Abstract

 Background and Aim: Strategic thinking plays a very important role in guarding organizational survival and increasing development in today's dynamic and changing environment. One of the elements of strategic thinking is systemic thinking, which forms the conceptual framework to solve issues in an organization. This study aims to determine the ability of Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) senior managers to stick to systemic thinking based on Friedrik Goldman’s model.

Materials and Methods: This is a cross-sectional, descriptive- analytic study conducted on a sample of 100 TUMS senior managers in 2010. The data collection instrument was a standard questionnaire on systemic thinking, the response rate of which turned out to be 97%. The reliability and validity of the questionnaire were confirmed prior to its distribution. SPSS software was used for data analysis. To this end, single sample t-test and Friedman statistical methods were also applied.

Results: The findings revealed that the ability of systemic thinking was optimal among most TUMS senior managers.

Conclusion : Enhancing and strengthening systemic thinking among TUMS senior managers are suggested, especially regarding omniscient and multi-end approach.

Abstract

 Background and Aim: Organization and utilization of non-book materials is an essential issue therefore, this study aims to evaluate the organization of non-book materials in central libraries of selected universities of Tehran.

 Materials and Methods: The present survey has been conducted as a cross-sectional, descriptive study in 2012. The population consisted of central libraries of selected universities of Tehran. Data gathering instrument was a questionnaire divided into three sections. The validity of the questionnaire was checked by the professionals of the field and its reliability turned out to be 88% using Cronbach's alpha test. Data analysis was performed with SPSS and excel. The findings were presented using descriptive and analytic statistics.

 Results: Most of non-book cataloged and indexed materials are theses and compact discs (CDs). Most of the libraries of this study use the Library of Congress Classification System for organizing their materials, and all of them (100%) apply Anglo-American rules for cataloging. Regarding the staff of libraries, 40 (95%) had academic degrees in library studies. As to their familiarity with OPEC, 4 libraries ( 80%) were familiar with Library of Congress (LC) and 3 ( 60%) were familiar with National Library of Iran. NOSA software was used in 4 ( 80%) libraries , and Windows operating system in all (100%).

  Conclusion: Based on the results of the present study, it can be concluded that the organization of non-book materials in these libraries is not as desired.

Abstract

Background and Aim: By conducting cloud computing and using cloud library, better library's services were prepared for universities’ libraries. The present research aims to determine the possibility of conducting cloud computing in Medical Sciences Universities’ libraries in Tehran from the librarian's perspective.
Materials and Methods: This was a descriptive, cross sectional study. A questionnaire survey was used for the collection of data. Face and content validity of the questionnaire has been examined by librarian experts, and also Cronbach’s Alpha Coefficient (0.77) was used for confirmation of reliability. Questionnaires were mailed to 42 selected library professionals, and a total of 40 libraries filled out the questionnaires. The results were analyzed by SPSS software and calculating independent t-test, binomial and chi-square test.
Results: In the present study, the result showed that the mean of librarians skills for management viewpoint (22.5), the specialist personnel (19.6), the librarian attitudes toward security issues associated with cloud computing (13.15), and situation infrastructures (18.13) were significantly meaningful in all of the cases. Also budgeting and availability of electronic services were found to be the least significant. With comparing the requirements of conducting cloud computing and library features by Chi-square test, 80.7 vs. 19/3 respectively showed that libraries have good position.
Conclusion: It was found that the cloud computing by using different technological advantages is a solution for providing better and quicker services with lower prices where budgets are limited and facilities are inadequate in Tehran's medical sciences universities’ libraries.

Abstract

Background and Aim: The patient is the main customer for hospital services. Patient satisfaction can reflect if the services are performed correctly. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between the degree of client tribute plan and inpatients and outpatients satisfaction in Shiraz hospitals.
Materials and Methods: This descriptive-analytic and cross sectional study was done among 211 inpatients and 1,175 outpatients in 8 Shiraz hospitals. The instruments for data collection were two client tribute plan and patient satisfaction questionnaires. Data collected by interviews and observation. Data were entered into SPSS. Descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation test were used for data analysis.
Results: Forty five point four percent of patients and 44.1 percent of outpatients assessed the hospital service satisfaction as weak. The mean score of inpatient and outpatient satisfaction was 60.53±8.9 and 54.22±12.6 respectively. There were significant relationship between type of admission and satisfaction (p=0.001). Mean score of client tribute plan was 182.44±11.8 that placed in the appropriate level. There were no significant relationships between client tribute plan and inpatients and outpatients satisfaction (p=0.143).
Conclusion: Although client tribute plans perform properly, patient satisfaction is low. In this regard, it is recommended that review client tribute plan clients in healthcare systems and adopt its contents with the needs of patients.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Nowadays, e-procurement systems have provided many opportunities to improve supply and procurement activities in healthcare industry through Internet-based electronic communications for supplier-buyer interactions. Considering the fact that the implementation of these systems is not successful in many cases, extensive preparation in relevant areas is necessary before implementation. This paper aims to present a framework of key readiness factors of hospitals for the adoption of e-procurement system.
Materials and Methods: This study was an applied descriptive survey. The framework of readiness factors was developed based on an extensive review of literature and e-readiness models as well as opinions of experts in the field of information technology, procurement, and healthcare systems. The proposed framework was applied in a case study of a specialty hospital located in Tehran in 2016. The data were collected using a questionnaire, and Fuzzy Cognitive Map (FCM) method was used for modeling and analysis of the identified factors.
Results: In this research, a comprehensive framework of critical readiness factors of hospitals for e-procurement adoption was developed comprising five main components: management, technology, process, human resource, and environment. Environmental and managerial factors were identified as the most important readiness determinants of the case hospital, and among various factors, managers' expertise in IT, IT infrastructures of hospital, and continuous monitoring of system's performance are of higher priority.
Conclusion: This paper provides guidance for more accurate planning to improve readiness and successful adoption of e-procurement systems in hospitals by identifying the most important influential readiness factors.
