Abstract

Background and Aim: Heterogeneous insertion of Organizational affiliations can cause loss of ranking points in the national and international levels. So, we decided to investigate the different affiliations of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in scientific publications that indexed in Web of Science and their effect on the result of research activities evaluation in the year 2012.
Materials and Methods: Methodology of this study is bibliometric approach with descriptive survey. The study included 1139 scientific production of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences that indexed in Web of Science in the first one in April 2011 to April 2012. 
Results: 1139 articles indexed in the Web of Science, 94/38% in the evaluation of the research activities of the ministry of health have been scored and 5/61% failed. Among the unsuccessful papers 1/01%, had been inserted affiliation incorrectly. One-sample t-test showed that the mean score of 1/01% has no significant statistical impact on the total average rating of products indexed in Web of Science.
Conclusion: Investigation showed that standard insertion of affiliation has impact on enterprise University Ranked and University status at the international level.

Abstract

Background and Aim: As a new educational innovation, "MOOC" refers to Massive Open Online Course which provide the chance of training for the public. Regarding the importance of MOOC production for improving health literacy knowledge in the medical field, the purpose of the present study was to comparatively investigate the MOOC presented on the Maktab Khaneh website based on quadruple indexes focusing on the field of medicine, determining and explaining it.
Materials and Methods: This study was descriptive and an applied research, which has been conducted in January 2016. Statistical population was all of the educational course presented by the Maktab Khaneh website. Data were collected using direct observation of the Maktab Khaneh website and courses was studied according to quadruple indexes of MOOC, universities cooperation and the education field. The collected data was analyzed after being entered into the statistical software Excel using descriptive statistics.
Results: Based on obtaining data, courses presented by the Maktab Khaneh website were Massive, Open, Online, But some of them were the Courses. Major cooperation was from Sharif University of Technology, Khan Academy, and then Tehran University. Whereas, cooperation of other universities was low. 
Conclusion: Despite the necessity of MOOC production in the medical field, MOOC production rate in the medical filed was very low. Faculty members of different universities and institutes are suggested to exploit this new educational innovation and take effective actions for introducing MOOC.

Abstract

Background and Aim: By conducting cloud computing and using cloud library, better library's services were prepared for universities’ libraries. The present research aims to determine the possibility of conducting cloud computing in Medical Sciences Universities’ libraries in Tehran from the librarian's perspective.
Materials and Methods: This was a descriptive, cross sectional study. A questionnaire survey was used for the collection of data. Face and content validity of the questionnaire has been examined by librarian experts, and also Cronbach’s Alpha Coefficient (0.77) was used for confirmation of reliability. Questionnaires were mailed to 42 selected library professionals, and a total of 40 libraries filled out the questionnaires. The results were analyzed by SPSS software and calculating independent t-test, binomial and chi-square test.
Results: In the present study, the result showed that the mean of librarians skills for management viewpoint (22.5), the specialist personnel (19.6), the librarian attitudes toward security issues associated with cloud computing (13.15), and situation infrastructures (18.13) were significantly meaningful in all of the cases. Also budgeting and availability of electronic services were found to be the least significant. With comparing the requirements of conducting cloud computing and library features by Chi-square test, 80.7 vs. 19/3 respectively showed that libraries have good position.
Conclusion: It was found that the cloud computing by using different technological advantages is a solution for providing better and quicker services with lower prices where budgets are limited and facilities are inadequate in Tehran's medical sciences universities’ libraries.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Research in the medical field requires large budgets, specialist human resources and modern equipment and instruments. Scientific collaboration is a way to overcome such problems. Main goal of this study was analyzing scientific collaboration of universities of medical sciences in different aspects.
Materials and Methods: In this research, by using scientometrics methods and social network analysis techniques, the Universities of Medical Sciences co-authorship network was mapped. Source of collecting Data, was Web Of Science database. For mapping and analyzing of scientific networks, we used Bibexcel, VOSviewer, Pajek and UCINET software.
Results: Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences and Tehran University of Medical Sciences, with 933 co-authorship papers are in the first place in scientific collaboration among Iranian Universities of Medical Sciences. And at the international level, Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences has more scientific collaboration than other Iranian universities with the University of Malaya. Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, Isfahan University of Medical Sciences, Tabriz University of Medical Sciences and Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, have significant position in terms of centrality index in co-authorship network.
Conclusion: Medical sciences researchers have very strong tendency to make scientific collaboration with Tehran University of Medical Sciences researchers. For this reason, scientific collaboration network has become a monopoly network around Tehran University of Medical Sciences. This form of collaboration prevents creation of opportunities for collaboration.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Today journals are one of the main platforms to exchange information between researchers. This study aimed to assess the status of Approved Latin indexing journals in the field of medical science citation indexes Web of Science and Scopus databases.
Materials and Methods: This study was a cross-sectional descriptive survey. Statistical population of the study was 83 titles Latin journals approved by the Ministry of Health that examined indexing situation of them in Web of science and Scopus databases between the years 2005-2010. Data collection tool was a controlled checklist that was established by consult with experts and specialists in related areas and its reliability was estimated 90 percent. Data were analyzed using the software spss16.
Results: Survey the status of journals showed that slightly less than 26 percent of titles indexed in Web of Science. Also in Scopus Citation Index 69 percent of journals was indexed. Compare criteria for indexing journals in Web of Science and Scopus database show that bibliography information of not indexed journals considered and in some journals (29/30 percent) number of international standards were not mentioned. Also, some journals contact information (postcode publication 9 percent) was not included.
Conclusion: In general, it was observed that despite the enormous growth of scientific journals between examined years, terms of adaption with the criteria of indexing are in unfavorable condition and managers of Latin scientific journals should try to improve their quality and quantity.

