Abstract

Background and Aim: Foodstuffs additives are a general term for materials that are added to the foodstuffs in order to increase durability and to improve the appearance, composition, taste and food nutritional value. Colors are classified in this group and are added to foodstuffs in order to increase their attraction. The aim of this survey was to analyze status of added colors to the juice of black cherry and juice of barberry which are produced in Tehran City, capital of Iran.

Materials and Methods: Three haundred thirty six samples of dried sweets were randomly collected and analyzed from different areas of Tehran. First, the samples were de-colored by Clorhidric Acid, and then were analyzed after refining by Thin Layer Chromatography (T.L.C) method.

Results: Eighty nine percent from the total samples contained colors. Among chromatic samples, 62 samples (18.5%) out the total samples, contained artificial, non-edible colors and 237 samples (70.5%) from the total samples contained artificial and edible colors (for Industrial Producers) and 37 samples (11%), contained natural colors. Carmoisine color was detected more than added colors in juice of black cherry and juice of barberry.

Conclusion: Low costs, stability, Ph and similarity of artificial dyes with natural dyes motivate the producers for high utilization of these dyes without considering their possible hazards and/or their edible quality aspects.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Thalassemia is a genetic disease whit relative or complete lack of alpha or beta globin chain. Patients with moderate and severe form need to have multitransfusion in early life. Occurrence of all immunization against blood group antigens in patients with thalassemia is relatively high and may have difficulties in treatment and transfusion. Antibody production against this blood groups cause lots of problems like preparation of compatible blood for transfusion. Correct diagnosis of blood group phenotype due to existence of dual population of donor and patient RBC would be difficult.

Materials and Methods: In this study, randomly from 40 thalassemic patients, before blood transfusion, 4cc of peripheral blood collected in tubes containing EDTA. Also, 10 healthy individuals who had no history of blood transfusion were in the study as control for serological (agglutination) and molecular results . Phenotyping of patients and control group was done by tube agglutination method by commercial antibody. For molecular test, Allele Specific Primer Amplification (ASPA) PCR was performed for each antigens in separate micro tubes.

Results: In this study' we could set up a method that can amlify any of Rh C c E and E gene separately by a pair of specific primer in a same thermal conditions.Comparison of results of two methods showed that in the control group with no transfusion history. Similar results in phenotyping and genotyping was observed. But in patients, results of two methods had lots of differences.

Discussion and Conclusion: The advantage of this method over PCR-RFLP method is that' all four genes can be amplified the in a same concentration and temperature conditions, and ability to determine the individual's antigen, immediately by electrophoresis. Therefore, Since the above method is simple and inexpensive for medical and research centers it is recommended.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Candida species are among the most common causes of opportunistic fungal diseases. Among Candida species, Candida albicans is responsible for most infections. Having many strains, C.albicans is highly polymorph. C. dubliniensis is very similar to albicans species both morphologically and physiologically. For an infection to occur, cell wall proteins play an important role as they enable yeasts to adhere to host cells and begin pathogenesis. Therefore, we decided to extract these proteins and examine them through molecular methods of protein analysis. Finally we came up with the idea of a modified staining in our analysis.

Materials and Methods: Initially cell wall proteins of two C. albicansstrains (CBS 562 & PTCC6027) and one C. dubliniensis strain (CBS 7987) were extracted by using a solution of beta-mercaptoethanol and ammonium carbonate. After dialysis, SDS gel electrophoresis was performed on the protein extract. Bands were then visualized by using three different staining methods among which one method was modified by us.

Results: By using Coomassie Brilliant Blue staining method, proteins with molecular weight of 42, 66.2 and 200 kDa were detected. By using Silver staining method, proteins with molecular weight of 21.5, 28.5 and 37 kDa were detected. However, using combined staining methods visualized more bands resulting improved detection.

Conclusion: To answer many questions about fungal diseases, fungi cell wall proteins are necessary to be examined. A simple method to enhance such molecular studies is the use of a modified staining method that combines both Coomassie Brilliant Blue and Silver staining.

