Abstract

Background: Establishing an effective communication between health team professionals and diabetic patients is an important issue in living with type 2 diabetes. This study was conducted to assess communication between health workers as an obstacle in living with diabetes among type 2 diabetic patients referring to affiliated hospitals of Tehran University of Medical Sciences.
Materials and Methods: This survey was a descriptive, analytic cross-sectional with 600 patients selected by a simple random method. Data were collected using a two part questionnaire including demographic information, health and disease related variables and HbA1C index (containing 10 questions) and communication of health workers with diabetic patients (containing 18 questions) which was measured by a five-level Likert scale [absolutely agree (5) to absolutely disagree (1)]. Validity and reliability of the questionnaire was verified. Questionnaires was filled by interview. SPSS software version 11.5 and descriptive statistical tests (mean and standard deviation) and inferential tests (chisquared, logistic regression model) were used for data analysis. Level of significance was assumed to be less than 0.05.
Results: Mean and standard deviation of communication between health workers and patients as an obstacle were 56.78± 7.17. Study results indicated that there were statistically significant relationships between sex(p<0.001), disease duration (p<0.001) , level of education (p<0.001) , type of treatment (p<0.001), occupation status (p<0.001), age categories (p<0.001), income status (p<0.001), marital status (p<0.001) and HbA1C index (p<0.001) and communication with health care as an obstacle. In addition results of the logistic regression model showed that the ratio of intensity of health worker communication as an obstacle was 0.38 times in 5-10 years and 1.32 times in more than 10 years diabetic patients compared to patients with less than 5 years disease duration. This ratio was significant in the group of diabetic patients with 5-10 years disease duration (p=0.004) and was effectively significant in intensity of health worker communication as an obstacle.
Conclusion: Study results indicated that several factors affect communication between health workers and patients and the factor of years diabetic duration is related to ratio of the intensity of communication as an obstacle which can be helpful due to the planning health improvement interventions.

Very little research has been conducted into medical tourism barriers and a large amount of them just note structural barriers. This study is aimed to identify the most important communicational barriers of medical tourism and provide and examine a model of such barriers considering medical tourism`s intercultural nature. Materials & Methods: This study is applied by purpose and survey by method. The three stages in completion of this study are : 1) Identifying the most important communicational barriers of medical tourism in Iran,2) designing a model of identified barriers by using interpretive structural modeling approach 3) examining the designed model in a sample of 300 individuals. Results: Correlation test indicates a positive and significant relationship between variables in less than 0.01 significant level. Regression analysis confirms that all independent variables are significant predictor of the dependent variables .Therefore all hypotheses are confirmed. Conclusion: This survey identified main medical tourism communicational barriers in Iran as: Lack of understanding, Perceived linguistic difference, Lack of trust, Perceived cultural difference, Prejudice, Stereotyping. Abstract

Background: The emotional intelligence of nurses has several effects on their behavior skills. In this study, the relation between Emotional Intelligence (EI) and Communication Skills (CS) among emergency unit nurses was assessed.

Materials and Methods: In the descriptive analytical study, 253 nurses of fifteen IUMS hospitals were selected using census sampling method. The Golmans instrument for EI assessment and self -administered CS questionnaire filled by study participants. Validity and reliability of the questionnaire confirmed. SPSS software version 18 utilized to analysis using ANOVA, Spearman correlation test and Pearson correlation coefficient.

Results: mean of total EI estimated 78.31 which the highest and lowest score were in self-cognitive dimension (20.83) and self-management dimension (18.19) respectively. The total mean of CS was 70.90. There was a significant statistical correlation between EI and CS (r=0. 775, p<0.001). Moreover, there was a significant statistical correlation between CS and four dimensions of EI.

Conclusion: Based on study results, emotional intelligence and its dimensions had positive effect on communication skills among emergency unit nurses. Hospital managers can reinforce emotional intelligence by providing educational sessions. They should promote communication skills in emergency unit nurses and provide improvement emergency services quality.

