Abstract

Background: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is one the most common chronic disease, with many complications including renal failure, blindness and non traumatic amputation. Prevention of complications is possible through monitoring and control of blood glucose levels. Considering how easy home blood glucose monitoring is, we decided to evaluate the performance of two available glucometers for detection of blood glucose compared with standard laboratory methods. Methods: In this study, 369 patients with diabetes who admitted to the Shahid Beheshti hospital laboratory in 2013 selected by simple way. After fasting blood glucose testing at the laboratory by lancet devices for ONCALL and GLUCOCARD Glucometers, capillary blood was taken, and glucose measurements were performed by a special strips. Finally, we compared of capillary blood glucose levels of 369 patients as determined by test strips (Glucometers) with venous blood glucose levels measurements by the enzymatic method (the standard laboratory kit), and the results was evaluated by statistical tests such as the mean ± standard deviation, and Pearson correlation. Results: The mean blood glucose measurements reported using the Glucocard glucometer, the ONCALL glucometer and the standard laboratory method were 127.0±51.6mg/dl, 117.9±42.1 mg/dL and 118.09±51.9 mg/dL. Results obtained using the ONCALL Glucometer had no differences with the standard method levels)p=0.901(, but obtained results from GLUCOCARD Glucometers had differences with the standard method levels(p≤0.001). Conclusion: Diversity glucometer devices used in various parts of the country highlight the need for similar studies. We recommend use the ONCALL Glucometer with standard principles for glucose monitoring routine.

Abstract

Background: The prevalence of non-communicable disorders such as metabolic syndrome (MetS) is high in developing countries. Metabolic syndrome is a disorder of energy utilization and storage, diagnosed by a co-occurrence of three out of five of the following medical conditions: abdominal (central) obesity, elevated blood pressure, elevated fasting plasma glucose, high serum triglycerides, and low high-density cholesterol (HDL) levels. The present review aims to discover the genetic variant reported in association with MetS. Methods: The database for genotypes and phenotypes (dbGaP) and the database for genetic associations and human genome (HuGE navigator) were utilized in order to search for genes and their corresponding polymorphisms related to MetS. Additionally, an electronic literature search for other Iranian studies and the genetic aspect of TLGS was completed using PubMed. Results: For phenotype selection in PheGenI, 30 traits were chosen and after the analysis, 21 of them were in common results with MetS. After finding the common variation between traits and MetS, omitting the repeated SNPs, 173 variations were remained. Finally, results distinguished six of the most important genetic regions found to have strong association with MetS. Conclusion: Identifying major genes that are responsible for the metabolic syndrome may improve the medical care for treating individuals with metabolic syndrome, and eventually may lead to personalized medicine in which treatment is tailored genetically to the patient’s needs. The present candidate regions is a respectable start to replicate genetic studies in large affected Iranian individual which we hope leads us to improve our medical care in this field.

Abstract

Background: Visfatin is an adipokine secreted from visceral adipose tissue and involved in glucose homeostasis. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of eight-week resistance training on plasma visfatin levels and its relation to insulin resistance in insulin-resistant male rats.

Methods: In this experimental study twenty-four Wistar male rats­ (220±20 gr) were acclimatized with lab condition then were randomly divided into three groups: Control (C), Insulin-Resistant control (IRC) and Insulin-resistant Training (T) groups. Insulin-resistance status induced by %10 fructose solution during 5 weeks. Resistance training group subjected to a three-day per week resistance training program for 8 weeks. Plasma visfatin, insulin, glucose levels, and insulin resistance index were assessed 48 hours after experimental period. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and statistical significance was set at P<0/05

Results: The results showed that insulin resistance induction significantly increased plasma visfatin, glucose, insulin levels and insulin resistance index (P<0.05). On the other hand, resistance training significantly decreased plasma visfatin, glucose, and insulin levels (P<0.05) but visfatin was not altered significantly (P<0.05).

Conclusion: Based on the findings, visfatin increases in diabetes and insulin resistance and is correlated with insulin resistance. The change in plasma visfatin levels was not significant following resistance training and it was not correlated with insulin resistance index. Therefore, visfatin may not have a role in metabolic improvement induced by exercise training.

Abstract

Background: The purpose of this study was the investigation effect of gender on plasma glucose, insulin and insulin resistance index in response to acute endurance activity and subsequent recovery periods in healthy individuals.

