranian population and presence Ala allele cause to significantly higher BMI and lower fasting blood sugar.

Abstract
Background: Pancreatic islet transplantation has been reported as an appropriate method for treatment of type I diabetes patients, however there are strong indications that cytokine and chemokines secreted from transplanted islets play an important role in islet graft rejection in different stage post-transplantation. The NF-kB signaling pathway is activated in response to the stress resulted from isolation and purification process of pancreatic islets. Secretion and release of inflammatory mediators, including MCP-1, result from activation of this pathway which plays important part in activation of inflammatory processes accelerating graft rejection.
Methods: This study was performed to examine the effect of curcumin on secretion of inflammatory mediators and function of pancreatic islets.
Results: We observed that curcumin significantly decreased MCP-1 release from mouse islets compared to the control group and had no effect on function of pancreatic islets.
Conclusion: Investigating the stimulatory signals leading to production and secretion of inflammatory mediators from pancreatic islets and discovering their underlying mechanisms will be useful in finding new therapeutic interventions for blocking inflammatory pathways and improvement in outcome of islet cell transplantation.

Abstract
Background: Single nucleotide polymorphisms of Adiponectin gene have been associated with BMI, insulin sensitivity and type 2 diabetes, reportedly. In present study we performed a genetic association study for Adiponectin gene at position +45*T/G in type 2 diabetes and normal subjects of Tehran population.
Methods: Diabetic patients were selected from diabetes clinic and normal healthy control subjects aged between 25-64 years selected from zone 17 of Tehran. Adiponectin gene polymorphism was analyzed using PCR-RFLP method in normal healthy controls (N=70), obese diabetic patients (N=80) and non-obese diabetic patients (N=72).
Results: Frequency of TT genotype was 62.5% in non-obese diabetic patients and 78% in control group, that was statistically significant (TT vs TG+GG: P=0.02, OR=2.2, CI:0.98-5.00). There was also a significant difference for allele T and G frequencies when we compared between non-obese diabetic patients and controls group. The frequency of allele G was increased in non-obese diabetic (20.1%) patients compared to controls (12%) (P: 0.04 OR: 1.8 CI: 0.9-3.7).
Conclusion: This study showed TG and GG alleles of Adiponectin gene polymorphism at position +45*T/G are risk factors for development of diabetes mellitus while this effect is independent from BMI and obesity.

Abstract
Background: Cognitive and emotional deficits in alexithymia lead to various problems in somatic
disorders and other medical conditions for example Diabetics. The aim of this study was to examine
the effect of alexithymia on relationship between self-care and control of blood sugar in type 2
diabetes patients within the Iranian social and cultural context.
Methods: The present study was a cross-sectional investigation. The study sample consisted of 100
(60 females and 40 males, aged 40 to 70 years) type 2 diabetic outpatients visiting Labbafinejad
hospital during the year 2012. Measures for data collection included demographic, anthropometric
and clinical questionnaires, the short scale for diabetes self-care activities and the diabetes-related
quality of life. Blood tests were performed to obtain HbA1c levels and other laboratory measures
related to the study. Data were analyzed using SPSS16 software.
Results: Pearson product correlation results yielded significant negative associations between self-
care activities and alexithymia as well as HbA1c levels in type 2 diabetes patients. Results of
hierarchical regression analyses indicated that diabetes-related self-care activities explained 40% of
HbA1c variance and alexithymia added explanatory variance above and beyond self-care, to jointly
explain 58% of HbA1c variance.
Conclusion: Based on the present findings, diabetes-related self-care and alexithymia predicted
HbA1c levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. Given the evidence on the additive validity of
alexithymia in the prediction of HbA1c levels found in the present study, attention to emotional
competencies and disorders of Iranian diabetic patients may effectively contribute to their control of
diabetes.

Abstract
Background: The role of obesity and overweightness in emerging and enduring of serious medical and psychological disorders on one hand and the effect of psychological factors in obesity on the other hand, has made the surveys about psychological role in obesity of great importance. The aim of the present study was to compare the attachment styles and parenting styles of obese and non-obese adults. Methods: 144 individuals (72 obese patients: 48 females and 24 males) and (72 non-obese: 48 females and 24 males) participated in this study. Participants were asked to complete the Adult Attachment Inventory (AAI) and the Parental Authority Questionnaire (PAQ). Results: There was a negative relationship between secure attachment and Body Mass Index (BMI) of the obese patients, but no statistically significant relationship between insecure attachment styles (avoidant and ambivalent) was found. There was also a statistically significant relationship between the mean scores of secure and ambivalent attachment styles with BMI. Regarding the parenting styles and BMI, there was a statistically significant relationship between authoritative parenting style of the father and BMI, but no relation between authoritarian and permissive parenting styles was confirmed. Conclusion: Regarding the role of attachment styles and parenting styles of obese and non-obese adults, we can improve the physical and psychological public health of patients by changing the prevention and treatment protocols for the patients.

