Abstract
Introduction: Heat-related illnesses are major causes of morbidity in the world. Workers who are exposed to extreme heat are not be able to activate their compensatory mechanisms and their health will consequently be at risk. Heat stress due to its impact on work performance increases the likelihood of worker disease and injuries and it also affect productivity. During sugar beet harvest, farmers from about 8 am to 4 pm, are exposed to sunlight and excessive heat. Therefore, preventive measures are essential in order to protect the health of farmers and improve productivity. The aim of this project as to study the effectiveness of the rehydration to reduce heat stress and increasing productivity during sugar beet harvest, conducted in 2012.

Material and Method: in this project, 20 farmers from sugar beet farmers were studied during summer season, from 8 am to 4 pm in West Azarbaijan- Boukan city where the average temperature and relative humidity were 29.85 0C and 41%, respectively during sugar beet harvest. Selection criteria were defined as working more than 50% of the day’s working schedule and to have worked for at least 10 days of the follow-up period. Individual characteristics and water consumption rate during the work shift and also Production output data by farmers were recorded at the end of the working day. Environmental parameters using a portable monitoring device was measured and recorded and finally, the collected data was used for analysis using spss software version 20.

Results: WBGT-TWA index for four the period of the time from morning to afternoon obtained 27.39 0C, as it was greater than the allowable thresholds. Ten workers receive 6-7 L of liquid and harvest production was significantly increased among those who are better hydrated (P=0.005), from 5 to 7 tons of harvest sugar beet per any worker per day, against lower 5 tons for farmers without drinking enough water.

Conclusion: Farmers productivity can be increased by applying rehydration measures during work.

Abstract
Introduction: Neighborhood environment plays an important role in the health of residents. This study was conducted to assess health, safety and environment (HSE) in poor and rich vicinities in order to improve health levels of the neighborhoods, using Community-Based Intervention (CBI) approach.

Material and Method: In the present field study, HSE variables were assessed by a checklist (NHSES) through observation, interviews with neighborhood residents as well as document review.Of the 374 vicinities in Tehran, ten regions were selected through cluster sampling. The Control Chart approach was used in order to compare the field data and the possibility of decision-making about the neighborhoods.

Results: Overall, results showed that status of health, safety and environment in both rich and poor neighborhoods in Tehran was in the warning level.

Conclusion: The CBI is an appropriate model for empowerment of neighborhoodsin a way that promote HSE status.

Abstract
Introduction: In recent years, a growing attention has been paid to assess the physical characteristics of rich and poor urban districts to understand social health differences. Urban districts environment play a major role in health of the residents. Previous few studies have considered some aspects of limited neighborhood environment. The current study was designed to investigate the reliability of the Neighborhood Health, Safety and Environment (NHSE) tool in one of Tehran city neighborhoods.
Material and Method: Dimensions and related items of the NHSE were extracted based on the previous studies and interviews with city experts. Five observers completed the NHSE in a selected neighborhood in order to test inter and intra-rater reliability of the tool. Data analysis was done using the Cronbach’s alpha, Interclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC) and kappa coefficient.
Result: The ICC and Cronbach’s alpha were estimated 0.86 for all dimensions of the NHSE. The calculated kappa values were in the range of 57%-66% for inter-rater reliability and 0.47-0.62 for intra-rater reliability.
Conclusion: The NHSE tool was shown to have a desirable inter and intra-rater reliability and a good level of internal consistency for assessing the health, safety, and environment (HSE) of the neighborhoods.

Abstract
Introduction: Metro driving is one of the newest jobs in Iran. There are few studies in this field. Therefore, the physical workload and their influencing factors have not been identified in metro driving. The objective of this study was task and physical workload analysis of metro driving to recommend control measures.
Material and Method: In this mixed method study, task analysis and Quick Exposure Check (QEC) were used to assessment of physical workload in metro driving. Different methods and techniques including field investigation, document reviews, individual and focus group interviews, and focus group discussions were used to analysis physical workload to recommend control measures.
Result: Whole body exposure with physical workload was assessed unacceptable in metro driving. Although the exposures in back, shoulder/arm and hand/wrist were under threshold 70%, neck exposure lead to over physical workload in the whole body. Many themes include unsupported body; non-sufficient view on the track and on displays; awkward posture and unsuitable layout were extracted as significant factors influencing on physical workload.
Conclusion: An intervention plan was recommended to a) support body by chair, platform and footplate; b) optimize a sufficient view on the track and on displays; c) maintain body postures in seating position with easy reaching distance and sufficient view; and d) design a suitable layout for driving panel regarding to controls, keys and displays.