Abstract

Background and Aim: The application of information technology for the delivery of library services through websites has removed many temporal and spatial limitations. This study aimed to identify the available services and resources on the websites of central libraries at universities of medical sciences in Iran. 
Materials & Methods: The population of this descriptive study comprised 36 central-library websites of medical universities in Iran. A researcher-made checklist was used to collect data, which were then analyzed through descriptive statistics using SPSS 18. 
Results: According to the findings, “electronic mail”, “access to services via mobile” and “how-to-use-a-library instructions” were mentioned as modern technologies in 83.3%, 2.8% and 77.8% of websites, respectively. However, nothing was found on “e-learning copyright”. Concerning librarianship and library publications, 69.4% of websites included “new library sources and references”.
Conclusion: Considering the daily development of information technology, it is essential to regularly revise library websites and employ new technologies to enhance them.

Abstract

Background and Aim: In the recent years the number of science research health journals has increased in Iran. These journals should be based on the standards and criteria required in international indexing database. The aim of this study was to determine the adaptation rate of structural requirements on the Iranian medical journals with the criteria of indexing based on Scopus indexing database.     
Materials and Methods: This study was a descriptive-applied study done using bibliometric methods. The statistical population was all of the science research journals in health ministry on 2014. The data collection tool was the inventory control extracted from Scopus database. The data was collected and analyzed by SPSS20 software and descriptive statistics methods.
Results: The results showed that more than half of the biomedical journals were not based on the international editing statements and also, participation of the members of international editing committee was very low. The mean of international editing committee members was 83.3% and all of them were in Iran besides, participation of non Iranian authors was very low in these journals, with a participation rate of only 5.79%.
Conclusion: The Iranian medical journals did not follow the expected criteria in Scopus indexing database in a satisfaction level. Adaptation to the expected criteria can facilitate the entering and indexing procedures for these health journals in Scopus indexing database.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Creating personal information collections will bring the management needs. The purpose of this study was to determine the use level of personal information management and each of its four activities by Faculty members of Allied Medical Sciences Schools in Tehran, Shahid Beheshti and Iran Medical Sciences Universities in 2014 year.
Materials and Method: This applied study was an analytical survey. The participants of the study were Faculty members of Allied Medical Sciences Schools in Tehran, Shahid Beheshti and Iran Medical Sciences Universities. All participants (120) were studied. PIM was surveyed by using a questionnaire. Descriptive statistics were used for data analysis. In order to determine the significant differences, analytical statistics were applied. The validity was confirmed by the number of professors feedback and reliability calculated by the Cronbach's alpha 0.91.
Results: Storage with average of 73.59% and organization with average of 62.11% were at "good" level. Maintenance with an average of 54.4% and refind with an average of 59.93% were at "medial" level. "Personal information management" with an average of 62.51% was at "good" level. According to the research hypotheses test, the use of personal information management and each of its elements by members of the community in terms of university, academic rank and gender were not statistically significant.
Conclusion: Usage level of personal information management by faculty members is far from ideal situation. The main reasons can be included not having enough time, working pressure and lack of sufficient acquaintance with the activities required to personal information management.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Indexing a country's scientific journals in international citation databases can lead to the promotion of its academic status and its participation in global knowledge production. This study aimed to assess the conformity of Iranian English-language medical journals’ citations with the objective criteria of journals in the selected databases.