Methods: Eight females and seven males 20-30 years old (females 22.37±1.50 and men 23.42±1.27 years old, female weight 55.50±8.14 men and 79.85±15.16 kg, women height 160.12 ± 4.18 men and 179.71±6.57 cm) voluntarily participated in this study. Subjects performed two control activities during two consecutive weeks. The implementation of the sessions was randomly determined for each subject. Exercise program consisted of 45 min acute endurance at 75% of maximum heart rate on the treadmill and subsequently the subject was in a sitting position for one clock recovery. Four blood samples (6 ml) before and immediately after exercise, as well as 1 and 24 hours after the activity was collected. Two-way analysis of variance for data analysis was used.

Results: Regardless of gender, effects of activity and recovery on plasma insulin and insulin resistance index was significant (p <0.05) but not significant for glucose. Also when the data were corrected by changes in plasma volume, similar results were observed for insulin. Although changes of all factors (glucose, insulin, and insulin resistance) in response to activity session of acute exercise endurance was higher in men than in woman, gender has not significant effect on factors.

Conclusion: acute endurance activity and recovery induce change in insulin resistance index but these changes were not related to gender.

Abstract

Background: In recent years, dietary supplements play an important role in maintaining a healthy diet in most chronic diseases such as diabetes. Spirulina platensis as a food supplement has been raised and regulator effects on cholesterol and antioxidant and immune regulating effects of this supplement are also considered. It contains vitamin B, beta-carotene, vitamin E, high value proteins, minerals, gamma linolenic acid and antioxidants.
Methods: In this study 50 patients with type II diabetes were randomly selected and after taking patient's history they were divided into two equal groups including control. 8 grams of spirulina that was prepared in tablet (each 1 gram) form was administered daily to patient group for three months. Fasting blood sugar levels monthly and hemoglobin A1C levels at the beginning and end of the projects were measured in both groups and their results were compared with each other.
Results: Fasting plasma glucose in patient group after 3 months of treatment with spirulina powder gave a significant reduction from the 158.1± 44.2 mg/dl at the beginning of study to 127.8 ± 36.7 mg/dl but was not significant in the control group. Glycosylated hemoglobin in the both groups decreased but this decrease was not statistically significant.
Conclusion: Spirulina platensis as a supplement can be administered in type II diabetic patients that used oral anti-diabetic drugs. It is effective in reducing fasting blood glucose in the short term but its effect on hemoglobin A1C need to prescribe longer.

Abstract

Background: The higher dietary acid load may affect blood pressure, blood sugar levels, and insulin levels. The purpose of this systematic review study is to examine the relation of dietary acid load with blood pressure and blood glucose.
Methods: We searched in PubMed, Google Scholar, Scopus and Medline up to July 2016, using the keywords "dietary acid load", "serum glucose", "insulin resistance" and "hypertension ". 12 studies (6 cross-sections, 5 cohorts and 1 intervention) were included in this systematic review.
Results: Out of eleven articles related to blood pressure, three studies showed a significant relationship between dietary acid load scale and hypertension. Three studies found only a significant association between dietary acid load and systolic blood pressure, while other studies did not show any significant correlation between dietary acid load and systolic or diastolic blood pressure. Moreover, in relation to blood glucose control, among eight studies, one study demonstrated a significant relationship between increasing dietary acid load and the incidence of diabetes. One study reported a significant relation of dietary acid load with fasting blood glucose and glycosylated hemoglobin concentration. In addition, two studies indicated a significant correlation between increased dietary acid load and insulin resistance, but other studies not revealed a meaningful relationship.
Conclusion: Since most studies suggest a significant association between increased dietary acid load and higher blood pressure, therefore it seems which dietary acid load can effect on blood pressure. The results of the investigation of the relationship between dietary acid load with glucose, insulin levels or diabetes have many contradictions. According to limited studies in this field, there is a need to further trial or prospective studies regarding the dietary acid load and the incidence of diabetes, insulin levels, and other blood glucose markers.