Abstract
Introduction: Teaching has been reported stressful. Although, the majority of teachers aren’t anxious or unmotivated and they even consider their job valuable and satisfying. Job demands-resources (JD-R) is a comprehensive model in occupational stress domain that simultaneously examines the stressful and motivational aspects of occupations and their related outcomes. Accordingly, the objective of this paper is to investigate job characteristics of teaching (job demands and job resources) and their subsequent outcomes by utilizing proposed model.
Material and Method: This study was a cross-sectional design among 247 high school teachers in Tehran city who were selected by two-stage cluster sampling in spring and summer of 1391. Three aspects of job demands (pupil misbehavior, work-family conflict, and cognitive demand), 2 aspects of job resources (supervisory support and job condition), emotional exhaustion, vigor, teacher’s illness symptoms, and organizational commitment were assessed using job demands-resources model. The data were analyzed by means of SPSS 21 program and path analysis by using AMOS 23 program.
Result: According to the results, model fit indices were in acceptable range and all the coefficient paths were significant (p<0.001). Considering model, Job demands were a better predictor for emotional exhaustion (β=0.3) than job resources (β=0.2). However, they had an equal but opposite impact on vigor (β=±0.27). Moreover, we observed partial mediation relationships between job demands and illness symptoms and job resources and organizational commitment via emotional exhaustion and vigor respectively.
Conclusion: Based on the findings, fostering initiatives with priorities of firstly regulating job demands and secondly improving job resources can be effective strategies to reduce job related burnout and promoting job engagement, health and organizational commitment of teachers

Abstract
Introduction: Correspondence analysis method and preparation of accidents and occupational hazards pattern is able to predict and anticipate accidents and is automatically prioritize the risks and injuries. The aim of this study was to present accidents and occupational hazards pattern based on risk-injury groups, which use it to manage of occupational accidents.
Material and Method: The report of occupational accidents, registered in the social security organization was collected in a period of ten years from 2005 to 2015 (222,300 accidents). Types of risk and injuries to any of the accidents specified based on International Labor Organization criteria and risk of injury were classified in a matrix (18 × 18). Risk-injury groups were separately identified using correspondence analysis and collapse process, as patterns of accidents and occupational hazards. In the mentioned patterns, the relationship between risks and damage can be identified, as it facilitates decision-making in risk assessment in companies covered by the social security organization.
Result: According to the findings, three groups of occupational accidents were obtained and variables of these three groups extracted from the obtained patterns. The first group included six risks and seven injuries that the risks variables were: contact with hot materials, accidents caused by caustic and corrosive substances, contact with chemicals, accidents caused by toxic substances, contact with electrical equipment, explosion and fire, and injuries were: burns, other injuries, multiple injuries, gas poisoning, suffocation, poisoning, environmental hazards. The second group included seven risks and six injuries that the risks variables were: accidents caused by displacement, projections of fragments or particles, accidents caused by machine tools, slipping, falling people, falling objects, other accidents and injuries were: twists and sprains, dipping the objects in the body, objects in the eyes, cuts and amputations, superficial wounds, deep wounds. Finally, the third group included five risks and five injuries that risks variables were: Falling under the rubble, accident with vehicle, accidents caused by displacement, colliding of persons against objects, projections of fragments or particles, accidents caused by manual tools, trapped between objects, accidents caused by machine tools and injuries were: fractures, dislocation, back pain, hitting, contusions and crushing. It should be noted that the study of these patterns can be used to identify and prioritize of occupational accidents.
Conclusion: The proposed groups make new opportunities for development of the applications to analyze, interpret and automate management of occupational accidents in order to minimize uncertainty and increase its objectivity. Its advantage over other similar analyses can be considering both the risks and injury and to obtain groups of two variables. Due to the frequency and distribution of mass of risk and injury variables in the groups, the risk and injury variables of group 3 are the most important, and the risk and injury variables of group 2 are less important and the risk and injury variables of group 1 have the least importance.

