Abstract

Background and Aim: Citation is one of the journals ranking factors. Self-Citation rates regarding journals `performance, especially in international databases, is important. The aim of this study is to examine the effect of Journal self-Citation on Impact Factor of Iranian English medical journals indexed in the Web of Science and Islamic World Science Citation Center.

Materials and Methods: The Impact Factor of 12 journals in WoS and 26 in ISC were studied during years 2006-2009 using citation analysis and Journal self-Citation. Self-Citation rate were calculated using cited journals and citing journals tables in ISC. Wilcoxon test and Mann-whiteny test were used for comparison of self-citation rate between two databases. In order to determine any correlation between journal self-citation and IF in WoS, Pearson test was used. In ISC, Spearman test was performed. For comparison of two correlations test, Covariance test was used.

Results: No significant difference between Journal self-citation rates in two databases was noted(p>0.05).There was a significant correlation between Journal self-citation and Impact Factor in WoS(p=0.007, r=0.64). The correlation was not statistically significant in ISC(p>0.05, rsp =0.23). There was not any significant difference between the relations of Journal self-citation and impact factor in two databases(p=0.526).

Conclusion: Attention to the Journal self-citation rates for comparison of Journal Impact Factor in WoS is more important than attention to the comparison of these journals between two Databases.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Based on theories and researches, two variables effective in the continuous improvement of services are trust in and identification with hospital goals. The present study aims to explore the relationship between such variables among nursing staff members in private hospitals of Shiraz.

Materials and Methods: This research is a cross-sectional correlation study. Some 340 nurses(58 males and 282 females) were selected using the stratified sampling technique.
Three questionnaires for the assessment of identification with hospital goals, measurement of continuous improvement, and determination of trust in hospital were used. The reliability of data collection devices turned out to be 0.70, 0.70 and 0.79, respectively. Besides, the construct validity was confirmed through factor analysis. Data were analyzed inferentially using Pearson's correlation test and hierarchical regression analysis.

Results: The findings show that the relationship between identification with hospital goals and trust and nurses' effort to improve continuously is positive and significant. Moreover, the results of hierarchical regression analysis show that after controlling gender, age, experience and education, first identification with hospital goals and then trust in hospital play a significant role in the effort to improve continuously.

Conclusion: Nurses' effort to improve continuously is mostly influenced by identification with hospital goals rather than trust in hospital.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Based on theories and researches, three variables effective in the organizational citizenship behavior are e thical values, job satisfaction and psychological empowerment. The present study aims to explore the relationship between these variables and the organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) among the staff members of private hospitals in Shiraz.

Materials and Methods: This is a cross-sectional correlational study. Some 330 staff members (147 males and 183 females) were selected using stratified sampling technique. The data collection devices consisted of five standardized questionnaires, the reliability of which turned out to be 0.85, 0.93, 0.70, 0.89, 0.90 and 0.70 Besides, the construct validity was confirmed through factor analysis. The data were analyzed inferentially using Pearson’s correlation test, stepwise regression analysis and SEM.

Results: The findings revealed that there was a significant positive correlation between ethical principles, psychological empowerment and job satisfaction with organizational citizenship behavior (p<0/001). Moreover, the findings of stepwise regression analysis showed that ethical climate played a significant role in predicting OCB.

Conclusion: The staff members’ effort to enhance OCB is mostly influenced by psychological empowerment in private hospital.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Thermodynamic indicators are considered in scientometrics studies to survey research performance as the Exergy that is most important ones. Therefore, this article is aimed to introduce, review, definition, application and importance of Exergy.

Materials and Methods: This study is a review article that determined by using related literatures with thermodynamic indicators of scientometrics by library research, and simple and advanced searches of English papers on valid websites. 30 English papers were retrieved and 24 articles related to this study were selected but among Persian literatures, no related papers were found. 

Results: Exergy is a thermodynamic measure which reperesenting a maximum useful work that a system can perform in order to create balance. This indicator is applicable in bibliometrics and as an indicator of research performance for ranking of research institutions.

