Abstract
Statement of Problem: Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are major parts of the occupational diseases in workplaces. Protection from such diseases is dependent on assessment and improvement of job postures by using job analysis methods in ergonomics.
Purpose: This study was aimed to evaluate ergonomic conditions in dental professions by rapid entire body assessment (REBA) in Birjand city and also to assess the relation between MSDS in different parts of the body and work conditions.
Materials and Methods: This study was a descriptive-analytical approach performed on 48 persons working at different professions by using REBA method. The prevalence of MSDs was obtained by using Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ). The data were analyzed by independent t-test, Chi-square and Fisher tests with P<0.05 as the limit of significance.
Results: In this investigation, the prevalence of disorders for different parts of the body was as follows: 65% for neck, 60% for back, 38% for shoulders, and 31% for wrist. These disorders were higher in women than men except for the back. There were significant correlation between disorders of femur and foreleg with work history, ankle and sole with body mass index (BMI), and MSDs with work conditions (P<0.05).
Conclusion: It is concluded that the work conditions and postures need to be improved. In addition the level of dental professional education regarding biomechanical hazardous effects as well as correct work conditions and postures should be increased.

Abstract
Dental portraits are predominantly used for orthodontics, orthognathic surgery and prosthetic dentistry. If these images are to be used for documentation, then the patient must be positioned in accordance with strict guidelines for further references. If the images are to be used to present an aesthetic impression of dental treatment there is more flexibility in positioning the patient. Dental photography is used to make pictures of teeth and surrounding tissues, radiographs, casts and other objects. In this section, standard principles for portrait pictures are explained.

Abstract
Object photography in dentistry including dental instruments, models, teeth and gross specimens has some special features and needs special onsideration. These objects are usualy very small, highly usually reflective and often with very bright surfaces. They need special lighting and other accessories for acceptable results. On the other hand, in laboratories and dental clinics we haven't enough time for taking photographs.The purpose of this article is to introduce the inciples of object photography in dentistry.

Abstract
Background and Aim: Dental anxiety is a common problem in pediatric dentistry and results in behaviors like fear and anger that can negatively affect dental treatments. Exposure to various dental treatments and distressful experiences are reasons for anxiety during dental treatments. The aim of this study was to evaluate effect of cognitive behavioral interventions in reduction of stress during dental procedures in children.
Materials and Methods: In this clinical trial, 42 boys and girls, undergoing dental treatments were selected from dental clinics in Tehran. Patients were assigned to cognitive-behavioral interventions, placebo and control conditions. The fear scale, anger facial scale, pain facial scale and physiologic measure of pulse beat were evaluated. One way ANOVA and Tukey test were used to analyze the results and p<0.05 was the level of significance.
Results: Results showed significant differences between cognitive-behavioral interventions, placebo and control groups regarding fear, anger, pain and pulse beat. Comparison tests revealed that cognitive-behavioral interventions were more effective in reducing fear, anger, pain and pulse beat compared to the placebo or control.
Conclusion: According to the results of this study cognitive-behavioral interventions can be used to reduce distress of children undergoing dental procedures.

Abstract
Background and Aims: There are several risk factors in dentistry professional environment. Carelessness about occupational health regulation endangers dentist's life. Erconomics in dentistry is a scientific approach which introduces the latest ergonomic principles in dental profession. It discusses about physical and mental stresses. Ergonomic programs eliminate dentist physical and mental challenges and provide practical solution to establish efficient and comforting environment.
Materials and Methods: This study reviewed the role and effectiveness of Ergonomics in dental profession. We used related journals, books and ergonomics websites to write this article.
Conclusion: Many of researchers believe that awkward body posture and low movement are the sources of occupational disorders. Therefore, knowledge of ergonomics risk factors in dental office design is very important. Dentist's body posture and dental equipment evaluations are important factors in dental ergonomics. The most logical approach to design dental equipment for utilizing ergonomics principles is consideration of the dentist posture and type of movements and activities. In conclusion, dentists should be informed about dental ergonomics regulation and its different aspects. Furthermore, academic developments and research projects can be useful in this area.

