Abstract

Background: Diabetes is one of the most prevalent chronic illness that is closely associated with some psychological problems, particularly stress. In this case, psychological interventions can be useful. The aim of this study was to investigate effectiveness of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) on psychosocial adjustment to illness in patient with type 2 diabetes.
Methods: In this study, semi-experimental method (pre-posttest) with control group was used. Population of the study included patients with type 2 diabetes that were member of Iranian Diabetes Society of Tehran. For sampling, 60 patients with type 2 diabetes were considered and then divided in two groups based on random sampling method. Psychosocial Adjustment to Illness Scale was used.
Results: ANCOVA showed that MBSR significantly effect on psychosocial adjustment to illness. Additionally, the results showed that MBSR significantly effect on attitude towards the disease and the social environment (P<0.05).
Conclusion: Findings revealed that MBSR can be effective on increasing psychosocial adjustment to illness in patients with type 2 diabetes. These findings have been inferred that patients with type 2 diabetes need to increase their psychosocial adjustment to illness.

Abstract

Background: Type 2 diabete is a group of metabolic diseases whose common feature is elevated blood glucose levels due to defective insulin secretion, functional impairment, or both. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy on reducing the disturbed eating behaviors, psychological distress and body worthiness in patients with type 2 diabetes.
Methods: This is a quasi-experimental study that was performed on type 2 diabetic patients of Kermanshah. The samples were randomly divided into two experimental and control groups and Body Worthiness Scale, Disturbed Eating Behaviors Scale, DASS-21 Scale, and the Mindfulness Questionnaire were used. Patients in the experimental group received sessions of Mindfulness Based -Cognitive Therapy each week two months. While the control group did not receive an intervention during this period. After completing the intervention sessions, again, both groups were asked to complete the research tool. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics (covariance). The findings were analyzed using Spss24 software.
Results: The results showed is effective in eating behaviors, psychological distress and the body worthiness.
Conclusion: Mindfulness- Based Cognitive Therapy on can decrease eating behaviors, psychological distress and enhance the body worthiness in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Abstract

Background: People with diabetes face psychological challenges. Therefore, it is important to pay attention to cognitive therapies based on mindfulness in this field. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy on anxiety tolerance and cognitive flexibility in patients with type 2 diabetes.
Methods: The research method was quasi-experimental with pre-test-post-test design with a control group. The statistical population of the present study was all type 2 diabetic patients referred to the Maternal Diabetes Center, Touba Specialized and Sub-Specialized Clinic and Mostafavian Clinic in Sari in 2019-2020. Simple randomization was substituted in experimental (n = 15) and control (n = 15) groups. However, no intervention was performed on the control group during this period. The Simon and Gaher (2005) Emotional Distress Scale and the Doyce and Woodwall (2010) Scale were used to collect data. mean, standard deviation and multivariate analysis of covariance were used to analyze the research data.
Results: The results showed that the effect of Mindfulness-based cognitive therapywas on distress tolerance (F= 28.74, P<0.001) and on Cognitive flexibility (F= 31.57, P<0.001).
Conclusion: Considering the effectiveness of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy on anxiety tolerance and cognitive flexibility, it seems that this treatment can be used to reduce psychological problems in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Abstract

Background: The present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of Compassion-Focused Mindfulness Training on social isolation, sense of coherence, and body appreciation in overweight girls.
Methods: This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test/post-test control group. The statistical population consisted of overweight girls aged 14 to 18 in the city of Sari during the 2024-2025 academic year. A sample of 32 participants was selected via purposive sampling and then randomly assigned to either an experimental or a control group. The experimental group received Compassion-Focused Mindfulness Training, delivered in eight structured sessions, while the control group received no intervention. The Compassion-Focused Mindfulness protocol was developed and administered based on the therapeutic framework proposed by Sadeghi et al. (2021), the instruments used in this study included: the Body Appreciation Questionnaire by Mendelson et al. (2001), the Sense of Coherence Scale by Antonovsky (1987), the Social Isolation Questionnaire by Madrasi Yazdi et al. (2017), the collected data were analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Univariate and multivariate analysis of covariance (ANCOVA & MANCOVA) were performed using SPSS software, version 26.
Results: The results indicated that Compassion-Focused Mindfulness Training had a significant effect on self-worth, sense of coherence, and social isolation in overweight girls. Specifically, this training led to a reduction in social isolation and an improvement in self-worth and sense of coherence among the participants. (Wilks' Lambda = 0.151, F = 11.787, P< 0.001).
Conclusion: Compassion-Focused Mindfulness Training, by emphasizing the non-judgmental acceptance of experiences and fostering a meaning-centered approach, can play a vital role in enhancing psychological well-being, regulating emotions, and improving social interactions. Therefore, incorporating this effective intervention for vulnerable groups, particularly overweight girls, is crucial for designing supportive and therapeutic strategies and can significantly contribute to improving their quality of life.
