Abstract

Background: Responsiveness is one of the main goals of the health system for policymakers and managers. Information Technology (IT) capabilities typically affect organization performance in cases like customer responsiveness and provide high standards of its business. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between information technology capabilities and the responsiveness of Baharlo hospital in Tehran.

Materials and Methods: This study was a descriptive-survey one in terms of method and an applied one in terms of purpose. Data collection tool was a questionnaire. A sample of 248 employees and 381 patients from 26 selected sections of Baharlo Hospital were selected randomly. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics such as Pearson correlation coefficient and regression analysis.

Results: According to study results, the overall hospital responsiveness rate was higher than the average (3.82) and the hospital's IT capacity was moderate (3.07). Based on regression analysis at 95% confidence level (error less than 5%), IT capabilities with IT architecture dimensions (p= 0.020), IT infrastructure (p =0.004), IT human resources (p < 0.0001) IT communication resources (p < 0.001) were positively correlated with the responsiveness of Baharlo Hospital.

Conclusion: The positive relationship between all aspects and the overall IT capability with the responsiveness of the illustrated hospital reveale that the capacity of information technology as well as other modern industries in hospitals is considered as a key competence. Therefore, it is obvious hospital managers should pay serious attention to upgrade this key competence to improve responsiveness in their hospital.

Abstract

Background and purpose: The Internet of Things (IoT) essentially refers to the connectivity of various objects through the internet to facilitate a more efficient and intelligent experience. However, due to the emerging nature of this technology in Iran, instances of its full deployment in service organizations, including hospitals, are rare or infrequent. Therefore, the aim of this study is to identify the key success factors for the deployment of IoT and assess the readiness for implementing this technology in Milad Hospital, Tehran.
Methods: This research is a descriptive-survey study conducted in two phases. In the first phase, 30 key success factors were identified through a review of previous studies. In the second, survey phase, 93 managers and staff members of Milad Hospital formed the statistical population, and data was collected through a researcher-made questionnaire. The comparison of the current and ideal states of success factors for IoT implementation, and their ranking, were done using the t-test and Friedman test in SPSS software.
Results: Based on this study, factors such as information technology, organizational culture, organizational structure, and human resources were identified as the most crucial for successful IoT deployment in the hospital. Additionally, the results showed that there is a significant gap between the hospital's current state and the desired state for IoT implementation in these identified areas.
Conclusion: Successful implementation of IoT requires enhancement in readiness, both in terms of technological and organizational-cultural infrastructures

Abstract

Background and purpose: In the current decade, the development of intellectual capital has emerged as a key driver for enhancing both individual and organizational performance. The deployment of electronic service desks can contribute significantly to this development, particularly in strengthening structural capital. This study aimed to examine the impact of implementing an electronic service desk on the structural capital of Tehran University of Medical Sciences during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Methods: This qualitative study employed a multi-case research approach. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with managers and experts in the domains of service desk operations and university education. Additional data were gathered by reviewing institutional documents and client feedback reports. Identified factors were subsequently validated through focus group discussions. Content analysis was used to analyze the data.
Results: The most prominent impact of the electronic service desk was improved management of client-related statistics and enhanced reporting capabilities to relevant authorities. Other significant effects included easier user access, the ability to refer documents to other departments or organizations, improved resolution of requests during initial user contact, and enhanced interactions with clients.
Conclusion: The electronic service desk played a vital role in sustaining and enhancing the quality of educational services during the pandemic, while aligning with public health protocols. Furthermore, it laid the foundation for managerial innovation within the university’s educational service delivery system.