Abstract
Background and Aims: Musculoskeletal disorders in dentists due to abnormal postures may result in economic and health problems. To prevent these problems, the working posture of dental students should be assessed and corrected in dental procedures. This study determine these problems and the effect of training courses on them by Rapid Entire Body Assessment method (REBA).
Materials and Methods: The posture of 69 students were assessed by REBA before and after of the “Ergonomic principles in dentistry” course. The subjects which were used in the training course were based on the previous studies on this issue. The REBA scores were assessed by SPSS software using Paired T-test.
Results: The results showed that the students’ posture should be corrected. Postures of 94.2% of students were in moderate and high risk level which needed to be corrected. The worst working positions were during surgery, endodontic and pediatric dentistry procedures. Although the REBA scores before and after training course were statistically different (P<0.05), the training did not improve the posture of students remarkably.
Conclusion: The students’ working postures should be improved. One-day ergonomic principles course improved the working posture of students but it was not sufficient. More training and instructions are needed to have a good working position in dental procedures.

Abstract
Background and Aims: Fissure sealant therapy is a national program in elementary schools in Iran. Therefore, evaluation of the parents' knowledge and attitude is necessary to improve the program.
Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional and descriptive-analytic study, Iranian students were chosen in a randomized cluster manner. The questionnaires were filled-out by students' parents to evaluate their general information, knowledge, and attitude. Moreover, students were examined for having any fissure-sealed teeth. Data were collected and analyzed by multiple logistic regression tests.
Results: 414 boy students and their parents were participated in this study. 57.6% of parents knew that fissure sealant prevents the caries and 44.5% believed that fissure sealant is important to prevent caries. However, only 8.9% of children had fissure sealant. Parents' knowledge was significantly related to the source of oral health information and oral health education. Regular dental visits and high level education was effective in increasing the knowledge about sealant therapy. There was a significant relation between parents' attitude toward fissure sealant and level of education, oral health education and numbers and times of dental visit (P<0.001). There were a significant relation between tooth sealing and parents' oral health information.
Conclusion: Regular dental visits and oral health education have positive role in parent's knowledge and attitude and practice. So parents must be encouraged to have regular dental visit and dentists must be emphasized to give them necessary education. School is the best place for giving proper information to parents.

Abstract
Background and Aims: Evaluation of the training is a principle for successful education. This study evaluated the effect of the theoretical course of community oral health on knowledge, attitude and self-reported practice of preventive dentistry in dental students at Tehran University of Medical Sciences and assessed the students' satisfaction from the course.
Materials and Methods: The intervention group comprised the forth-year students of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Dental School and the controls were the forth year students of Shahid Beheshti Medical University. The questionnaire included questions on backgrounds, knowledge, attitude and practice of students towards preventive dentistry, and students' satisfaction from the course. The intervention was 17 weekly sessions (hours) of the community oral health course. The sum of scores for questions on backgrounds, knowledge, attitude and practice were calculated and changes were analyzed by General Linear Model.
Results: The mean baseline knowledge score in the intervention group was 16.9 (SD=4.0) and for the control group 16.3 (SD=3.5). Corresponding figures were 23.7 (SD=3.4) and 17 (SD=3.3) after intervention. General linear model showed the intervention to be successful in increasing the students' knowledge scores on preventive dentistry (P<0.0001). Most students (92%) were satisfied with learning several new items during the course.
Conclusion: The students' knowledge was successfully increased by passing the theoretical course of community oral health delivered by teacher-centered method of lecture. Student-centered methods may help in changing the students' attitude and practice of preventive dentistry.