Abstract

Background: Communication is one of the central concepts and an integral part of the nursing profession. This study aimed to determine the effect of communication skills training of nurses on patient satisfaction with nursing staff services in teaching hospitals affiliated to Shiraz University of Medical Sciences.
 
Materials and Methods: The Comparative study carried out in 2017. The research population included nurses from educational hospitals and patients referring to them. Four hundred patients were selected through convenience sampling method and one hundred trained nurses and one hundred untrained nurses were randomly chosen. The data collection instruments were a standard questionnaire. Data were analyzed in SPSS23 using T-test, ANOVA, Tukey test, and Pearson correlation coefficient at α = 5% level.
 
Results: Mean scores of nurse-patient commination and satisfication of nursing services among patients under care of trained nurses were 93.5 ± 21.08 and 176.24 ± 22.14 and mean score of patients under care of untrained nurses the scors 81.76 ± 18.83 and 166.36 ± 41.10, respectively. A significant direct correlation was found between nursing-patient commination score and patient satisfaction score (P= 0.023, r= 0.681). Patients under the care of trained nurses were more satisfied with nursing services than those served by untrained nurses (P= 0.012). The results revealed that patient satisfaction had a significant relationship with age (P<0.001) and marital status (P=0.031).
 
Conclusion:  Implementation of communication skills training courses for nurses leads to improved patient satisfaction. Hospital directors are recommended to consider holding regular communication skills training courses for their nursing staff.

Abstract

Background and Objective: Employee creativity is a key element for
achieving sustainable competitive advantage in both private and public
organizations. This study aims to explore the influence of leadership styles
and feedback behavior on employee creativity growth, considering the
mediating role of the communication mechanism among employees of
public clinics in Zanjan.

Materials and Methods: This applied study follows a descriptive-survey
approach. Data were collected through field observations, questionnaire
distribution, and library research related to the study variables. The
statistical population included all employees of public clinics in Zanjan. From
209 people, 135 were randomly selected as the sample based on Cochran's
formula. The questionnaires were distributed and completed by these
individuals. Data collected via questionnaires were analyzed using structural
equation modeling with PLS and SPSS software.

Results: Feedback behavior (coefficient = 0.256), leadership styles
(coefficient = 0.543), and the communication mechanism (coefficient =
0.126) significantly influenced employee creativity. Additionally, feedback
behavior (coefficient = 0.267) and leadership styles (coefficient = 0.348)
significantly impacted the communication mechanism. The results also
indicated that the communication mechanism effectively mediated the
relationship between leadership styles (coefficient = 0.044) and feedback
behavior (coefficient = 0.034) on employee creativity growth.

Conclusion: The findings suggest that leadership styles and feedback
behavior significantly influence employee creativity growth through the
mediating role of the communication mechanism. Organizational managers
should leverage these factors to enhance their employees' creativity

Abstract

Background and purpose: Political intelligence is critical for enhancing managerial performance and organizational productivity, while effective communication skills are essential for successful leadership. This study aims to examine the relationship between political intelligence and communication skills among managers and officials in teaching hospitals in Yazd City.
Methods: This descriptive, cross-sectional, and applied study was conducted on 65 hospital managers, selected via census. Two standardized questionnaires were employed to measure political intelligence and communication skills. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and analytical tests in SPSS version 26.
Results: The mean (±SD) score for political intelligence was (107.15±11.96), and for communication skills, it was (59.46±7.46)—both above average. No significant relationship was found between political intelligence scores and any demographic variables. However, a significant association was observed between overall communication skills and the gender variable (p=0.029). Spearman’s correlation analysis revealed a positive correlation between political intelligence and communication skills (r=0.527).
Conclusion: The findings underscore the importance of enhancing both political intelligence and communication skills among hospital managers. In particular, the lower scores in the sub-dimensions of social games (within political intelligence) and feedback skills (within communication skills) indicate a need for targeted improvement programs. These enhancements could contribute to better managerial performance and overall organizational effectiveness.