Abstract

Background: Gestational diabetes in on of common complications of pregnancy which has different complications for fetus and mother. Aim of present study was to review the effect of six weeks aqua training in second trimester of pregnancy on visfatin and glucose tolerance of gestational diabetic women.
Methods: In this semi experimental research 24 gestational diabetic mothers who recourse to hafez clinic of shiraz city which were in 23- 24 week of pregnancy select as sample and divided in two groups of 12 persons of aqua training and control. Aqua training group trained aqua trainings 6 weeks, 3 sessions per week and 45 minutes per session. In this period of the time control group has just their daily activities. For measure the research variables fasting blood sample gathered from antecubital vein in pretest and post test.
Results: Six weeks aqua training in second trimester of pregnancy has significant effect on increase of visfatin and decrease of glucose tolerance of gestational diabetic women (p=0.001).
Conclusion: It seems that for improvement of visfatin levels and glucose tolerance of gestational diabetic women can use six weeks aqua training in second trimester of pregnancy.

Abstract

Background: There are many research have been done so far about the effect of exercise training on diabetic type 2 related risk factors. But in this regard there is no study performed in Iran. So, the aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of endurance exercise training on some diabetic type 2 dependent variables in the form of systematic review and meta-analysis of studies that were performed in Iran.
Methods: In this research PubMed, Embase, Cochran, Scopus, ISI, Google Scholar, Science direct, Sid and Magiran databases were searched for Persian sources. Data analysis were done using STATA software version 12.0.
Results: Generally, 242 articles were founded in primary search, which 24 articles were included in this research. Finally research were evaluated 592 Iranian's peoples which 294 peoples as a control group (96 male and 198 women) and 298 peoples as a training group (97 male and 201 women).The results indicate that there were significant association between endurance exercise and blood glucose levels (P=0.0001,-1.016,-0.656;95%CI), insulin (P=0.0001,-1.042,-0.682;95%CI), insulin resistance (P=0.0001;-0.563,-0.217;95%CI).
Conclusion: Generally, this systematic review and meta-analysis study was demonstrated endurance exercise could be related with decrease diabetes type 2 related risk factors. So, it is recommended that sport and medicine experts use endurance exercise as a non- pharmacological intervention for treatment of diabetes type 2 patients.

Abstract

Background: Due to the progress of diabetes and the use of alternative herbal medicines, In this study, the effects of oral administration of the mucilage extracted from pods of Abelmoschus esculentus (Ae) fruits on serum levels of glucose, lipids and morphology of Langerhans islets in diabetic rats was investigated.
Methods: In this experimental study, 24 female wistar rats were randomly allocated into four groups (n=6): normal control (NC), diabetic control (DC) and 2 diabetic groups that received (oral) 300 and 500 mg/kg/body weight of Abelmoschus esculentus. After preparing and confirming the type of, mucilage extraction from the fruit’s green okra was done by evaporation device in vacuum. Diabetes mellitus was induced by single dose intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin 60mg/kg/body weight in diabetic groups. After 4 weeks, the serum levels of glucose and lipid profile of all groups were analyzed. Also morphology of Langerhans islets in the 4 groups was evaluated using H&E staining method. The data analyzed by SPSS software using ANOVA and Tukey tests.
Results: The results indicate a significant increase (P<0/05) in glucose, cholesterol, triglyceride, LDL and significant decrease (P<0.05) in HDL in diabetic rats compared to normal control. The use of the mucilage extracted from A. esculentus caused a significant decrease in serum levels of glucose, cholesterol, triglyceride, LDL and significant increase in serum level of HDL comparison with diabetic group.
Conclusion: according to the results of this study, the mucilage extracted from A. esculentus could be effective on control hyperlipidemia and hyperglycemia caused by diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Background: Patients with diabetes need to be educated efficiently and effectively in order to increase their quality of life. According to modern technological developments, multimedia message-based education is considered as one of the effective educational strategies. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of multimedia-based education in the Telegram application and in-person method on fasting blood glucose and glycosylated hemoglobin levels in patients with insulin-dependent diabetes.
Methods: In this clinical trial study, a sample of 66 patients with insulin-dependent diabetes who referred to the emergency department and the clinic of Sina hospital in Tabriz, were randomly assigned in double blocks into two groups: in-person education and multimedia-based education. Data gathering tools included a demographic form, glycosylated hemoglobin and fasting blood glucose were measured before and three months after the educational intervention. Data were analyzed with independent and paired samples t-tests.
Results: The results indicated that there were no significant differences in the mean values of glycosylated hemoglobin and fasting blood glucose between two groups before and after education(P >0.05). In within-group comparison, there was a statistically significant difference in the multimedia message group on the reduction of mean values of glycosylated hemoglobin (p= 0.02) but these values differences were not significant in in-person group (p= 0.33).
Conclusion: Multimedia-based education in the Telegram application compared to in-person education improves self-care and reduces the mean values of glycosylated hemoglobin in diabetic patients. This educational context can be used to facilitate the self-care education process to patients.