Materials and Methods: This was a descriptive, evaluative research. The study population included 52 Iranian English-language medical journals that are not indexed in Web of Science, PubMed and Scopus databases and 465 articles in these issues, and about 11235 citations to the articles. The data have been collected by a checklist. For data analysis, Excel software was used.
Results: Some 88.5 percent of journals had a style for writing references; a style that has been observed by most of them. The rate of self-citation was low. Only 2.9 percent of citations were done in the year this study was performed. Journals with 87.2 percent had received the highest number of citations. The old citation time and the imbalance in the types of cited resources were the most important reasons of the weakness of the studied journals and of their not being indexed in the mentioned databases. 
Conclusion: Providing valid styles for writing references and controlling the citations accurately should be put on the agenda of journals. The time of references must be newer, and there should be a relative balance in the types of referenced sources.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Periodic assessment of medical sciences databases is a necessary principle of the process of enhancement these databases. The aim of this study was to Comparatively evaluate structural features of medical bibliographic databases including MedLib, Barakat knowledge network system, Irandoc, SID, Magiran and  PubMed, based on Gulliver criteria.
Materials and Methods: This survey was carried out in accordance with Gulliver's assessment checklist 2002. This checklist consists of 12 sections including entry page, searching, limiting, record viewing and manipulating, graphics, record retrieval, selective dissemination of information services, general design, terminology, icon design and placement, help and advanced features. The study was conducted on five national databases and one foreign database.
Results: Among the databases, PubMed gained the first ranking with a score of 89.16 percent. Among the national databases, new SID database with a score of 57.5 percent gained the top rank. Other databases including Irandoc (56.25%), Magiran (54.58 %), Barkat knowledge network system (52.91 %), MedLib (51.25%) and old SID (47.5 %) obtained next ranking respectively.
Conclusion: Despite improvements indices in updated national databases, many of the indicators are far from prestigious databases such as PubMed. It is recommended that in development of national databases, features such as search, help, SDI, entry page, advanced features and record retrieval should be considered.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Technical videos and images are of great importance in learning different topics of medical sciences. This study is conducted to determine the effect of videos and images in learning from students’ point of view and also their problems in accessing them.
Materials and Methods: This is a survey study. Data were collected by a self-made questionnaire and the population included postgraduate students of Qazvin University of Medical Sciences in the first semester of 94-95.
Results: More than half of the students stated that images and videos have an average or more-than-average effect on their learning achievements. There is no significant relationship between students’ fields of study and their feeling the need for specialized images and videos. To get advice, they refer more to their professors or classmates than to librarians. A large number of responding students had not heard even the names of specialized image-and-video databases or they had never used them before. Low-speed internet and filtering of sites are the most important factors in students’ failure to access their required images and videos while students themselves have ranked ‘unfamiliarity with specialized databases’ as the fourth important factor.
Conclusion: The students know the importance of images and videos in learning achievements, but since they don’t know the professional databases and don’t have an appropriate interaction with librarians, they resort to general search-engines and, as a result, they face with blocked sites and are deprived from what they really want.

