Abstract

Background and objectives: Iranian family physician care program as a new program has begun since 2005 to deliver a better service particularly in primary health care. The objective this survey was to evaluate the impact of this program on family planning in Sari city between 2003-2007.
Methods: This survey was conducted among all women 15-49 years who married. Required data were collected from health files. The pattern of time trend evaluated and relevant indices compared before and after the family physician program.
Results: The application of condom, hormone injection, vasectomy and total modern contraceptives increased but employing the methods of tubectomy, IUD, OCP, Norplant and traditional method were descending. This variability for condom, tubectomy and traditional methods were statistically significant (p<0.05). However for other methods were not statistically significant (p>0.05). Difference of contraceptive using rates in pre and post of the application of program for condom, hormone injection, tubectomy and OCP were statistically significant (p<0.05) and for others were not statistically significant (p>0.05).
Conclusions: It seems relatively success of family physician program on family planning in Mazandaran province however more human resource should be allocated to family planning.

Abstract

Background & Objectives: Drowning is a major and serious public health problem in the northern provinces of Iran. It has significant opportunities for prevention. The aim of this study was to review the epidemiological pattern and burden of drowning in northern area f Iran.
Methods: To examine the incidence and characteristics of drowning in recreational water settings, we analyzed all available data from death registry in 2008 year in Mazandaran and Gilan provinces, located in north of Iran, through a retrospective study. Collective form was based on standard World Health Organization and then the burden of drowning was calculated.
Results: During 2008, 158 indigenous (88.6% male and 11.4% female) people from these provinces died due to drowning. The mean age of the drowned was 26.4 (SD=16.2) years. The drowning death rate was 2.9 per 100,000 population in two provinces. Most of cases (85.4%) of drowning occurred in sea and majority of death was in August (29.7 percent). Number of years lost was 4110 equivalent of 76.1 per 100,000 respectively. Most DALYs was seen to age group 10-19 years.
Conclusion: It is highly recommended the findings of this project should be considered for any future preventive plan by health authorizes in those provinces.

Abstract

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE AR-SA Background & Objectives: Years of life lost (YLL) was designed by the World Health Organization (WHO) to measure and analyze the burden of various diseases. Intentional and unintentional injuries, is the second cause of death in Iran. Since there is little know about the burden of injuries, this study designed to measure YLL in this group as a key indicator of population health and priority setting in health. 
Methods: Years of life lost was calculated based on death data from Death Registration system in Mazandaran province.
Results: During the year 1387 in Mazandaran province, 39,421 years lost due to intentional and unintentional injury. 30,498 years that related to men and 8923 years related to women. In this province injury has been the first cause of YLL in both sexes and age groups 20-24, 25-29 and 15-19 years, respectively.
Conclusion: Considering the results of this study and the high number of years lost due to accidents in the province, especially in men, it seems that more appropriate interventions programs for at risk age group of men in province is required.

Abstract

Background and Objectives: Spatial epidemiology is the description and analysis of geographic variations of diseases with respect to demographic, environmental, behavioral, socioeconomic, genetic, and infectious risk factors. Disease mapping includes a set of statistical techniques that lead to providing clean maps based on estimation of the incidence, prevalence and mortality rates for the users to enable them to reliably estimate the distribution of the diseases. In this study, the spatial epidemiology of diarrhea was evaluated in Mazandaran.

Methods: In the present study, statistical methods like the Moran’s I spatial autocorrelation, Anselin local Moran’s I, K function and Ripley index were used to evaluate 4924 cases between 1385-1390, based on certain factors detected in diarrheal diseases.

Results: The results of the global Moran index showed that this disease provided adherence to a cluster pattern in the province. The results of the K function also showed that apart from the western regions of the province, the diarrheal disease followed the above-mentioned cluster pattern. The results of Anselin local Moran and sensitive indicators revealed that the central region of the province, including the cities of Sari, Qaymshmhr, and Babol had the highest prevalence of the disease.

Conclusion: The results showed that the prevalence of syndrome diarrhea follows the pattern cluster and the use of spatial analysis methods in a specific geographic area is appropriate for programs to reduce health risks. And in epidemiological studies, analysis and risk assessment diarrhea syndrome are very important.