Abstract
Introduction: Driving a train is one of the high demand job due to high vigilance task requiring the ability to long periods monitor surrounding environment and recognizing signals. The aim of this study was to assess train drivers’ mental workload using heart rate (HR) and heart rate variability (HRV) indices.
Material and Method: An experimental design was conducted among 12 well-trained subjects to induce two different levels of mental demands in a metro simulator and to monitor mental workload levels while driving the train. The HR and HRV parameters were recorded and analysis using ECG signals.
Result: The HRV parameters including SDNNIX (p-value=0.01), RMSSD (p-value=0.00), %PNN50 (p-value=0.01), SDNN (p-value=0.07) and LF/HF Ratio (p-value=0.04) were significantly reduced in a normal operation task comparing to the abnormal one.
Conclusion: The HR and HRV (SDNN, SDNNIX, RMSSD, %PNN50 and LF/HF Ratio) were found to be sensitive to mental workload in metro train driving .It is recommended to include the HRV parameters for mental workload assessment of train drivers.

Abstract
Introduction: Nowadays, air pollution is now considered to be the largest environmental health threat. This study was conducted with the aim of determining occupational exposure to chemical pollutants, including sulfur dioxide (SO2) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and assessing the health risk of exposure to these compounds using a combination of AERMOD and SQRA methods.
Material and Methods: The present study is considered as a descriptive-analytical and cross-sectional research, which was conducted in 2002 in one of the gas air refineries of South Pars in the Persian Gulf region, in such a way that the amount of emissions coming out of refinery chimneys was measured by the Testo 350- XL. AERMOD model was used to simulate the dispersion of H2S and SO2 chemical pollutants. Respiratory exposure and health risk assessment of refinery personnel and nearby residents were performed using the recommended method by the Singapore Occupational Health Services Pte Ltd.
Results: Hydrogen sulfide and sulfur dioxide were introduced as the most dangerous chemicals. According to the results, the highest risk value for sulfur dioxide among the exposure groups was related to the sulfur recovery unit (SRU), the west side of the Train Gas unit and the gate pass building of the refinery, and the highest risk values for sulfur dioxide among the exposure groups were related to the HSE building, security door, fire stations building, tanks, steam generating unit, west side of Train Gas unit, dining hall and gate pass building of the refinery. Hydrogen sulfide obtained a low to medium risk level, and sulfur dioxide a low to high risk level in terms of frequency.
Conclusion: This model can be considered as a suitable and quick solution in the superior management of the concentration of pollutants and also a promising solution in order to increase the ability of decision makers to assess the health risk of industries’ personnel. Also, ensuring quality monitoring results and reducing sampling costs are discussed.

Abstract
Introduction: Strategic management involves determining the organization’s direction, preparing a strategic vision and mission statement, and providing the basis for growth, profitability, and production. It also includes the inclusion of employee safety and health programs throughout the organization. The existence of a strategic plan for the scientific and practical strengthening of occupational health and safety is one of the country’s academic and industrial priorities. The purpose of this study is to present a strategic plan for developing the specialized field of occupational health and safety engineering in Iran.
Material and Methods: The current study is a collaborative action research study that was conducted in 2021. The strategic planning committee consisted of 20 professors, experts, and doctoral students. Over the course of 14 weeks, they held regular weekly meetings, collected information from inside and outside the organization, analyzed the organization’s internal and external environment, and identified its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Based on this analysis, the committee determined the organization’s mission, perspective, values, and general and specific goals for 2021-2024. They also identified the necessary measures to achieve these goals and developed an operational plan to improve the performance of the specialized field of occupational health and safety.
Results: Conducting this applied research led to the strategy of internal and external analysis of the specialized OHS field, determining the direction of the basic strategy, mission, perspective, values, and general goals. Finally, seven specific goals and 286 actions were determined to improve the performance of OHS. The SWOT analysis of OHS’s internal and external environment identified 27 strengths, seven weaknesses, 26 opportunities, and 12 threats. According to the results of the SWOT matrix, the strategic position of the OHS field is to implement preventive strategies and maintain existing conditions.
Conclusion: This plan aligns with the 4-year OHS plan. In developing the program, attention has been paid to the documents and policies of upstream organizations. The strategic position of occupational health and safety engineering is a prudent strategy. In this situation, strategies for maintaining existing conditions can be applied. Therefore, it is suggested to reduce the weaknesses of OHS as much as possible and increase its strategic capabilities by focusing on prudent strategies. From the second year of implementing the strategic plan, the OHS field can gradually focus on developing activities.

