Abstract

In this study, 116 edentulous patients in the age group 37-90 yrs were selected. Out of the above,12 patients had visited the dept. Of prosthodontics for the first time for treatment. Other 34 of them were patients of the dental school and the rest were from Kahrizak and Nikan sanatoriums.Initially, the V.D. of rest was measured as usual for all the patients. After subjecting them to the excercises of completely opening and closing of the mouth for 15 no. of times, the rest position was measured again. Results show that the changes in V.D.R. after, excercises, relaxing the elevator and depressor muscles and the duration of usage of prosthesis, the following conclusions are obtained.
1. There is an increase in V.D.R. after tiring out the elevator and depressor muscles of the jaws.
2. There is a direct co - relation between the increased V.D.R. and duration of use of prosthesis after excercises.
3. Change in the V.D.R. after excercise is notably more in women.
4. No definite conclusion is obtained in the relationship between changes in V.D.R. after excercises and use of prosthesis during sleep.
5. As above no conclusions as yet can be deduced between changes in V.D.R. and different operators.

Abstract

In recent years the use of titanium implant have received special attention in dentistry. In 1994 an implant clinic has established in Faculty of Dentistry, Tehran University of Medical Science and since then, 289 implants have been placed for 120 patients. In literatures a success rate of 93% and 84% of implants placed in mandible and maxilla respectively, have been reported. The purpose of this study was to evaluate implant success rate at implant clinic of Faculty of Dentistry, Tehran University of Medical Science. This study was based on reviewing the patients' charts. Results showed that success rates for Branmark, ITI, and IMZ implant systems were 94%, 95%, and 97% respectively. The higher success rate achieved in this clinic might be due to shorter period of time which implants were placed. Researches showed that care in patient selection, treatment planning, and following exact surgical and prosthetic principles will lead to a higher success and lower failure rates.

Abstract

Many different methods are suggested to restore endodontically treated teeth. Prefabricated posts can not be indicated for all teeth and cast posts require extra time and cost. In addition, with the introduction of full ceramic restorations, achieving the ideal esthetic with metal post underneath them may be problematic or impossible because the darkness of the metallic posts may show through the highly translucent all ceramic restorations. In this article the review of litature and describiton of applied methods of different procedure in restoring the root canal therapied teeth and few techniques of non metallic posts fabrication such as fiber reinforced composite and zirconium oxide posts have been described.

Abstract

Background and Aims: The dentistry profession is one of the most injuring professions that causes most pains and hurts for dentists because of their lack of knowledge about the ergonomic position through the work. The purpose of this study was to assess the ergonomic position of dentists with RULA method in dentists of Bojnord.
Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, all of the Bojnord’s county dentists were selected. RULA method and Nowerdik questionnaire were used for investigating the agronomical position, and muscular-skeleton position, respectively. The analysis was done by SPSS22 using regression and chi-square test. A P-value of less than 0.005 was assumed as significant.
Results: The most muscle-skeleton reports were 55.6% (35 persons) related to back, 54% (34 persons) related to shoulders, 50.8% (32 persons) related to waist, and 47.6% (30 persons) related to neck aches. In the last 12 months, 90.5% of dentists reported pains from at least one of organs of their bodies and 27% were supposed to leave their works which the sex (P=0.84), length (P=0.75), and weight (P=0.38) were not significantly related to this case.
Conclusion: According to the results of this study educational interventions is essential to prevent the musculoskeletal disorders in dentistry.