Abstract

Background and Aim: To provide effective care, health care providers need timely and appropriate information. Electronic records provide quick access and easy management of data. The aim of this study was to develop electronic health records for patients with hydatidiform mole and evaluation of completeness of medical records
Materials and Methods: This applied study was conducted in 2017. After verifying the minimum data set required for the system, data were extracted from patient records using a checklist and entered into SQL server. SQL server 2012 and Visual Studio 2013 to design electronic records and SPSS 20 for data analysis was used. Extent of data completion in patient records was also assesed.
Results: Data on the completion of paper records indicated that in 100% of cases, “address” item was filled in. The less completed data was related to carotene deficiency (%1.1). Our findings also showed that the eight most important items like age of first menstruation, first gestational age, interval between pregnancies, number of sexual partners, menstruation between pregnancies, contraceptive methods, social habits and radiotherapy, were not completed in all records.
Conclusion: Many of the important minimum data set for hydatidiform mole disease were either not completed or completed in limited numbers in paper records. By developing such health records, we can ensure better prevention and treatment, and regular follow-up for the patients and help them to save their time and costs.

Abstract

Background and Aim: The American Psychiatric Association identifies suicide as the third leading cause of death among people aged 15 to 24. This study was conducted with the aim of investigating factors affecting of the occurrence of suicides leading to death in corpses referred to the Forensic Medicine Organization of Tehran Province from 2010 to 2019.
Materials and Methods: This research was a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study in 2019 year. The statistical population includes all bodies referred to forensic medicine. The information related to all corpses referred to forensic medicine which was analyzed between 2010 and 2019 were 5471 cases. Descriptive and analytical statistical methods were used to analyze the data. P-value less than 0.05% was considered valid.
Results: The results showed that 50% of suicide deaths were under 32 years old. Sixty-nine point two percent of suicides leading to death are male and the rest are female. The highest frequency in terms of method was related to the hanging method, 39.3%, and in the youth age group, in terms of the level of education in men, high school diploma and diploma in women. The highest frequency of suicide related to singles was 47.1% and 27.4% in the summer season. The most common method of suicide was hanging, with more than 39%, followed by poisoning with poison, with more than 25% of cases. The least used method was drowning.
Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, it seems that factors such as age, sex, level of education, and even geographic and social factors are among the factors that affect suicide, which can help policymakers, managers, psychologists, psychiatrists, and related organizations. Paying attention to educational literacy, employment status and income level of people, special attention of families to adolescent and young boys and girls and especially their marital status can be effective measures to prevent suicide.

Abstract

Background and Aim: The use of Mobile-Health is helpful in facilitating therapeutic communication between students and healthcare providers. Considering the benefits of the Mobile-Health, it is very important to have a tool that can check the motivation to use Mobile-Health. Therefore, this study was conducted with the aim of Psychometric properties of mHealth Technology Engagement Index.
Materials and Methods: The present study is psychometric research that was conducted in Tehran University of Medical Sciences in 1401. The participants of this study were 450 students of medical sciences in Tehran in undergraduate, master’s and doctorate levels who were included in the study through convenience sampling. The psychometric characteristics of the questionnaire were examined through face, content and construct validity respectively. Principal component analysis was performed using varimax rotation in order to check the factorial structure of the questionnaire. The reliability of the questionnaire was checked with the help of Cronbach’s alpha and intra- class correlation (ICC).
Results: The questionnaire’s content validity ratio (CVR) and content validity index (CVI) were 0.91 and 0.86, respectively. In the formal validity check, minor changes were made in the words of most of the items. Based on the results of face validity, some minor changes were made to the vocabulary of most items. The ICC coefficient was more than 0.80 in all dimensions. The results of exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis extracted five factors, autonomy, competence, relatedness, goal setting and goal attainment, and their cumulative variance was %71.48.  The fit of the five-factor model was optimal based on standard goodness of fit indices such as CFI=0.978, GFI=0.930, RMSEA=0.040, CMIN/DF=1.307. Convergent and divergent validity was accepted for all factors. The reliability of the questionnaire was obtained using Cronbach’s alpha test of 0.71.
Conclusion: The five factor structure of the questionnaire of interaction with mobile health technology has good validity and reliability. Therefore, this questionnaire can be used to check the level of interaction of users of medical science students with mobile health technology.