Abstract
Dentistry has been a field dominated by a constant improvement of synthetic biomaterials. Tissue engineering of tooth is coming to change the panel of the dental materials such as restorative materials and implants. Certainly, it is the largest transition in history of dental materials science in terms of accepting this new and exciting technology. The objective of this article is to present various implications of tissue engineering in different fields of dentistry. To achieve this goal, a review of the literature was carried out by using Medline database to search topics including "dental stem cells", "teeth tissue engineering", "regenerative dentistry", "oral surgery", "periodontal regeneration" and "regenerative endodontics". These searches were limited to articles published after the year 2000. On the basis of our literature review, we have found that although there are significant challenges in oral tissues engineering, engineered tissues will find many applications in dentistry within the next few years.

Abstract
Morality and ethics constitute fundamental principles of professional, educational and investigational aspects of medicine and all its branches, including dentistry. There are specific considerations in dental research which could significantly affect the design and progress of scientific projects performed in this field. The aim of the current study was to present an overview of ethical concepts governing dental research and to provide examples of common issues raised during dentistry-related investigations. Establishment of human tooth banks in major research and training centers is suggested to enhance the process of conducting more substantial research in dentistry.

Abstract
Background and Aims: The importance of quality in medical education makes the need for better standards in educational systems in the center of interest as the basis for certification. Standards needed to be evaluated by program administrators before the implementation phase. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the general dentistry standards program in Islamic republic of Iran from dental schools view point.
Materials and Methods: This descriptive study was performed during the year 2011 and 2012. A list of 16 faculties was introduced by the dental secretariat of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education. A check list was conducted based on the basic standards of undergraduate dental program that consisted of the importance and feasibility of each standard. The checklist was evaluated by sixteen dental schools representatives and asked their faculty members and reported back to the dental secretariat of the Ministry of Health. Results were reported in descriptive statistics manner.
Results: Data were collected from 14 dental schools. (Response rate=87%). All of the criteria were essential with more than 85% agreement of the faculties. There were more than 70% of criteria that were not feasible in less than one year.
Conclusion: The dental standard program was widely accepted by the faculties over the country. However, it seemed that by the faculties it would fail if used as accreditation base line.

Abstract
Background and Aims: The routine mechanical plaque control is done by toothbrush. With regard to different designs of tooth head brushes in order to better plaque removal, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of between teeth and cross-action tooth brush on the plaque and gingival status among dental students of dental branch-Islamic Azad University during 2012-13 academic years.
Materials and Methods: This single-blind, cross over, clinical trial was conducted on 30 subjects with mean age (23±0.9) in two groups of 15 persons . They had at least 20 teeth and had gingivitis with no history of antibiotic use in the last 3 months. Those who were undergoing orthodontic treatment, using drugs affecting the gums and having crown and bridge were excluded from the study. The first group used the cross action toothbrush and the second group used between teeth toothbrush and the subjects were asked to brush their teeth for two minutes twice a day in modified bass method and not to floss during the execution of this study. After 14 days plaque index (Turesky, Approximal plaque index) and gingival bleeding index were recorded on all teeth except third molars. After a week wash out period, second stage of the study was conducted the same as the first stage with the other kind of brush for each group. Data were analyzed using Generalized Linear Model (GLM) test.
Results: There was no statistical significant difference between two toothbrushes based on plaque index, gingival bleeding index and approximal plaque index, respectively (P = 0.29, P = 0.47, P = 0.33). In all measured indices, the treatment sequence showed no significant difference (P = 0.23).
Conclusion: There was no statistical difference between cross-action and between teeth toothbrush in reducing plaque and gingival bleeding.

Abstract
Poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) is a biodegradable polymer which has used in a different fields of medical applications. As PLGA is approved by FDA(food and drug administration) the range of this usage is increasing in comparison to the past. Particularly, PLGA are also developed for the dental field in the form of scaffolds, films, membranes, microparticles, or nanoparticles. PLGA scaffolds have been used to regenerate damaged tissues together with stem cell-based therapy. There is solid evidence thatthe development of PLGA microparticles and nanoparticles may be beneficial to a wide range of dental fields such as endodontic therapy, dental caries, dental surgery, dental implants, or periodontology. The aim of the current paper was to review the recent advances in PLGA materials and their potential uses in Dentistry via exploring related literature during 2004 till 2016 in Science Direct and PubMed.

