Abstract

Background & Objectives: Home-related traumas are the most common traumas and are ranked the second among different types of traumas. This study aimed to determine the status of home-related traumas in patients referred to medical centers in Kashan in 2010-2012.

Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 1028 patients referred to Kashan emergency medical centers were evaluated. The continuous sampling method was used for patient selection. The data collection tool was a researcher made questionnaire with two sections: demographic information and a checklist to evaluate the domestic trauma. Information was obtained by trained nurses through direct interviews with the patients and hospital records. Data was analyzed using SPSS version 0.16.

Results: Location patterns of incidents showed that the hall (27.7%), kitchen (20.3%) and yard (18.4%) were the most common injury sites. Recklessness (80.8%) was the most common cause of trauma. Most of the accidents were caused by falls (27.90%) and cutting tools (25.08%). Orthopedic injuries (50.2%) and hemorrhagic events (34.70%) were the most common traumas.

Conclusion: The results showed that domestic traumas often occurred following reckless behaviors. As a result, these traumas could be predicted and prevented by concentration and attention during working. To reduce the incidence of domestic traumas, people should receive information and training on health and safety issues in the home setting.

Abstract

Background & Objectives: This study was conducted to evaluate the completeness and geographical representativeness of the hepatitis B surveillance system between 2007 and 2013 in Hamadan Province.

Methods: In this descriptive study, all reported cases in Hamadan Province were extracted. The analytical literature review method was used to examine completeness. We used studies on the prevalence and incidence of hepatitis in Iran published between 2007 and 2013. Sensitivity analysis of the results was performed by simulation program using the R software. Geographical representativeness was assessed and plotted by the ArcGIS software, as well.

Results: Totally, 1378 cases were reported to the hepatitis B surveillance system in Hamadan Province. Most cases were from urban areas and were men, married, and housewives mostly in the age group 20 to 29 and 30 to 39 years. Completeness of the hepatitis B surveillance system was 77%. The hepatitis B surveillance system was not representative in terms of occupation but was representative in terms of age, sex, marital status, and place of living.

Conclusion: We concluded that the hepatitis B surveillance system had a relatively good performance. Moreover, findings of the analytical literature review method are affected by the included studies and interpretation of the results should be performed with caution.

Abstract

Background and Objectives: Ahvaz has become one of the most polluted cities in the world. Only on 11 November 2013, over one thousand residents in Khuzestan Province attended the nearest health center with severe symptoms, particularly shortness of breath, cough, wheezing, and high blood pressure. During a week, more than 7 thousand patients were registered with this syndrome. This study was conducted to investigate the evidence for the confirmation of an epidemic in acute respiratory syndrome among the residents of Ahwaz in November 2013.

Methods: In this cross-sectional study, we evaluated the data of the use of drugs related to acute respiratory attacks from November 2008 to 2013 in Ahvaz. Then, we conducted a descriptive study on the general population. The sample size was 120 and the study participants included different segments of the general population. The data collection tool was a researcher-made questionnaire and the data were analyzed using SPSS.18.

Results: The use of the respiratory drugs increased from 2008 to 2013. The drug consumption was markedly higher in November 2013. In the study of the general population, 93% of the participants declared that they had never seen a similar event, and 92.5% mentioned that they had never heard of a similar occurrence.

Conclusion: Due to the significant increase in respiratory medicine in November 2013 and the unexpected nature of the event, an epidemic seems to be obvious.

Abstract

Background and Objectives: Data plays a major role in a health care system in development planning and health services support if they are correct, timely and accessible. The data of the Ministry of Health are not readily available and the limited access reduces their value. The aim of this study was to explore the challenges of access to the data of the Iranian Ministry of Health.
Methods: This qualitative study was conducted in 2015. Twenty-three academic and administrative experts were selected purposefully. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to collect the data. The transcripts of the interviews were analyzed using content analysis.
Results: The results of this study provided 4 main themes (challenges of access to the data of the surveillance system, challenges of access to the data of national surveys and ordered projects, challenges of access to the data of electronic health records, and challenges of access to confidential data) and 15 sub-themes.
Conclusion: Given the multiple challenges of access to the data of the Iranian Ministry of Health, it is suggested to design access mechanisms in a systematic manner in the form of guidelines and organizational structures for data access management.

Abstract

Background and Objectives: Colorectal cancer is the second and fourth most common cancer in Iranian women and men, respectively. This cancer ranks fourth and fifth in men and women, respectively, among Yazd population. This study aimed to estimate the burden of colorectal cancer in Yazd province in 2016.
Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was performed on the population of Yazd province in 2016. CanMod software was used to calculate the burden of colorectal cancer. The required information included the population of Yazd province, the incidence of colorectal cancer, the death rate due to colorectal cancer, the death rate due to all causes and the survival rate of patients; The Cancer Registration System, the Provincial Death Registration System and the opinions of provincial experts were collected and included, respectively.
Results: The total burden of colorectal cancer in Yazd province was 632 years (382 years in men and 250 years in women); The YLL and YLD of colorectal cancer in both genders were 478 years and 154 years, respectively. The burden of colorectal cancer in men was 65 years and in women 45 years (per 100,000 population). The peak age of disease burden was estimated in the age group over 60.
Conclusion: Due to the high incidence and treatment in the early stages of the disease, screening and diagnosis in the early stages can be one of the health priorities of the province. However, the final judgment is made when the burden of other diseases and injuries is calculated in the province.
