Abstract
Background and Objective: Based on its unique characteristics, oil industry wastewater must be treated before discharging into the environment. The study aimed to optimize the catalytic sonopraxone process in the treatment of petroleum wastewater using a statistical method.
Materials and Methods: The synthesis of Iron Oxide-Zinc Oxide was carried out by air oxidation and layer-by-layer self-assembly method. XRD, SEM, EDAX, FT-IR, BET, DRS, VSM and TGA techniques were used to investigate the structure. In this study, applied CCD method optimization of pH parameters, reaction time, ozone gas concentration, hydrogen peroxide concentration and catalyst amount in the process. In optimal conditions, BOD5 and TPH removal values, reaction kinetics and synergistic effect of mechanisms were studied. COD, TPH and BOD5 were measured by spectrophotometer (DR6000), GC-FID and incubator, respectively.
Results: The results indicated that the Fe3O4@ZnO structure is well formed. A quadratic model was proposed to model the process based on the correlation coefficient. Based on ANOVA analysis and p and f indices, the proposed model was reported to be significant. Optimum conditions include pH 6.4, ozone concentration 1.3 mg/L.min, hydrogen peroxide concentration 2.5 mL/L, reaction time 51 min and catalyst amount equal to 0.64 g/L. In these conditions, the amount of COD reduction was 82.3 and 70% theoretically and experimentally, respectively. Also, in optimal conditions, BOD5 and TPH removal rates were 90.5% and 85.8%, respectively. The kinetics of the process follows the kinetics of the first order (R2=0.98) and the presence of different mechanisms together causes a synergistic effect and increases the efficiency of the process.
Conclusion: This process can improve the quality of oil effluent based on COD, BOD5, and TPH removal.

Abstract
Background and Objective: Soil contamination with heavy metals is the most important challenge and common environmental, economic, and public health issue in the world. Therefore, this research was conducted to evaluate the contamination and source identification of Fe, Zn, Cd, and Cr in the surface soils of Khorramabad county, west of Iran in 2020.
Materials and Methods: In this descriptive study, after dividing the study area into 11 homogeneous units, a total of 65 surface soil samples were collected. After preparing the samples, the content of the elements was determined using inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES). Also, enrichment factor (EF), pollution factor (CF), and Nemrow integrated pollution index (NIPI) were calculated. Statistical analyses of the data were performed using SPSS statistical software.
Results: The results showed that the average content of Fe, Zn, Cd, and Cr (mg/kg) in soil samples were 3.14, 1.13, 0.021, and 0.529, respectively. The EF values showed that the enrichment of Zn, Cd, and Cr was "extremely severe" and the average values of EF for the elements followed the descending order of Cd > Cr > Zn. The average values of CF and NIPI varied from 3.30×10-5 to 0.182 and 0.043-0.136, respectively, indicating the level of "low pollution" and quality conditions of "no pollution" in all the studied stations. Based on the results of multivariate statistical analysis (PCC, PCA and HCA), Fe has a geological origin; while, Zn, Cd, and Cr mainly originated from a combination of geological processes and anthropogenic activities.
Conclusion: Although the average values of CF and NIPI showed that the study area has an acceptable soil quality, the values of EF indicated the impact of anthropogenic activities on soil contamination. Therefore, regular and periodic monitoring of soil samples as well as management and control of pollutant emission sources is recommended for maintaining environmental and human health.

Abstract
Background and Objective: Heavy metals in water can pose risks to human health. Therefore, it is necessary to monitor and measure metals to ensure the health of consumers.
Materials and Methods: This study aimed to measure heavy metals such as arsenic, lead, cadmium, chromium, zinc, and mercury in water resources and urban water distribution networks in spring and summer of 2021 in Maragheh city. Accordingly, 25 samples were taken to investigate the presence of heavy metals. The presence of these metals in water sources was investigated using qualitative maps and finally, by evaluating the health risk caused by the presence of these metals, their effect on the health of consumers has been studied.
Results: Examining the concentration of metals in water resources upstream of the dam shows a relatively high concentration of metals, especially arsenic (13.2 µg/L). Despite this, the amount of arsenic after the water treatment plant and in the distribution network is reduced to an insignificant level. On the other hand, the results show that the amount of zinc metal in the network is higher than in the reservoir of the dam, and its concentration in the dam is equal to zero and in the network, it reaches the highest value of 578 µg/L. Finally, the health risk assessment shows that the calculated THI values for all samples vary between 0.01 and 0.99.
Conclusion: Based on the calculated health risk, there is no threat to the health of consumers regarding heavy metals in Maragheh drinking water. Also, these results double the necessity of additional studies regarding the leakage of zinc metal from the pipes and accessories of the city's drinking water distribution network in the future.

Abstract
Background and Objective: One of the largest sources of methane emissions is landfills, and various models have been developed to predict landfill methane production and emissions. The main goal of this research is to utilize the inverse Gaussian model to estimate g methane greenhouse gas emissions and model it using field data. This study introduces a simple method to estimate the amount of methane emissions based on ambient methane concentrations.
Materials and Methods: In this research, the methane emission rates from landfill were estimated for warm (July) and cold (February) seasons using a sampling campaign from 27 stations and standard inverse Gaussian dispersion equations. Monte Carlo simulation was also employed. To determine the model, an optimization-based method, along with inverse scattering modeling, was utilized to process surface emission monitoring data.
Results: The model results indicated during the cold (February) and warm (July) seasons, the methane emission rates were estimated at 1696.99 and 16.53 g/s, respectively. These findings confirm that the methane production and emission during the cold season were lower than in the warm season, likely due to reduced temperature and bacterial activity.
Conclusion: The method used in this study, the inverse Gaussian dispersion model, can be applied to estimate methane gas emission rates from other landfills. However, it necessitates the permanent recording of data and the use of daily or weekly averages in calculations to mitigate potential errors and enhance the accuracy of modeling.

Background and Objective: Identiying the most optimal solution has long been an significant challenge for waste management decision-makers. This study aims to develop a decision support system to identify optimal environmental and economic scenarios for waste management.
Materials and Methods: This study presents the development and application of a decision support system that estimates the environmental burden and cost of waste using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Life Cycle Cost (LCC) tools. The system then identifies optimal environmental and economic scenarios for waste management through a linear programming model. Data from the Karaj waste management system were utilized to apply and validate the decision support system.
Results: The outputs of the linear programming model in this system included one scenario based on minimizing environmental impacts and two scenarios based on minimizing costs imposed on the Karaj waste management system (MSWS). In both the environmental and second economic scenarios, incineration contributed the most to waste management, whereas composting was the dominant method in the first economic scenario. Additionally, recycling the maximum possible amount of recyclable materials was a common feature in all three scenarios, due to its environmental and economic benefits.
Conclusion: The result of this study demonstrate that the current Decision Support System can provide optimal environmental and economic scenarios for waste management to the decision-makers in the field. This is achieved by considering the inherent differences in the types of waste produced, the technologies employed, and the processing costs associated with each waste management system.