Abstract
Background and Aims: Constant dynamic and static activities are considered as the main cause of musculoskeletal problems among dentists. The aim of this study was to evaluate the musculoskeletal problems and related factors among dentists in specialized clinics and dental schools in Tehran in 2014 using the REBA method.
Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, the dentists from clinics of dental schools in Tehran were selected as individual targets. Nordic anddemopghrphic questionnaire were completed through interview from dentists. In order to assess the musculoskeletal disorders, REBA method (Rapid Entire Body Assessment) was used. In this method, positions and postures of the dentists during their work was observed and recorded. Data was analyzed using Regression Logestic test.
Results: The obtained results showed that among 100 dentist, 6% were in the very high risk (15-11) for musculoskeletal problems and 17% and 25% were in high-risk (10-8) and average risk (7-4), respectively. Based on the findings from Nordic questionnaire, the most skeletal- muscle travail were related to the neck (60%), lumbar (58%) and rear (46%) consequently. It seemed that factors such as gender, body mass index (BMI), height, specialty, body posture during the work (standing or sitting), smoking and using the direct or indirect vision, had an impact on the musculoskeletal disorders.
Conclusion: Findings from the final scoring of REBA showed that a high percentage of dentists were struggling with skeletal- muscle problems and they were in moderate to high range of risk for these type of disorders.

Abstract
Geriatric is a growing phenomenon which recently rises so fast. With increasing age, the biological and physiological changes occur in different organs. Socioeconomic situation with emerging multiple diseases, disability and changes in oral status can all affect the quality of life of people. The aim of this study was to overview on aging process and consideration on oral changes in particular.
This study was carried out by reviewing different scientific sources from Pub Med, Google scholar and Iranian articles (SID) since 2005 to 2016. Oral condition may be according to the systemic diseases or solely. The changes in the hard tissue and soft tissue occur. Each of these changes is the result of damage due to the people’s situations which sometimes make it difficult to repair.
Nevertheless, rising age in global and in Iran have to be considerd. Periodic visits are important because they reduce the risk of some diseases, including cancers in the mouth. Also, the influence of maintaining the oral and periodontal health conditions not only specifically in oral health but more broadly on some systemic diseases such as heart disease, lung disease, diabetes and etc. are quite important.

Abstract
Background and Aims: By measure of scientific publications, it is possible to present a real picture of scientific activities of a country. In this regard, based on joint work to achieve specific objectives that typically produce knowledge and scientific information, scientific and research cooperations are defined. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to analyze the scientific collaborations in Iranian dentistry articles in Scopus during 2010‐2014.
Materials and Methods: The population was Iranian dental articles which were indexed in Scopus during 2010‐2014. Finally, the results were presented in the format of tables and diagrams.
Results: The findings showed that scientific cooperations were increased in the field of dentistry during 2014-2010 in the Scopus. Tehran University of Medical Sciences had the most publications. The rate of index, degree and coefficient of collaboration during 2010-2014, were 4.23, 0.97 and 0.71, respectively with relatively high values. Most of the articles during the 2010-2014 were four, three, and five authored articles were the first, second and finally the third position of occurrence rate. Our data suggested that the lowest number of articles were related to articles with 9 authors or more.
Conclusion: According to the results of this study, it can be concluded that the Iranian prosperity of scientific publication in the field of Dentistry is growing. Furthermore, the results showed that the Iranian authors and researchers have tendency to scientific collaboration with other researchers in groups.