Abstract

Background and Aim: In each organization, there is a debate about the use of IT. Human development is one of the factors influencing the efficiency and success of any organization. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of information technology on empowerment of staff working in Tehran University of Medical Sciences.
Materials and Methods: This study was descriptive-survey research and applied in terms of purpose. A total of 274 staff members from the Tehran University of Medical Sciences were surveyed by sampling according to the Krejcie-Morgan table from among 950 employees. The tools used in the Ardalan questionnaire were divided into two parts of IT, including 10 questions and a staff empowerment questionnaire containing 23 questions. Data were analyzed by SPSS 13 software, Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and one-sample T-test.
Results: The research findings showed that the use of information technology on five dimensions of job empowerment including competency, improvement of quality of work, increased decision-making power, increasing self-control, and reducing job stress have a significant effect.
Conclusion: The most important task of managers of universities is to improve the ability and job satisfaction of employees, holding in-service training courses in the field of computers and the Internet and encouraging employees to use more computers in their related activities.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Ergonomics is the science of refining and optimizing the working environment, occupation and equipment, and matching it with human capabilities and limitations. The purpose of this study was to compare the working environment conditions of the library staff with Ergonomic Principles in selected Universities of Medical Sciences in Tehran in 2016.
Materials and Methods: This is a descriptive and cross-sectional study. The population of this study included all faculty librarians of selected Medical Sciences Universities in Tehran. This study was conducted by census method and all population members (n=85) were studied. The data collection tools were ergonomic checklist in the library environment and a researcher-made questionnaire on the educational status of ergonomic principles. The data were analyzed by SPSS software version 22 after they were collected and entered into the computer.
Results: Based on the obtained findings, it became clear that the status of variables such as body conditions, work space, equipment and environmental conditions was average in terms of ergonomic principles and health variables, and safety factors and welfare facilities were at an undesirable level. In each of the variables of body condition, work space, equipment and safety factors among the libraries of selected Universities, ergonomic conditions did not have significant differences. 
Conclusion: According to the results of this study, it can be concluded that the conditions of the librarians’ working environment in the studied community were not favorable in terms of ergonomic conditions.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Scientific journals are known as one of the basic tools in knowledge development in today's world and have a special place in publication of the newest achievements of human knowledge and science. This study aimed to evaluate Iranian journals of medical sciences in Scopus database and determine their level in the world.
Materials and Methods: This is an analytical-descriptive study with Scientometrics approach. The research population includes all Iranian journals in the field of medicine which are indexed in Scopus database until 2016. We used SPSS and Excel software to analyze data and NodeXL to draw shapes and pictures.
Results: The findings show that the number of Iranian journals increased from 2 in 1999 to 78 in 2015. Also, 15 cities and 29 centers and universities have played a role in publishing those journals. Meanwhile, the findings show that Iranian indexed journals are at a lower level compared with those of the developed and industrial countries.
Conclusion: The most important reasons for Iranian journals' growth were "the policy of Scopus to increase scientific journals", "observance of standards and compliance with international fashion and standards of medical journals”, and the like. We concluded that Iranian journals compared with those of other countries are not at a good quality position and that it is essential to have an appropriate policy by the Ministry of Health and its subordinate Universities.

Abstract

Background and Aim: With the development of the Internet and databases and the increasing need to institutionalize evidence-based medicine, physicians' awareness and use of evidence-based medical databases and concepts are considered to be necessary. Therefore, the aim of this study is to evaluate the knowledge and use of evidence-based medical concepts and databases among residents of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences (SBMU).
Materials and Methods: The present study is an applied and descriptive research. The population of this study comprised 192 SBMU residents in 2016. A questionnaire was used for data collection and SPSS software was applied for data analysis.
Results: The findings showed that residents obtained 2.99 for knowledge and 2.73 for the use of evidence-based medical databases out of a total average of 5 points, which indicates that their knowledge and practical use of evidence-based medical databases are moderate. Databases about which residents have the highest knowledge and practical use are UpToDate, PubMed Clinical Queries, and 
Cochrane, respectively. 
Conclusion: The majority of residents at Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences do not have sufficient awareness about databases and concepts of evidence-based medicine; in fact, most of the resources that are used to answer their information needs are non-evidence-based resources. Therefore, planning to accept evidence-based medicine and databases and teach them to residents is essential.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Ranking of hospital libraries based on standard criteria and taking pattern of top libraries would improve the quality of library services. The purpose of this study was to rate hospital libraries based on LibQual criteria and Vikor model. 
Materials and Methods: This study was conducted in a survey method. The statistical population was 3850 actual users of the library of 8 governmental hospitals (with capacities up to 320 beds) in Tehran in 2016. To achieve the goals, The LibQual questionnaire and AHP technique were used. The validity of both questionnaires has been confirmed in various studies. Cronbach's alpha coefficient greater than 70 percent For LibQual questionnaire and inconsistency rates less than one percent for Vikor questionnaire confirm the reliabilities. Data analysis was performed using the expert choice software. Ranking were done using the Vikor technique.
Results: According to three main dimensions for LibQual, "library as a place" weighing 0.379 was the first preference, and "quiet space for individual activities" weighing 0.364 was the first in this dimension too. The dimension of "information control" weighs in 0.318 at the second, and "service impact" weighs 0.303 was in the third grade. In the ranking based on the Vikor criteria, the Library of Firoozgar hospital was in the first place.
Conclusion: The library of Firoozgar hospital in Iran university of medical sciences was the forefront and could be an exemplar for the other libraries.