Abstract
Background: One of the important goals in control diabetes to maintain normal levels of glycated hemoglobin, but different social and psychological factors such as social support and alexithymia play role on process of this control. The purpose of present study was to examine the role of alexithymia on the association of social support and glycated hemoglobin in patients with type 2 diabetes. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study. The study sample consisted of 100 (60% females, 40-60 years) type 2 diabetic out-patients visiting the Labbafinejad hospital in 2013. The sample of the present study was a convenience sample. Measures of data collection included demographic and anthropometric questionnaires, Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, Toronto Alexithymia Scale and test of glycated hemoglobin. The collected data were analyzed, using multiple regression analysis. Results: Pearson's correlation coefficients showed a significant association between better reported perceived social support and lower alexithymia and glycated hemoglobin. Results of hierarchical linear regression analyses indicated that social support explained 23% and alexithymia 31% of glycated hemoglobin variance. As well as, alexithymia moderated association between perceived social support and glycated hemoglobin in patient with type 2 diabetes. Conclusion: Based on the present data, alexithymia has moderate role on the association between perceived social support and glycated hemoglobin in patient with type 2 diabetes. The results of this study highlight effective psychological factors in glycated hemoglobin which can help in the conceptualization, planning and design of treatment policies for control and treatment of type 2 diabetes.

Abstract
Background: Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus are more prone to depression. Prevalence of depression in the Iranian results of studies is different. Therefore, the present study aims to study the prevalence of depression in Iranian patients with type II diabetes mellitus.
Methods: This study is a systematic review based on PRISMA guideline for systematic reviews and meta-analyses study. Literature searches of, Scopus, MEDLINE, PubMed, Science Direct, Cochrane, EMBASE, Web of Science, Springer, Online Library Wiley, Google Scholar search engine and Iranians database for publications in Persian and English were conducted up to December 2015. Searches were performed by two researchers independently using standard keywords. Reviewers extracted data and assessed methodological quality in duplicate. Meta-analysis was performed using STATA, version 11.1 to combine data through Random Effects Model.
Results: Sixteen studies and 3,284 subjects with a mean age of 48.6 years were included in the analysis. The prevalence of depression in Iranian patients with type II diabetes was estimated 54.8% (95% CI: 43.5- 66.1). This range for males and females were calculated 32.2 %( 95% CI: 16.3-48.1) and 60% (95% CI: 46.4-73.7), respectively. The highest prevalence of depression was in the center of Iran (60%) and the lowest rate was in the west of Iran (38%).
Conclusion: Regarding to high prevalence of depression in patients with type II diabetes, Implementation of screening program for psychiatric disorders, especially depression as well as conducted psychiatric consultation routinely for diagnosis and treatment of depression in these patients it seems necessary.

Abstract
Background: In recent years, waist and hip circumference measurements simultaneously used as anthropometric factors to determine the prevalence of overweight and obesity in adults, in addition to Body Mass Index. Some studies have confirmed the relationship between the above mentioned factors and the hematological parameters of cardiometabolic disorders. This study aimed to determine the association between anthropometric factors and hematological factors in 25-60 years old couples of Babol, Mazandaran.
Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in spring 2014, on research population of 25-60 year old couples who were selected by random cluster. Data collected through a researcher-made questionnaire containing about demographic variables, underlying factors, dependent variables; its validity and reliability were confirmed. The collected data were analyzed by SPSS18 software.
Results: Men’s BMI had significant direct relationship with systolic and diastolic blood pressure, fasting blood sugar, cholesterol and triglycerides (p<0.05). Women’s BMI had a significant direct relations with systole and diastole blood pressure, fasting blood sugar and triglycerides (p<0.05). There was a significant direct relationship between men’s and women’s Waist/Hip Ratio (WHR) with systole and diastole blood pressure, fasting blood sugar, cholesterol and triglycerides (p<0.05). There was a significant direct relationship between men’s and women’s anthropometric indices (apart from the BMI) associated with serum biomarkers of cardiometabolic disorders (p<0.05).
Conclusion: The results showed that increased BMI and WHR in couples, increases the amount of cardiometabolic serum biomarkers and may directly and indirectly cause the risk of chronic diseases.