Abstract
FTIR spectroscopic imaging is a chemical imaging method that can be employed to a broad range of applications. This powerful technique is suitable for determining the functional groups and chemical structures of the samples. The advantage of infra-red spectroscopy is that it can be used for various modes of physical samples. The aim of the current paper was to review the recent advances and the potential uses of Fourier Transform Infra-red Spectroscopy in dentistry via exploring related literature during 1960 till 2017 in Science Direct and PubMed databases. One of the most popular applications of infrared spectroscopy is to calculate the degree of conversion in the resin based dental materials. It has also been used to investigate the chemical structure of the teeth and bones, synthesis calcium phosphate, the diagnosis of microorganisms, and pathological conditions. In this paper, we mentioned the principles of this technique and recommend this method as a simple and fast way to determine the structure of the materials and their alteration.

Abstract
Background and Aims: In recent years, the dentistry workflow has developed considerably. By the introduction of computers and their various applications, the effectiveness and efficiency of treatment has increased enormously. Considering engineering concepts in the workflow, it is necessary for participants to assess different steps and data transferring between various software and hardware devices. This research investigated the interaction between dentists, laboratories and production centers through the required steps for accomplishing treatment by different applications of software and digital hardware devices.
Materials and Methods: Review in this article was based on searching Google scholar database considering key words: digital dentistry, workflow, computer aided design and manufacturing, dental CAD/CAM. This search was limited to the English articles published after the year 2000.
Conclusion: It is necessary in dentistry to use digital technologies to improve the efficiency of treatments. Thus, the participants in this field must have appropriate knowledge to choose and apply these tools. Moreover, the participant should help providers of digital solutions for better development of software packages and related hardwares.a

Abstract
Background and Aims: The cell phone has played a significant role in the transmission of microbial contamination as a public tool. The present study was conducted to determine the degree of contamination of mobile phones of students and staff of the dental school of Isfahan University of Medical Sciences.
Materials and Methods: In a cross-sectional study, 60 samples were taken from 60 cell phones belonging to students, staff and faculty members of the Isfahan Dental School, the samples were cultured in the laboratory for microbial contamination of the phone. The behavioral characteristics of the subjects were also determined using a cell phone special questionnaire. Data were analyzed by SPSS version 24 using descriptive statistics, one-way AVONA, T-test and Chi square.
Results: Among the 60 cultured samples, 11 (18.3%) did not grow any bacteria. In 31 cases (51.7%), Staphylococcus epidermidis, 14 cases (23.3%) Staphylococcus aureus susceptible to methicillin and in 4 (6.7%) methicillin resistant staphylococcus aurous were grown. The mean of bacteria colonization was 18±12.2 and there was not any relation between the colonization and kind of bacteria (P=0.78) and studied groups (P=0.43). Also, there was a significant difference between the sanitary conditions and the type of bacteria grown in the culture medium (P=0.04).
Conclusion: According to the results of the study, the cell phones belonging to the students, lecturers and faculty staff were contaminated by harmful bacteria such as staph aurous. These bacteria are the most important of nosocomial infections and may be led to a wide areas of infections from simple to serious types.

Abstract
Background and Aims: One of the important fields of dentistry is surgery for dental implants. In this field, dentistry has developed considerably in recent years amongst other fields of medicine from the perspective of digital device and software application. Surgical guides help dental surgeon for more precise, confident, easier and shorter surgery. Process of producing these tools are full digital and to somehow complex due to the application of many technical devices, software and protocols. To achieve efficiency, all participants in the workflow must be aware of all steps and data requirements for production of guides. This paper investigates the production process of surgical guide comprehensively, and also, encompass all the steps in process with details.
Materials and Methods: This review article was based on searching Google scholar and PupMed databases considering key words: Surgical Guide, Guided surgery, digital dentistry, dental CAD/CAM, Additive manufacturing. More than 90% of the references were in English language and published after year 2010.
Conclusion: Today dentistry uses many digital solutions for dairy workflow and most of these solutions are developed by engineers in various fields of knowledge. Thus, this information is essential for dentists, surgeon, clinician and laboratory technician, etc. for better collaboration and participation. Amongst, advances in surgery of dental implant have been highly significant and patients benefit from better treatment and less inconvenience. In addition, dentists do surgery more precise and easier because of considering all conditions before of surgery. Thus, it is substantial inform of all steps of production process.