Abstract

Background and Aim: To understand veterans’ needs and to make future generations familiar with the culture of self-sacrifice and martyrdom, we need a database to store information. The first step for designing a base is to provide a conceptual framework of the base. This study aims to provide a conceptual model to create the national base of veterans in Iran. 
Materials and Methods: This research was conducted in a two-step, mixed approach. The first step was conducted using content analysis method (quantitative) and the second step using Delphi (qualitative) technique. Data collection tool was Excel 2016 software. With the help of Delphi technique, a researcher-made conceptual pattern was sent to the experts in three rounds. Based on their views, the final plan of national base of veterans was formed.
Results: Among the main components, introduction to the war was removed, history of war changed to history of wars, link to links, other materials to other contents, art and war to war and art, and the sub-component of possibilities turned into the main component. Veterans’ personal information turned into veterans’ database that changed into subsidiary components of the martyrs / veterans / prisoners-of-war / warriors database.
Conclusion: The main components of the conceptual pattern of national base of veterans of Iran include: home page, introduction, conflicts and operations, equipment, war zones, facilities, news, cemeteries of martyrs, veterans’ rules, questions and answers, history of wars, war and art, veterans’ database, archives, links, guide, contact with us, FAQs, other content, resources, about the base, search, map.

Abstract

Background and Aim: The review of scientific products in reputable international databases is a guideline for policy-making and planning, in addition to determining the present status and shortcomings. The aim of this study is to investigate the scientific products of the research centers affiliated to Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) and Isfahan University of Medical Sciences (MUI) indexed in Scopus during 2009-2013.
Materials and Methods: This is a descriptive, cross-sectional study with a functional approach. All articles of research centers of TUMS (5880 articles) and MUI (2154 articles) from 2009 to 2013 were retrieved from Scopus and analyzed. To compare the means, t-test was used.  Moreover, the data were analyzed by SPSS and Excel softwares.
Results: The scientific products of both universities’ research centers in Scopus index have grown in the years under review. Most of the papers were from Tehran Endocrinology and Metabolism and Isfahan Cardiovascular Research Centers, and most of the products belonged to the subject areas of the endocrinology and metabolism, pharmaceutical sciences and cardiovascular science. No significant difference was found between the scientific products of the centers of the two universities. 
Conclusion: The growth of scientific production of these research centers indicates the importance of scientific products in line with sustainable development in Iran. Presenting the findings of similar studies can be effective in motivating researchers and supporting research by institutions.

Abstract

Background and Aim: In the field of scientometrics, little attention has been paid to stem cells. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to draw a Scientific Map of stem cells area (co-word analysis) based on the papers indexed in Web of Science database in selected countries during the years 2011-2013.
Materials and Methods: This study is based on descriptive method, and it was conducted by scientometrics and co-word analysis technique. In this study, 34,142 articles were analyzed from Web of Science database. The search system of Web of Science is a tool for collecting data. Data analysis was done using Web of Science analysis system and CiteSpace software.
Results: Most productions in stem cells are in English and belong to America. Stem cell, cell differentiation, in vitro, gene expression, mesenchymal stem cells, embryonic stem cells and transplantation are the most frequently used words and hot topics in this field.
Conclusion: The growing trend in this area has caused different subject fields to enter stem cells areas. Considering the high frequency of embryonic stem cells in the field, it can be said that different diseases such as spinal cord problems and heart diseases can be treated using these cells.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Scientometric studies are one of the most effective methods of scientific evaluation in databases. The aim of this study was to investigate Breast cancer in Iran from 2000-2016.
Materials and Methods: This study has an applied approach and was conducted using scientometric indices. The st tistical population was the indexed articles related to Breast cancer between the years 2000 and 2016 by Iranian researchers at the Science Web site.
Results: During the period 2000-2016, researchers have published 2198 articles on Breast cancer that indicate a steady and steady increase in the number of studies conducted in this area. The results of the study showed that Qaderi is the most prolific researcher in the field of Breast cancer in terms of the number of articles in Iran, Ebrahimi and Montazeri are in the second and third positions respectively. The highest H-index belongs to Montazeri, Qaderi and Abraham, respectively. Researchers in the field of Breast cancer have collaborated with researchers from 65 countries and more with the United States and Canada. The most co-operation has been between researchers in Tehran and Tabriz. The analysis of the keywords used in Breast cancer research in the form of supragloss showed that Iran, Apoptosis and Polymorphism were the most frequent keywords in the studied works.
Conclusion: The upward trend in Breast cancer research indicates the growing importance of this area in Iran. Given the global growth of Breast cancer research and the importance of international research participation, Iranianresearchers should more and more engage in scientific collaboration with their counterparts abroad.