Abstract
Abstract: The purpose of the present study was the investigation of the published articles in sport and Persian peer- reviewed journals in the field of exercise metabolism during 2011 to 2015 years.
Methods: In this regard, 9 out of 27 published journals on sport sciences were selected and were extracted by referring to the related websites, Jahad Daneshgahi and the country Information Database for Articles. 766 articles were investigated during the process.
Results: According to measured indicators, 223 articles were placed in the field of exercise metabolism. The Most articles have been published in the Journal of Metabolism and Exercise. 53.57% of the published articles in this journal were in the field of exercise metabolism. The average number of authors for each paper was 3.28. State Universities’ share in the production of the articles was 78% alone and 17% in partnership with Azad University. The Most independent variables used in the studies, were aerobic training (endurance) which 29.09% of all variables used in the study were included. From of 223 investigated papers 89 papers have been investigated the responses to exercise and 134 papers have been investigated the adaptation to exercise Training. The most of the study subjects were students and mice, with 16.5 and 16.14%, respectively. The number of the study subjects used in each article was 23.62 people on average. Almost 60% of the articles did not investigate on any performance or physical indicators. Among the measured metabolic markers, the oxidant and antioxidant markers was in the first place (16.69%).
Conclusion: Regarding the above-mentioned results, coordination, prioritization and policy making in the field of exercise metabolic researches seems necessary.

Abstract
Background: Although a positive association between type 2 diabetes and breast cancer has been reported, an association with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is less clear. This study aimed to assess the relationship between the history of GDM and the incidence of BC a long term population based study.
Methods: To conduct this research, 4076 women aged 20-50 years who participated in the first phase of Tehran-Lipid-and-Glucose-Study, who had at-least one pregnancy were included. Each participants were asked about the history of GDM every 3 years. They was evaluated about the occurrence of breast cancer (BC). Cox-survival analysis was used to measure the Hazard-ratio (HR) for both groups with and without history of GDM
Results: The study population included 886 women with prior GDM and 3,909 women without history of GDM. The median duration of follow-up among women with and without the history of GDM were 12.12 and 11.62 years, respectively. The incidence of BC was 0.64 per 1,000 year-olds with confidence=interval of 95% (0.44-0.91). Among them, 4 cases were reported in women with GDM and 26 cases in women without GDM. (Incidence of 0.36 per 1000 person-years with confidence=interval 95% (0.11-0.99) in women with prior GDM and 0.73 per 1,000 person-years with confidence=interval 95% (0.49-1.1) in women without a history of GDM.
Conclusion: Our study showed that the history of GDM is not an independent risk factor for breast cancer.

Abstract
Background: Type 1 diabetes is characterized by persistent hyperglycemia and leads to impaired protein synthesis and ultimately muscle breakdown and reduction in muscle function. Therefore, this research was conducted with the aim of investigating the effect of moderate intensity continuous training (MICT) on the amount of 4EBP1 in the biceps muscle of type 1 diabetic rats.
Methods: The present study is of experimental-fundamental type in which 12 2-month-old male Sprague Dawley rats with an average weight of 280±30 grams participated. To induce type 1 diabetes, streptozotocin (STZ) solution was injected intraperitoneally at a dose of 65 mg/kg. 3 days after injection, blood sugar above 300 mg/dl was considered as an indicator of type 1 diabetes. After the induction of diabetes, the rats were randomly divided into 2 diabetic training groups (6 heads) and diabetic control groups (6 heads). The continuous training program (32 minutes with an intensity of 50-70% of maximum speed) was 8 weeks and 3 sessions every week. Data analysis was done through independent t-tests. Data analysis was done using GraphPad Prism software version 10.2.2. The significance level of the present study was considered P≤0.05.
Results: In the training group after 8 weeks of MICT, the intracellular content of phosphorylated (P=0.0001), total (P=0.0001) and the ratio of phosphorylated to total (P=0.002) protein 4EBP1 showed a significant change compared to the control group in the twin muscle tissue.
Conclusion: 4EBP1 protein seems to increase through 8 weeks of MICT and this mechanism can increase muscle synthesis in muscle tissue.