Abstract

Background: Increased expression of HDAC5 reduces the expression of GLUT4 in slow-twitch fibers, and this mechanism has not been studied in diabetes. Therefore, the purpose of study was to investigate the effect of six weeks endurance training on protein levels of GLUT4 and HDAC5 in soleus muscle in diabetic rats.
Methods: For this purpose, 32 male Wistar rats (weight: 245±9.4 g) were randomly divided into 4 groups: diabetic, diabetic and training, training, and control. At 8 weeks of age, diabetes was induced by streptozotocin. The endurance training was carried out five times per week for 6 weeks. 24 hours after the completion of the protocol, the mice were sacrificed and their soleus muscle was extracted. Then, the protein levels of GLUT4 and HDAC5 were measured using ELISA method. One-way ANOVA was used to analyze the data at a significant level of P<0.05.
Results: Results showed significant differences between control and training (P=0.008), training and diabetic training (P=0.004), and training and diabetic (P=0.0005) groups in GLUT4 levels. But, in HDAC5, results showed that there is not significant differences only between control and training groups (P=0.99), and there are significant differences among other groups (P<0.05). Also, there is a significant inverse relationship between the protein levels of GLUT4 and HDAC5 (P=0.012, r =-0.439).
Conclusion: It seems that six weeks moderate intensity endurance training increases protein levels of GLUT4. But endurance training only can decreases protein levels of HDAC5 in diabetes.

Abstract

Background: The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of eight weeks of resistance training with and without the use of aqueous extracts of barberry and saffron on serum levels of RBP4, glucose, insulin and insulin resistance in obese mice.
Methods: In this study, 80 mice with a mean weight of 41± 2 g were exposed to high fat diet for 10 weeks. Then, they were randomly assigned to 8 resistance training groups (10 n), resistance and saffron (10 n), saffron (10= n ), Resistance and barberry (n =10), barberry (n =10), saffron and barberry (10n =), resistance training with extract of saffron and barberry (10n =) and control group (n = 10). The resistance training program included raising the mice from the ladder with weight (three sets and 5 repetitions each) three times a week for 8 weeks. The consumption of saffron and barberry extracts was done at 0.08 for total weight of mice for 8 weeks. After 14 hours of fasting, the initial blood sample was taken at 5 ml of the left ventricle of the rats and RBP4, glucose, insulin and insulin resistance levels were measured. One-way analysis of variance was used to compare the data between groups. All calculations were considered at P≤0.05
Results: The results showed that there was a significant difference in the levels of RBP4 (P = 0.002), glucose (P = 0.03), insulin (P = 0.02), and insulin resistance (P= 0.004) There are different research groups.
Follow-up test results showed that RBP4 levels decreased in the resistance training group compared to the barberry and control groups. In saffron group, resistance to barberry and control group decreased. The saffron group also decreased compared to the saffron and barberry training groups.
Conclusion: The findings of this study emphasize the effect of resistance training, the use of saffron extract and barberry extract on reducing the metabolic effects of obesity by reducing RBP4 and reducing glucose, insulin and insulin resistance.

Abstract

Background: the present study aims at investigating the effect of Stress coping techniques and self-regulation strategies on the blood glucose level of diabetic patients.
Methods:  the research method was experimentally pretest – posttest with control group. this purpose, out of all those patients who had referred to the Diabetes Center of Bushehr City, 45 diabetic patients were selected randomly in two experiment groups (each with 15 patients) and one control group (with 15 patients) by purposeful sampling method with random replacement. The experimental groups were trained by the Stress coping techniques and self-regulation strategies in eight 90-minute sessions. In this study, the Accu-Chek Active Blood Glucose Meter was used to measure the blood glucose level. Data were analyzed by SPSS V.25. The follow-up phase was also carried out two months after the medical intervention.
Results: the training in two ways of stress coping and self-regulation strategies has reduced the level of blood glucose among the diabetic patients (P = 0.0001) of which the impact has remained been stable over the time (P < 0.05). There is also a significant difference in the effect of the Stress coping techniques and self-regulation strategies on the blood glucose level of diabetic patients (P < 0.05) such that training the Stress coping techniques has more impact on reduction of blood glucose level of diabetic patients.
Conclusion: results show that training the Stress coping techniques and self-regulation strategies can significantly reduce the blood glucose level of diabetic patients and treat the diabetes effectively.

