Abstract

Background and Aim: Cardiovascular disease is the first and for most factor for mortality in adults and hypercholesterolemia (HC) is a susceptible agent for them. The main objective of this study is to determine the of prevalence of HC and some risk factors related to it in adults in Golestan province  in 2006.

Materials and Methods: This is a Crossectional-Descriptive study based on population and 1995 cases (997 men and 998 woman) between 25- 65 years old, were chosen by cluster and stratify sampling in Golestan adult population. We interviewed all the cases and determined anthropometric and biochemical indexes. Data was analyzed by SPSS.14 software. HC was defined as serum cholesterol levels over 200 mg/dl.

Results: Mean age was 39.2 year and mean ±SD of serum cholesterol in men and women was 196.7±39.11 and 209.4± 42.9 respectively. Prevalence of HC showed significant deference between men (44.7%) and women (57%) (P<0.05). There is a  significant difference between age groups, region, physical activity and BMI in the mean value of serum cholesterol (P<0.01) but regarding economic status it is not significant. Prevalence of HC in abdominal obese and healthy group is 63.2% and 41% respectively and statistical difference is significant (P<0.05). The people of Golestan province consume fruits , vegetables and fish 4.84, 3.65 and 2 days in a week  respectively and  vegetable and fish are consumed more in HC group than in non- HC group. The consumption of hydrogenated oil, liquid oil and other type of oils is 85.4% ,14% and 0.7% respectively, and in HC people the intake of liquid oil is slightly higher than others, but statistical differences is not significant.

Conclusions: HC is one of the most health problems in Golestan province and women suffer from it more then men. Life style and food behavior are two risk factors for it. Thereby correction of food and social behavior can decline incidence of cardiovascular disease.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Materials and methods, as one of the most important parts of a paper, introduces its scientific value. This study aims to investigate the methodological quality of publications of Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) indexed in PubMed. Materials and Methods: In this descriptive, cross-sectional study, 400 articles affiliated to Tehran University of Medical Sciences and indexed in PubMed until the end of 2012 were investigated. The type, purpose and subject matter of all these articles were recorded in a checklist. Results: The most frequently published reports were cross-sectional studies (41.3%), followed by case-control studies (14.5%), case reports (14.3%), clinical trials (13%), narrative reviews (4.8%), animal studies (3.3%), quantitative studies (2.8%), quasi-experimental studies (2%), cohort studies (1.8%), case series (1%), meta-analysis (1%), and systematic reviews (0.5%). When the articles were classified according to National Library of Medicine (NLM) classification, most papers were about musculoskeletal system (8.5%). Over half of the articles were therapeutic (52.8%), followed by diagnostic (24.8%), prevention (12.3%), prognostic (7.8%), and etiologic (2.5%). School of Medicine, Hazrate Rasoule Akram hospital, and Endocrinology & Metabolism Research Institutes had the highest number of articles among TUMS faculties, hospitals, and research centers. Conclusion: Primary studies were the most common types observed in the articles affiliated to Tehran University of Medical Sciences. Systematic reviews and meta-analyses form only a small proportion of articles in the current research. It seems that there should be a revision in the researchers' priorities to publish papers with prevention purposes

Abstract

Background and Aim: Creating personal information collections will bring the management needs. The purpose of this study was to determine the use level of personal information management and each of its four activities by Faculty members of Allied Medical Sciences Schools in Tehran, Shahid Beheshti and Iran Medical Sciences Universities in 2014 year.
Materials and Method: This applied study was an analytical survey. The participants of the study were Faculty members of Allied Medical Sciences Schools in Tehran, Shahid Beheshti and Iran Medical Sciences Universities. All participants (120) were studied. PIM was surveyed by using a questionnaire. Descriptive statistics were used for data analysis. In order to determine the significant differences, analytical statistics were applied. The validity was confirmed by the number of professors feedback and reliability calculated by the Cronbach's alpha 0.91.
Results: Storage with average of 73.59% and organization with average of 62.11% were at "good" level. Maintenance with an average of 54.4% and refind with an average of 59.93% were at "medial" level. "Personal information management" with an average of 62.51% was at "good" level. According to the research hypotheses test, the use of personal information management and each of its elements by members of the community in terms of university, academic rank and gender were not statistically significant.
Conclusion: Usage level of personal information management by faculty members is far from ideal situation. The main reasons can be included not having enough time, working pressure and lack of sufficient acquaintance with the activities required to personal information management.

Abstract

Background and aim: This study aimed to investigate the effect of six weeks high intensity interval training (HIIT) and moderate intensity continuous training on health status in over weight males with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
Materials and Methods: Thirty overweight males with NAFLD were randomly divided into three groups included control (n=10), HIIT group (n=10), continuous training (CT) group (n=10). The HIIT included four sets of two minutes running with a 90-95% heart rate reserve and 3 minutes of active rest between each set; every week, a repeat was added to the workout. Continuous aerobic training included 20 minutes of running with an intensity of 70-85% heart rate reserve, which every week was added five minutes to the workout. Aerobic power, liver enzymes and lipid profiles were measured in serum by valid tools and data analyzed by co-variancetest.
Results: After six weeks of training program, the serum levels of ALT, AST, ALP, lipid profiles and degree of fatty liver sonography improved significantly in the experimental groups compared to the control group (P< 0/05). Increased HDL and decreased LDL, total Cholesterol, AST and ALT levels in HIIT group were significantly than the CT group (P<0/05). The improvement in maximum oxygen uptake was only significant in HIIT group than other groups (P<0/05).
Conclusion: Base on finding, HIIT compare with continuous training by better effects on aerobic power, lipid profiles and reduction of liver enzymes can be a good choice for patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Fractures and dislocations of the femur are a common and disruptive public health problem worldwide. One of the most common ways is to identify the factors associated with common outcomes that increase mortality, length of hospital stay, and postoperative complications. By identifying these factors, the adverse outcomes of elderly hip fractures can be prevented. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the relationship between factors affecting hip fracture and its consequences.
Materials and Methods: The present study was a descriptive cross-sectional observational study. The study population in this study included patients with hip fractures. Patients’ information was examined between 2017-2020 years. Data were analyzed by SPSS applying descriptive statistics, Fisher Exact test, chi-square, independent t-tests, and analytical regression.
Results: The results showed that in this study, the majority of patients with hip fracture had an underlying disease (73.9%). The most common underlying diseases in patients included high blood pressure (20.7%), diabetes (13.2%) and heart diseases (10.5%). The most common causes of death was include old age (40.4%), prevalence of covid-19 (20.2%), heart attack (11.7%), pulmonary embolism (10.6%) and surgical wound infection (10.6%). The most common cause of hip fracture was osteoporosis (26.3%) and falling from a height (24.7%). Also level of education (P=0.0001), causes of fracture (P=0.001), type of anesthesia (P=0.001), history of hospitalization in special wards (P=0.001), readmission (P=0.0001), age (P=0.001) and level of self-care (P=0.001) were significantly associated with elderly mortality. There was a significant relation between type of surgery (P=0.038), history of hospitalization in intensive care units (P=0.001), history of blood transfusion (P=0.021) and level of self-care (P=0.001) with length of hospital stay of fractured elderly hip.

Conclusion: It can be concluded that by identifying the factors affecting the length of hospital stay, surgical wound infection and mortality of the patients with hip fractures, witness better surgery results, shorter hospital stay, less postoperative complications and reduced death. Some factors such as osteoporosis are preventable, which can be prevented with timely education.