Abstract
Introduction: Medical centers, as complex technical-social systems, are exposed to the risk of fire incidents. This study analyzes the causes and contributing factors of the fire accident at Sina Mehr Clinic to prevent similar accidents, resulting in 19 deaths and 14 injuries.
Material and Methods: The causes and contributing factors for accidents in medical centers are found through studies related to laws and regulations, official accident reports, expert reports of regulatory bodies, interviews with experts, and review of past studies, extraction, and categorization. Accident analysis methods included AcciMap and STAMP. Finally, experts’ opinions were used to confirm and strengthen the findings.
Results: The most critical root and hierarchical causes of the weakness of medical center management in the field of safety, dangerous conditions, fire accidents, and emergency response are the issuance of a legal building completion permit for a building that violates national building regulations and the issuance of a legal permit for a medical institution for a building with residential use, as well as the insufficiency of supervision by government and public institutions with horizontal relationships with each other and vertical relationships with universities of medical sciences, labor offices, and firefighting organizations, as the direct supervisors of medical centers.
Conclusion: The AcciMap and STAMP findings indicate that the priority is to amend the regulations for the establishment, operation, and activity of medical centers with an emphasis on safety regulations, as well as the frequency and shortening of feedback loops such as inquiring about the building completion permit from the municipality, announcing the establishment of a medical center to other governmental and public supervisory authorities, and the reporting of unsafe cases directly by supervisors to the Ministry of Health. Legal authorities are the most crucial cycle in the resilience of fire incidents and their consequences in medical centers.

Abstract
Introduction: One of the questions that always arises in the minds of researchers, especially young researchers, is what pattern the progress of science follows in their field of expertise and what is the direction of the studies. The purpose of this study is to analyze the content of the studies published from 2011 to 2022 in Persian scientific journals in the field of workplace safety and determine the direction and scientific process of studies in this field.
Material and Methods: All the studies published from the years 2011 to 2022 in the Persian scientific research journals ”Iran Occupational Health”, “Occupational Health and Safety”, “Occupational Health Engineering”, ”Iranian Journal of Ergonomics”, “Occupational Medicine” and “Occupational Health and Health Promotion” were gathered using census method from the websites of the journals. In total, 595 published articles were categorized according to the thematic codes determined by the opinion of experts, the theme of “risk analysis, assessment, and risk management” had the highest percentage of frequency (18.66 percent), while the theme of “safety application in other industries or specific workplaces” had the lowest frequency of percentage (0.34 percent). Approximately 50 percent of the variance of the published studies explained the themes of “risk analysis, risk assessment, and management”, “inspection, analysis and modeling of accidents”, “human error and safety”, “social, organizational factors, culture, safety climate, and behavior-based safety”.
Conclusion: The existing trends emphasize the importance of learning lessons from accidents as a reactive approach and risk management, human factors, and behavioral aspects in safety interventions as a preventive approach. The research development of the country’s safety at the workplace should be further improved with new policies in different fields while taking advantage of international scientific advances on the specific functions and challenges of the country and with a problem-oriented approach.

