Abstract

Background: Performance evaluation could provide information to managers that they need to evaluate and monitor of the current status and activities in hospitals. The PABON LASSO model was applied to evaluate performing of hospitals affiliated with Ahwaz Jundishapour University of Medical Sciences to produce the information that used by policy makers in their attempt to make more productivity health care system.
Materials & Methods: This cross-sectional & descriptive study involved in 26 hospitals, with 3824 available beds. Data for this study extracted from computerized databases within statistical department of vice- chancellor for clinical affairs. This study used the PABON LASSO model combining with three major indicators of hospital performance named as average length of stay, bed occupancy rate, and bed turnover which analyzed in PABON LASSO model. The statistical software SPSS-13 used to derive three basic performance indicators.
Results: Based on 10 hospitals in Zone 3 of the model the satisfactory level of efficiency indicated. Results in 2 hospitals demonstrated the inefficiency and underutilization of resources by falling into Zone 1 and 7 hospitals in zone 2 and 7 hospitals placed in Zone 4. The overall average length of stay, bed occupancy and bed turnover rates were 3.57 days, 63.13% and 79.37 times respectively.
Conclusion: The performance of hospitals affiliated with Ahwaz Jundishapour University of Medical Sciences was in a relatively desirable level. Future research should be focused on why and how this situation could be improved in the hospitals with low efficiency.

Abstract

Background:  It  is  a  long  time  that  the  matter  of  manager`s  Communication  skills  and  staff motivation  have  come  up  in  Iranian  hospitals.  This  study  determined  the  relationship  between manager`s communication skills and staff motivation to identify the present situation and provide managers with appropriate strategies to enhance the motivation level of employees in the Modares hospital.

Materials and Methods: This study was conducted using a descriptive-correlative method. The statistical society consisted of 66 individuals including 11 top and mid-level managers and 55 of their affiliated staff which were selected using a clustered model from the medical and administration sections. Data were collected using a 3- part questionnaire. Demographic data were measured in the first part while communication skills and motivation were measured in the second and third parts separately. Manager`s communication skills were measured using the Ardeshirzadeh(2005) questionnaire while Mokhbery questionnaire (2008) was used to measure staff motivation. The data were analyzed by the SPSS software using statistical indicators, relative frequency, mean and standard deviation, nonparametric tests and Pearson correlation factor.

Results: The average of the three dimensions of manager`s communication skills were (3.57± 0.57) for non-verbal skills, (3.24 ± 0.62) for the underlying communication skills and (3.23 ± 0.88) for verbal communication skills in a descending order while the average score of staff motivation was (2.57 ± 055). Meanwhile results from the Pearson correlation factor showed that there is only a significant positive relationship between the underlying communication skills and staff motivation with the correlation coefficient of r=0.25 and p-value = 0.042.

Conclusion: Since there is a significant relationship between the underlying management communication skills (empathy, effective listening and self-efflorescence) and staff motivation, improving this dimension can increase the motivation of employees.

Abstract

Background and purpose: Assessing job satisfaction within any organization is essential due to its impact on productivity and overall effectiveness. This study aimed to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Persian version of Spector's Job Satisfaction Questionnaire among employees of emergency medical centers.
Methods: This descriptive-analytical study was conducted among 270 employees of emergency medical centers in Ahvaz between February 2021 and June 2021. Data collection was performed using a census method and Spector's Job Satisfaction Questionnaire. Face validity, content validity, and translation accuracy of the questionnaire were reviewed by experts. Convergent and divergent validity and reliability were assessed using factor loadings, average variance extracted (AVE), reciprocal factor loadings, Cronbach's alpha, and composite reliability in SMART-PLS 3 software.
Results: The face validity, content validity, and translation accuracy of the questionnaire were confirmed by experts to suit the Iranian context. All item factor loadings and the AVE index for all constructs exceeded 0.4. The AVE index for the entire questionnaire was 0.523. Examination of reciprocal factor loadings confirmed divergent validity. Cronbach's alpha and composite reliability indices for all constructs were above 0.7. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient and composite reliability for the entire questionnaire were 0.83 and 0.88, respectively.
Conclusion: The validity and reliability of this questionnaire, as adjusted for the Iranian population, were confirmed to be high. Therefore, this questionnaire can be effectively used to evaluate job satisfaction among employees in various organizations, particularly in healthcare organizations and centers.