Conclusion: According to the role of exergy in assessing the research performance of individuals and organizations, and its advantage over H-index, due to consideration of all the articles and all the citations, this indicator can offer new reperesentation of rankings.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Ranking of hospital libraries based on standard criteria and taking pattern of top libraries would improve the quality of library services. The purpose of this study was to rate hospital libraries based on LibQual criteria and Vikor model. 
Materials and Methods: This study was conducted in a survey method. The statistical population was 3850 actual users of the library of 8 governmental hospitals (with capacities up to 320 beds) in Tehran in 2016. To achieve the goals, The LibQual questionnaire and AHP technique were used. The validity of both questionnaires has been confirmed in various studies. Cronbach's alpha coefficient greater than 70 percent For LibQual questionnaire and inconsistency rates less than one percent for Vikor questionnaire confirm the reliabilities. Data analysis was performed using the expert choice software. Ranking were done using the Vikor technique.
Results: According to three main dimensions for LibQual, "library as a place" weighing 0.379 was the first preference, and "quiet space for individual activities" weighing 0.364 was the first in this dimension too. The dimension of "information control" weighs in 0.318 at the second, and "service impact" weighs 0.303 was in the third grade. In the ranking based on the Vikor criteria, the Library of Firoozgar hospital was in the first place.
Conclusion: The library of Firoozgar hospital in Iran university of medical sciences was the forefront and could be an exemplar for the other libraries.

Abstract

Background and Aim: The review of scientific products in reputable international databases is a guideline for policy-making and planning, in addition to determining the present status and shortcomings. The aim of this study is to investigate the scientific products of the research centers affiliated to Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) and Isfahan University of Medical Sciences (MUI) indexed in Scopus during 2009-2013.
Materials and Methods: This is a descriptive, cross-sectional study with a functional approach. All articles of research centers of TUMS (5880 articles) and MUI (2154 articles) from 2009 to 2013 were retrieved from Scopus and analyzed. To compare the means, t-test was used.  Moreover, the data were analyzed by SPSS and Excel softwares.
Results: The scientific products of both universities’ research centers in Scopus index have grown in the years under review. Most of the papers were from Tehran Endocrinology and Metabolism and Isfahan Cardiovascular Research Centers, and most of the products belonged to the subject areas of the endocrinology and metabolism, pharmaceutical sciences and cardiovascular science. No significant difference was found between the scientific products of the centers of the two universities. 
Conclusion: The growth of scientific production of these research centers indicates the importance of scientific products in line with sustainable development in Iran. Presenting the findings of similar studies can be effective in motivating researchers and supporting research by institutions.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Libraries need strategies, such as marketing, to provide services to patrons. The purpose of this research is to compare the components of marketing in academic libraries of Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) and Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences (SBUMS) based on the 7ps Marketing Mix Model.
Materials and Methods: This is a cross-sectional, comparative study with an applied approach. The population members are 77 librarians working in 20 academic libraries at TUMS and SBUMS. A census sampling was performed for data collection. The data collection tool was a researcher-made questionnaire that was completed through interview. The data were analyzed by SPSS (ver. 20) using Chi-square analysis, independent samples t-test, and Mann-Whitney test.
Results: There was no significant difference in gender, work experience, and level of education between the librarians of the two universities. Mean scores for people, physical evidence, promotion, and process in the libraries of SBUMS were higher than those of TUMS. Only the price factor (the fee paid by users for goods and services) in libraries of TUMS was significantly higher than those of SBUMS. Besides, for product factor (lending books and returning services, audio-visual resources, and access to databases, etc.) and place (library website or building and user interface), there was no significant difference between the studied libraries of the two universities, as well (p>0.05).
Conclusion: Overall, the marketing scores of TUMS libraries were lower than those of SBUMS. Nevertheless, SBUMS must also pay attention to marketing for library services, especially for product factor.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Previous studies have shown that viral and host miRNAs play a role in the process of controlling or progressing the disease and can even be considered as therapeutic targets. Accordingly, the present review study was designed to evaluate the role of host miRNAs and Covid-19 virus in the disease process. 
Materials and Methods: The current study was a review study that was conducted during 2012-2022. Studies were extracted from PubMed, Google Scholar, Web of Science and Scopus scientific databases. The researchers selected relevant resources and a summary of them was presented in this review.
Results: The present review study showed that some host miRNAs such as miR-23b-5p, miR-200c, and miR-125a-5p had an inhibitory effect on ACE2 receptor, while miR-3909, miR-4677, and miR-133a had a stimulatory effect on this receptor. Furthermore, host miR-98-5p had an inhibitory effect on TMPRSS2 gene expression. On the other hand, host miR-146a, miR-21, and miR-142 induced inflammation through MAPK and NF-Ƙβ signaling. While, host miR-124, miR-410, and miR-1336 inhibited factor STAT3 and prevented inflammation. Furthermore, host miR-302b and miR-372 targeted the mitochondrial antiviral signaling protein (MAVS), resulting in silencing of type 1 interferon signaling. It has also been established that host exosomal miR-7-5p, miR-24-3p, miR-145-5p, and miR-223-3p inhibited the replication of SARS-CoV-2 and the expression of S protein and their decreased expression in elderly and Diabetic subjects was associated with decreased inhibition of SARS-CoV-2 replication. Moreover, viral miR-359-5p regulated the expression of MYH9 (non-muscle myosin heavy chain 9), which caused virus invasion and release in the host cell.
Conclusion: This study showed that many miRNAs play a role in controlling or progressing the disease of Covid-19 and it is possible to treat the disease of Covid-19 by changing the expression of viral and host miRNA. However, more research is needed in this regard.