Abstract
Introduction: Despite advancements in road safety and vehicle design, road accidents remain prevalent, a quarter of which are caused by driver distraction. This issue is particularly critical in the public transport sector, especially among urban bus drivers, as distraction can lead to serious injuries and fatalities. Accordingly, this study explored the factors influencing distraction among urban bus drivers through a qualitative approach and a macroergonomics perspective.
Material and Methods: In this study conducted in 2024 in Tehran, 18 urban bus drivers were selected through cluster sampling. The participants included 10 drivers from bus rapid transit (BRT) system and 8 drivers from non-BRT services. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with the drivers as well as on-site observations. Subsequently, a directed qualitative content analysis approach, based on the balance theory model, was used to analyze the collected data.
Results: The findings revealed that the primary sources of distraction belonged to six levels of the work system, the most cited of which were environment, tasks, and organization. Specifically, inappropriate behavior of other street users as an environmental factor and the driver’s interactions with passengers as task-related factors were identified as key sources. Additionally, organizational factors such as interactions with supervisors and colleagues, as well as salary issues, were significantly important. The participants very limitedly expressed using mobile phone while driving as a main distractor to their driving.
Conclusion: The current study identified various influential factors, spanning different levels of the work system, affecting bus drivers’ distraction, including generic factors that impact all urban drivers and specific factors that uniquely affect bus drivers. Addressing these factors through providing appropriate education for both passengers and street users along with implementing management strategies in the organization to enhance intra-organizational relationships and organizational support can lead to the safety of the bus drivers.

Abstract
Introduction: Scientometrics is a research field that examines and analyzes scientific trends and patterns in various scientific journals. This study aims to analyze the content of research published between 2011 and 2022 in Persian scientific journals focusing on ergonomics, to identify trends and the scientific direction in the field.
Material and Methods: This study collected all articles published from 2011 to 2022 in Persian journals, including “Occupational Health,” “Occupational Health and Safety,” “Occupational Health Engineering,” “Iranian Journal of Ergonomics,” “Occupational Medicine,” and “Occupational Hygiene and Health Promotion,” using a census method from the journals’ websites. 368 articles were categorized based on thematic codes developed by experts, and data were analyzed using Excel 2010.
Results: The theme “Physiological Status and Occupational Factors” had the highest frequency (17.65%), while “Ergonomics in Small Workplaces and Services” had the lowest (0%). Approximately 55% of the published studies were centered around themes including “Physiological Status and Occupational Factors,” “Ergonomics Methodology, Methods and Techniques,” “Inspection, Monitoring, and Evaluation of Performance,” and “Characteristics of Physiology and Cognitive Processes.” The research focus in ergonomics tends to prioritize methodology and innovation over the practical application, emphasizing industrial needs over those in services and agriculture, and favoring large workplaces over small or construction sites.
Conclusion: The thematic framework and publication patterns can serve as valuable sources of information for educational and research planning within the field of ergonomics for universities, research centers, and related organizations; it can contribute to the scientific advancement of the field and lead to its overall improvement.

Abstract
Introduction: This study aimed to profile Iran's occupational health services and identify the challenges and implementation strategies, with a focus on the coverage of these services and interventions.
Methods: This mixed-method research utilized a triangulation approach to generate qualitative data through document reviews from international organizations such as the WHO and ILO, examination of national occupational health systems, laws and regulations, previous studies, and interviews. Quantitative data were collected from a national portal using a standard inspection checklist and secondary data from the National Statistics Center. Qualitative data were analyzed using both inductive and deductive content analysis, while quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics.
Results: The occupational health services profile for Iran was developed, comprising 45 indicators across 9 areas and 6 types. The coverage levels for inspection services were 93% for covered workplaces, 39% for all existing workplaces, 92% for covered workplaces, and 15% for all existing workers. Among covered workplaces, access to full health facilities was at 48%, while occupational exposure control was at 18%. For covered workers, the coverage rates for occupational examinations, health training, and use of personal protective equipment were 58%, 62%, and 66%, respectively.
Conclusion: The key intervention for improving service coverage and stability—aside from inspections, which are governed—lies in outsourcing services to various providers. This approach involves removing existing barriers and enhancing service provision for small workshops. Additionally, redesigning occupational health services should focus on modifying educational curricula, research, and implementation programs, emphasizing the economic aspects of controls, prioritizing low-cost and effective measures, especially in small workplaces.