Abstract

Background: TORC1 protein is an important factor in regulating adipose tissue metabolism. Type 2 diabetes can lead to dysfunction and the development of obesity. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of eight weeks of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and endurance on blood glucose and TORC1 protein content in subcutaneous adipose tissue of obese with type 2 diabetes rats.
Methods: In this study, 18 head 2 Sprague-Dawley male rats with a mean weight of 270±30 g were selected. After becoming type 1 diabetic through streptozotocin and Nicotine amide solution, they were randomly divided into 3 groups: 1) HIIT training 2) endurance training and 3) control (6 heads per group). Exercise groups exercised 4 days a week for 8 weeks according to HIIT and endurance training programs. SPSS software version 23, one-way ANOVA and Tukey post hoc test were used to analyze the data.
Result: Eight weeks of HIIT and endurance training resulted in a significant decrease in blood glucose level (p<0.0001) and a significant increase in TORC1 protein content (P<0.0001) compared to the control group.
Conclusion: HIIT and endurance training lowered blood glucose levels and increase TORC1 protein content, which this training can be a suitable and non-invasive treatment to control diabetes and also regulate adipose tissue metabolism in type 2 diabetics who are prone to obesity.

Abstract

Background: Glycation is the non-enzymatic reaction between the carbonyl groups in sugar and free amino groups in proteins. this reaction leads to changes in structure and functions of proteins. Advanced glycation end products (AGEs) is the final stage in this process, which is highly oxidizing and destructive nature, causing many diabetic complications.
Methods: In the present investigation, the effect of fasting upon the glycation process of human Carbonic anhydrase II under physiological conditions (37 °C and pH 7.4) was studied recruiting various techniques including Ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy and CD Spectroscopy. To address this question, different samples of control carbonic anhydrase (without glucose and 3-beta-hydroxybutyrate), carbonic anhydrase with glucose, carbonic anhydrase in the presence of only 3-beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) and carbonic anhydrase along with glucose and 3-beta-hydroxybutyrate were incubated for 35 days under physiological conditions.
Results: The results indicate that 3-beta-hydroxybutyrate, which is greatly increased in the body during fasting, functions as an inhibitor of the glycation process and decreases the impacts of glucose binding to the protein and prevents the formation of AGEs and preserve enzyme activity.
Conclusion: Fasting can play an important role in maintaining the health of the body and eliminating the complications of the disease, with a significant increase in the production of 3-beta-hydroxybutyrate as an inhibitor of the glycation process.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes is associated with hormonal and biochemical changes, and with the production of free radicals and oxidative stress, it plays an important role in the occurrence of many metabolic injuries. Garlic plant and kombucha mushroom play a major role in the prevention and treatment of complications caused by oxidative stress due to their antioxidant and anti-apoptotic properties.
Methods: 40 male Wistar rats, divided into five groups of eight, including: control (diabetic and receiving citrate buffer), Negative control group (diabetic, with 55 mg/kg of streptozotocin intraperitoneally), experimental group 1 (diabetic and receiving 50 mg/kg garlic extract), experimental group 2 (diabetic and receiving 50 mg/kg kombucha mushroom) and experimental group 3 (diabetic and receiving 50 mg/kg kombucha mushroom and 50 mg/kg of garlic extract) were divided. After two months passed after the mice became diabetic, the extracts were injected subcutaneously for two weeks. After that, the rats were anesthetized with ketamine and xylisine, and blood was taken directly from the heart.
Results: The Negative control group had higher glucose, triglyceride, cholesterol and LDL and lower insulin and HDL than the control group. The treatment groups of garlic, kombucha and garlic + kombucha caused a significant decrease in glucose, cholesterol, triglyceride and LDL levels and a significant increase in HDL and insulin compared to the Negative control group (p < 0.05). The highest therapeutic effect was shown by the garlic + kombuja group.
Conclusion: The combined extract of kombucha and garlic has favorable effects on sugar control and reducing cholesterol and Triglyceride.