Abstract

Background and Aim: It is important to understand how inflammation caused by COVID-19 affects patients and leads to more complications and diseases. According to the importance of controlling COVID-19 related complications, the current study was designed to evaluate the inflammation caused by COVID-19 and its related complications. 
Materials and Methods: The present study is a review study. Studies were retrieved from PubMed, Web of science, Scopus and Google scholar databases. Finally, according to the purpose of the study, the relevant resources were selected by the researchers and a summary of their results was presented in this study.
Results: The present study showed that SARS-CoV-2 viruses enter their genome into the host cell after entering the cell by the spike protein (S) and the important receptor of coronavirus, angiotensin converting enzyme 2 (ACE - 2), and causes the onset of cytokine storms and consequently increase of primary cytokines involved in inflammation. IL-6, IL-8, TNF-α and IL-1 cytokines are key factors; These factors in turn activate macrophages, dendritic cells (DC) and other immune cells. Studies revealed that the inflammation caused by SARS-CoV-2 in the liver by inducing IL-6 activates the JAKs/STAT3 pathway, whose receptor is only found in the liver and immune cells, and causes cytokine release syndrome. Cytokines also cause the release of reactive oxygen species (ROS), superoxide anion, and nitric oxide, so that all of them can damage myocardial cells and cause insulin resistance and diabetes. In addition, the increase of inflammatory cytokines such as IL4, IL10 and IL6 and immune cells lead to cardiac disorders such as arrhythmia. The entry of the virus into the digestive system reduces the bacteria secreting butyrate (with anti-inflammatory effects) and leads to the induction of severe inflammation. Also, corona virus causes obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression and other neurological disorders by increasing pro-inflammatory cytokines and increasing the activity of indoleamine 2,3 dioxygenase (IDO).
Conclusion: Studies have shown that the inflammation caused by COVID-19 plays an important role in the development of the related complications such as disorders in the digestive, hepatic, cardiac, neurologic, pancreas systems and other organs. Therefore, targeting cytokines can potentially improve survival and reduce mortality.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Smart power is the solidarity between science, knowledge and communication. With the advancement of technology, new space has been created in medical sciences. The aim of this research is Explaining the concept of Smart power and identifying its components in Universities of Medical Sciences
Materials and Methods: The current research was done qualitatively in 2023 using the grounded theory method. Deep and semi-structured interview was done with 13 faculty members of Medical Sciences Universities of the country selected through the purposeful and snowball sampling method and reached theoretical saturation. Strauss -Corbin method based on open, axial and selective coding was used for data analysis. To determine the accuracy and validity of the data, after coding the data, the opinions of six interview participants and six university professors who were familiar with the subject and method of the present research were sought.
Results: After the initial concepts were formulated, 77 open codes, 15 core codes, and five selective codes were identified for smart power. Strengthening artificial intelligence, e-health transformation, cross-border activities together constitute health technological responsiveness, are causal factors that affect the phenomenon of smart power. Actions that should be taken for smart power in medical universities, as strategies include technological innovation that is carried out with systematic technology, technological education, and research capacity building. Cyber ​​management with technology-based performance, communication capability enhancement, information management are contextual factors that create special conditions for effective strategies. The conflict between tradition and modernization, information anxiety as organizational risks are intervention factors that interfere with and limit strategies. If the special conditions of strategies are provided and intervention factors are controlled, the outcome of strategies will be technological progress, development of communication network, integration of hard and soft power, and overall comprehensive health.
Conclusion: Using and developing this power, the policy makers of the health system will be able to solve problems such as the non-uniformity of health facilities in different regions, also the use of virtual university and electronic education, which will remove the time and place limitations and provide the opportunity for education to applicants in different parts of the country.
