Abstract

Background and aim: Skin rejuvenation is in demand. In recent years, mono- and bipolar radiofrequency (RF) have been reckoned as treatment of choice for this purpose. The studies on RF have shown the remodeling of collagen fibers and consequently improvement of skin texture although risks and side effects may exist.
Methods: Forty-eight patients requesting skin rejuvenation were treated by RF after obtaining written consent from them. The diagnosis had been made solely on the basis of examination and observation. The photography was performed in all patients pre- and post-treatment. The pictures were evaluated by a dermatologist unaware of the sequence of photos.
Results: the wrinkles improved in 26(54%) patients. The response was better with increasing age. Transient pain and erythema were reported by all patients.
Conclusion: Radiofrequency is an appropriate treatment for reducing the number and the depth of wrinkles and needs comprehensive education. At least, 4 treatment sessions with 2-week intervals are required for effectiveness.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Cutaneous tuberculosis (TB) is a relatively uncommon form of extra pulmonary TB. Even in countries where TB still commonly occurs, cutaneous TB is rare. In our country accurate statistics of the forms of cutaneous tuberculosis are not available. The aim of this study was to assess the frequency of cutaneous tuberculosis during the years 1997 to 2012 in Gorgan, Iran.
Methods: In this retrospective cross-sectional study, patients affected with cutaneous tuberculosis referred to 5 Azar Hospital in Gorgan from April 1997 to September 2012 were studied. Data collected from the medical records of patients were statistically described and analyzed.
Results: In this study, 30 cases of cutaneous TB were found that 18 (60%) of them were women. The disease was most commonly observed in age group of 21 to 40 years. Lupus vulgaris (18, 60%), papulonecrotic tuberculid (6, 20%) and scrofuloderma (3, 10%) were the most common types of cutaneous tuberculosis in these patients.
Conclusion: Lupus vulgaris is the most frequent form of cutaneous tuberculosis in Gorgan.

Abstract

Recently, a new technology called nano-fractional radiofrequency has been developed in the treatment of skin rejuvenation. This novel technology can reduce side effects and recovery time due to the smaller pin size. The clinical trials have reported the effectiveness and safety of this new technology for treating many skin disorders such as rhytides, acne erythema, scarring, rosacea, striae and skin laxity. Despite its growing usage in aesthetic fields many clinical trials are needed to evaluate the effectiveness of this novel technology.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Skin cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world, and in many parts of Iran is ranked first to second in number. However, its epidemiology has not been reviewed and studies are limited in Kashan city. This study was conducted to determine the frequency of skin cancers in this city.

Methods: Data were collected using recorded data in Pathology Laboratory of Kashan University of Medical Sciences during years 2009 to 2017. UV index (UV-I) data over the period (2009-2017) were obtained from well-known meteorological sites. Data were analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistics (Chi-square test and MANOVA) using SPSS software version 16.

Results: Skin cancers totally constituted 26.4% of all cancers in Kashan during 2009-2017. 79% of them were basocellular type. Frequenty of spinoscellular and malignant melanoma were 16% and 3%, respectively. The mean age of patients with skin cancers was 48 years. Men showed higher incidence base cellular of cancer than women. The long-term survey of the UV index in the Kashan city showed that in eight months of the year, it was higher than 6 (high to high risk).

Conclusion: Skin cancer is one of the most common cancers in the city of Kashan, especially in men. Educational programs should be developed and conducted to prevent and reduce risk of skin cancer among residents in this city.

Abstract

Rosacea is an inflammatory, chronic and cosmetically annoying common dermatologic disorder which presents with cutaneous telangiectasia, sustained erythema with courses of flares and flushings, papulopustular lesions, ocular involvement or disfigurating phymas. Although there are many relative effective medical therapies, however there are not any promissable treatment. Due to chronic nature of disease and exhausting usage of topical or systemic therapies , we decided to review Pubmed’s literature for non-medical physical therapies, looking for more effective modalities and minimal side effects, particularly in intractable cases.