Abstract

Osteoporosis is a metabolic bone disorder characterized by reduced bone mineral density and an increased risk of fractures. It has significant health impacts and is associated with socioeconomic consequences. Triglyceride-glucose indices [TyG, TyG-body mass index (BMI), TyG-waist circumference (WC), and TyG-waist to height ratio (WHTR)] are recognized as surrogate and cost-effective markers for assessing insulin resistance and can be effective in evaluating bone health and predicting the risk of osteoporosis and fractures. However, according to existing evidence, the relationship between these indices and bone health can be influenced by various factors such as gender, age, obesity, and metabolic disorders. There is also evidence of a nonlinear association between these indices and bone density, where their positive effect diminishes or reverses after reaching a certain threshold. These indices can serve as alternative and affordable markers for assessing bone health and early identification of individuals at risk of osteoporosis and bone fractures. Nonetheless, further longitudinal research is needed to confirm these findings across different populations and to determine the underlying mechanisms. Abstract

Blood glucose variability, defined as variations in blood glucose levels over time, is increasingly recognized as a significant factor in the pathology of diabetes complications. While chronic hyperglycemia has been linked to microvascular complications (retinopathy, nephropathy, and neuropathy) and macrovascular complications (coronary artery disease, stroke, and peripheral artery disease), emerging evidence suggests that glucose variability is an independent risk factor for these conditions. This review examined the relationship between blood glucose variability and the development of microvascular and macrovascular complications in diabetes, highlighting the underlying mechanisms, clinical implications, and therapeutic approaches.

Abstract

Background: Obesity is one of the causes of diabetes. On the other hand, exercise along with cinnamon supplementation has been recommended as an important approach for controlling and preventing obesity and its related complications, such as diabetes and insulin resistance. Therefore, the aim of the present study is to investigate the combined effect of exercise training and cinnamon supplementation on glycemic indices in individuals with obesity and type 2 diabetes.
Methods: A systematic search of English and Persian articles published in PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, Magiran, Google Scholar, NorMags, Irandoc, and SID databases was conducted up to January 2025. In data analysis, a random-effects model was used to calculate the weighted mean difference (WMD), standardized mean difference (SMD) and 95% confidence interval (CI). Also, heterogeneity of studies was assessed with the I² test.
Results: In total, 11 studies involving 230 participants with obesity and type 2 diabetes were meta-analyzed. The results indicated that the combination of exercise training and cinnamon supplementation significantly reduced glucose (WMD = -13.317 [95% CI: -19.599 to -7.034]; P = 0.001) and insulin resistance (WMD = -1.098 [95% CI: -1.577 to -0.618]; P = 0.001) compared to the control group in individuals with obesity and type 2 diabetes. However, insulin levels did not show a significant change (WMD = -2.123 [95% CI: -4.333 to 0.088]; P = 0.060).
Conclusion: The results of the present meta-analysis demonstrated that the combination of exercise training and cinnamon supplementation improves glucose and insulin resistance in individuals with obesity and type 2 diabetes. These beneficial effects are not accompanied by changes in insulin levels.

Abstract

Background: The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of high-intensity interval training on lipid profile, fasting blood glucose, body composition, and Vo2max in patients with type 2 diabetes or obesity.
Methods: The type of research conducted is a systematic meta-analysis review. A systematic search of published articles was conducted from PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, Sid, and Magiran databases up to January 2024. The mean difference and 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated using a random-effects model. Heterogeneity was assessed using the (I2) test and publication bias was assessed using visual analysis of funnel plots and Egger's test.
Results: The results showed that high-intensity interval training significantly reduced body fat percentage [standard mean difference (SMD)=-0.796, P=0/001], BMI (SMD=-0.378, P=0/001), WHR (SMD=-0.424, P=0/001), LDL (SMD=-0.694, P=0/001), TC (SMD=-0.495, P=0/001), TG (SMD=-0.317, P=0/001) and fasting blood glucose (SMD=-0.557, P=0/001) in patients group compared to the control group had a significantly higher VO2max. However, high-intensity interval training significantly increased Vo2max (WMD=-0.997, P=0/001), and HDL (WMD=-0.558, P=0/001) in patients group compared to the control group.
Conclusion: Based on the results obtained, high-intensity interval training can have a positive effect on metabolic indices, body composition, and aerobic capacity in patients with type 2 diabetes or obesity and improve the condition of these individuals. Therefore, it is suggested that in medical centers for diabetic and obese patients, under the supervision of sports and medical specialists, the beneficial effects of high-intensity interval training should be utilized and used as an auxiliary strategy for the treatment and improvement of these individuals.
