Abstract

Background: Organizational Citizenship Behavior indicates an individual cautious behavior that although is not known by formal organizational reward system directly, can have a positive and effective role on the organizational performance and lead to functional improvement. In this study the relationship between Organizational Citizenship Behavior and its determinant factors has been surveyed.

Materials & Method: This is  a cross- sectional study that was done on an accidental sample of 130 staff working in Shiraz University of  Medical Sciences (SUMS). The required data was gathered by using a questionnaire and descriptive statistics and person regression test were applied in significant level of 0.05.

 Results: Results showed that there were statistically positive significant differences   between OCB and organizational culture, personality and internal control focus (p<0.001) in contrast with the reversed and significant differences between OCB and job stress (p<0.001).In addition there were statistically positive significant differences   between various dimensions of OCB with each other (p<0.001). furthermore , between courtesy  and organizational culture, control focus and personality, citizenship behavior and organizational culture, sacrifice with culture and personality and between conscience and culture, the statistically positive significant differences   were observed in spite of the statistically negative significant differences between courtesy, citizenship behavior,  conscience with job stress and also between  conscience and personality(p<0.05).

Conclusion: reducing job stress , existing organizational justice and the group oriented organizational culture and also staff` characteristics the same as personality , control focus, etc can have an effective role on the incidence rate of Organizational Citizenship Behavior shown by staff in Shiraz University of  Medical Sciences . So attention to each of these dimensions and key factors and attempts for amplifying and supporting them by managers can develop these behaviors and lead to functional improvement in the organizations.

Abstract

Background: One of the behaviors taken into consideration in organizations such as hospitals is organizational citizenship behavior. Recent studies have shown that organization employees show interest in organizational citizenship behavior and this subject may be influenced by demographic specifications.This study aims to determine the relationship between organizational citizenship behavior and demographic specification (gender, age, marital status, educational qualifications, salary&wage ,ethnicity,employment type, work type, organizational post, place of employment and work experience) among selected hospitals employees of selected hospitals of Tehran and Shahid Beheshti Medical Sciencesis Universities. Materials and Methods: This research has been implemented in six selected Hospitals of Tehran and Shahid Beheshti Medical Sciencesis Universities and data was collected by distributing a questionnaire among 429 employees of these hospitals using a two-stages random sampling method.The research methodology has been cross-sectional- descriptive using field study. In order to accept or reject the research hypothesis kruskal-wallis and mann-whitneyU tests have been used. Results: Results showed that, the most studied demographic characteristics have an effect on organizational citizenship behavior of the staff of selected hospitals employees in Tehran and Shahid Beheshti Universities of Medical Sciences. Conclusion: Findings of this research indicated that men have shown more organizational citizenship behavior compared to women, Married people have shown higher organizational citizenship behavior compared to single and divorced people and people in the age class of 50 to 54 years have been the highest organizational citizenship behavior average. In addition to, people with master degree, have been the highest organizational citizenship behavior. Also our findings show that Ethnicity does not have effect on the incidence of organizational citizenship behavior.

Abstract

Background: One of the main concerns of managers is work deviant behaviors of employees. Workplace deviance is voluntary behavior that violates significant norms and in so doing threatens the well-being of an organization, its members or both. The study aimed to explore the relationship between emotional intelligence and organizational citizenship behavior with work deviant behaviors.
 
Materials and Methods: This study was a cross-sectional descriptive analytical one. This study was conducted on 290 employees (administrative workers and nurses) working in four selected hospitals in Tehran city including Shahid Motahati, Shahid Rajaii, Hazrat-E-Rasol, and Dr. Shariati. Sampling method was stratified random sampling method. Data collection instruments were three questionnaires including Schutte’s emotional intelligence, Padsakof organizational citizenship behavior, Bennett and Robinson’s work deviant behavior. Validity and reliability of the questionnaires has already been verified in studies before. Data analysis was performed using independent T-test, ANOVA, Tukey and parametric Pearson's Correlation Coefficient.
 
Results: Among demographic and organizational variables, There was a significant relationship between age and work deviant behavior (P=0.012). Reverse significant statistical relationship between emotional intelligence, organizational citizenship behavior and courtesy with work deviant behavior was observed (P=0.0001).
 
Conclusion: The study results revealed that personnel with higher emotional intelligence will have a more positive attitude and more allegiance and commitment toward the organization; therefore they will show more organizational citizenship behavior and less inclined to abuse in the workplace.
