Abstract

The issue of abortion, as one of the most challenging issues in bioethics, requires an in-depth examination of philosophical and religious foundations. This article, using a descriptive and analytical method and relying on Islamic philosophical texts, has attempted to examine the philosophical foundations for granting status to the fetus. The main question of this research is whether the fetus has moral status from the perspective of Islamic philosophy and what reasons can exist to prove this claim.
The findings of this research show that among the words of Muslim philosophers, arguments such as the nature of a species of man, evolutionary potential, the gift of life, and the continuity of existence can be found, which will result in the status of the fetus. This research, by analyzing the opinions of Muslim philosophers and their philosophical context, has tried to present a systematic reading of the arguments of Islamic philosophy in defense of fetal rights.
