Abstract

Background and Aim: Salmonellosis is a gastroenteritis caused by different serotypes of Salmonella and is the most common type of food poisoning in the world. The purpose of this research study is to optimize the conventional method for the isolation of Salmonella SPP from the diarrheic specimens of children.

Materials and Methods: Stool specimens were obtained from one hundred patients admitted to Children's Medical Center for diarrhea. The enrichment media were prepared by 3 methods: Rappaport Vassiliadis broth (RV), Tetrathionate broth (TT), and Selenite Cystine broth (SC). Then, for the isolation of Salmonella SPP, the enrichment methods RV and TT were used and incubated at 42° C, and SC at 37° C. After 24 hours of incubation, the enrichment samples were inoculated into the following 6 different media: Hektone Enteric agar (HE), Rambach agar (RA), CHROMagar Salmnella (CHROMagar Salmonella), Brilliant Green agar (BG), Salmonella-Shigella agar (SS), and Xylose-Lysine-Deoxycholate agar (XLD).

Results: In total, 13 out of one hundred samples were identified as Salmonella SPP. All of these 13 Salmonella SPP samples (i. e., 100%) were positive on RV broth the figures were 8 (61.5%) and 3 (23%) on SC and TT broths, respectively. The highest amount of isolation was found by the combination of RV broth and RA agar (100%). The lowest rate, however, was obtained by the combination of TT agar and BG broth (15.4%).

Conclusion: The comparison results of 3 enrichment media and 6 selective media showed that the mixture of RV broth and RA agar would be very fine for the isolation of Salmonella SPP.

Abstract

Background and Aim: In many countries, hospitals have triple ownership (governmental or public, for-profit, and not-for-profit). Numerous studies have been performed in order to investigate the differences among these hospitals in accordance to expenditures, presentation of uncompensated therapeutic services, number of outgoing patients and other measurement devices of hospital performance. The aim of this research was to investigate the role of ownership on total Factors Productivity changes in Qazvin`s selected hospitals.

Materials and Methods: Descriptive-analytic study was conducted in three periods of time from 2005 to 2007 in 8 selected hospitals of Qazvin. Inclusion criteria included the active beds and the value of intermediate consumptions in hospitals.The exclusion criteria included the total number of inpatient and surgical operations. Data collection tool, was researcher-designed checklist. Data were analyzed using DEAP 2/1 software and ANOVA, HSD and TUKEY tests.

Results: There was a significant difference between the mean productivity of three hospital groups due to the existence of various ownership(p=%012), Also a significant difference was observed between the mean of technological efficiency of the three groups of hospitals(p=%006), No significant differences was found between the mean of technical efficiency of the three groups of hospitals(p=%23).

Conclusion: Cause of the variation in total factor productivity in private hospitals, is due to their suitable production technology which is always improved. But in respect to their efficiency promotion and optimization of production and products, there was no distinguishing difference with other hospitals.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Employees are an organization's greatest assets and organizational performance is dependent to employee’s performance. Presence of inefficient employees can make other employees to be less productive. To improve inefficient employees to high performance level, it is necessary to analyze the performance of employees. This study aims to identify and determine poor performance dimensions and cluster inefficient staffs.

Materials and Methods: This study was an analytical and descriptive research. The research made questionnaire developed for data collection and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Cluster Analysis (CA) techniques in SPSS used to analyze the research data.

Results: The PCA results showed that six poor performance dimensions were behavioral problems, low results, lack of self-efficacy and creativity, sabotage, postponing, and individualism. The CA results declared that poor performers can be classified to five clusters include poor behavior, lazy, jobber, poor ability, marginal, managers believed that root of employees’ in inefficiency attributed jobber, poor ability, and lazy employees to internal causes, and attributed bad behavior and marginal employees to external causes.

Conclusion: The type of inefficiency and its dimensions should be identified in order to make effective decisions for inefficient employees. Employees clustering propose a new attitude toward inefficiency differentiation comparing to literature,  and this five group clustering based on empirical data expected to be more applicable in practice.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Modeling of organizational knowledge creation process is one of the key areas of research in knowledge management. The aim of this paper was to determine solutions for developing and improving evolutionary knowledge creation model based on the model validation results in real world.
Materials and Methods: This study was an analytical and empirical research that was done by multi case study and simulation strategy. The committee was formed to collect information from various source of data including organizational documents and interview with senior managers about knowledge creation history for 5 years in Development and Planning Management department of Tehran University of Medical Sciences. Data analysis was done using descriptive statistics and qualitative analysis. Also, the mathematical formulation was analyzed using simulation in Excel.  
Results: In most of analyzed knowledge creation cases, knowledge absorption from external source through changing managers or employing consultant following integration with exist knowledge was occurred. Also, simulation results show that, mathematical relations were not well defined and changing them makes results more acceptable. 
Conclusion: Knowledge grow in organization has occurred through three ways including planned knowledge creation based on managerial decisions, planned knowledge absorption based on managerial decisions, and random knowledge creation mechanism, and all of them have impact on essential knowledge contents.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Metabolic syndrome refers to a set of metabolic disorders related to obesity, such as abdominal obesity, increased body fat mass, lipid disorders, hypertension, increased blood glucose, and insulin resistance. The present study was conducted with the aim of determining the effect of 8 weeks of CXWORX exercises combined with inulin consumption on some indicators of oxidative stress in obese women with metabolic syndrome.
Materials and Methods: Forty eight obese women with metabolic syndrome in the age range of 30 to 40 years were randomly divided into Control, inulin, CX exercise and combined groups were included. Subjects were present in the laboratory environment and 5 cc of blood was taken from their brachial vein. Blood sample was taken to measure malondialdehyde and xanthine oxidase (pre-test). Then the aforementioned interventions were performed on the studied groups for a period of 8 weeks. Finally, blood sampling was done again to measure the variables (post-test).
Results: The results of the correlated t-test revealed that in all three groups, the intervention led to a significant decrease in malondialdehyde compared to the pre-test; However, xanthine oxidase variable did not change significantly in the exercise group and significantly decreased in the inulin and combined groups compared to the pre-test. ANOVA results revealed that compared to the control group, the amount of malondialdehyde is significant only in the combined group (P≤0.05). The amount of this variable in the combined group decreased significantly compared to the exercise and inulin group (P≤0.05). No significant difference was observed between the exercise and inulin groups (P>0.05). Amount of xanthine oxidase, a significant difference had between the inulin and combination groups with the control group (P≤0.05). No significant difference was observed between the exercise and inulin groups (P>0.05). Despite this, a significant difference in xanthine oxidase levels was observed between the combined group with the exercise and inulin groups (P≤0.05).
Conclusion: Based on the available findings, it is concluded that the implementation of CX exercises combined with the use of inulin reduces the oxidative stress function more than the application of each of them alone in women with metabolic syndrome.
