Abstract

Background and Aim: Evaluation is a principle function of management which measure organizational goal attainment and eliminate the problems and modify the policies and procedures. Teachers are the most important educational system inputs and are evaluated with more complexity. There are several evaluation procedures for teachers' evaluation. For example, evaluation of teaching process by students. This research is aimed to conduct faculty members and teachers' opinion about teachers evaluation questionnaires form completed by the students in school of Allied Health Sciences, Tehran University of Medical sciences by the Students.

Materials and Methods: All the teachers and faculty members were selected to collect their opinions about teaching evaluation form. The data were analyzed by Excel and descriptive statistical method.

Result: The research findings showed that most of the faculty members and teachers believed that teachers evaluation questionnaire form is truly designed and conducted.

Discussion and Conclusion: Several universities faculty members and teachers don't believe in teachers evaluation by students, however we think that compound evaluation technical is most appropriate for teachers evaluation.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Information is a factor for organizations success and organizations try to stay in this competitive world. In each organization, there are sections that have special role in information aspect in hospitals and healthcare centers, this role is for medical record section which organizes all of the patients' health care information. Paying attention to function quality in this section(medical record) is very important. Since health ministry introduce(EFQM) as an Excellence Model for hospitals, there fore, the role and importance of medical record section in implementation of this model and its criteria is determined.

Materials and Methods: All of the information databases was collected and those which were appropriate were selected. Then according to the article's goal, proper keywords were selected and documented through comparing with MESH. Finally related articles in credible journals were used in two Persian and English languages.

Results: After determining all the concepts and criteria of EFQM and matching them to the medical record section's goals, task's and functions, feasibility study of EFQM implementation in medical record section, is approved. With this comparism, importance of this section's role in signification model scores hospitals quality of performance is determined.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Internal Evaluation is a process of providing evaluative-descriptive information based on the value and significance of educational objectives, operations and results to direct decisions, responses, information and research processes.

Materials and Methods: In this research, studying the opinions of faculty members, students, and graduates, the educational system of Medical Laboratory Sciences Department at Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) was evaluated in the year 2010. The aim the study was to remodel and adjust the educational system with the society's needs and to promote the educational quality. The employed method was a cross-sectional, descriptive one and consisted of 10 procedural steps in eight sections dealing with the evaluated factors such as faculty members and students, and the satisfaction expressed by students.

Results: The results of the study showed that the average of the eight investigated sections was 70.6% for the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences, which can be interpreted as desirable.

Conclusion: Internal evaluation can be considered as one of the best methods of improving the quality of education in the faculty of Allied Health Sciences School

Abstract

Background and Aim: Assessment of hospital performance increases responsiveness and efficiency of limited resources. One of the most useful models of hospital performance assessment is Pabon-Lasso, a graphical model that determines the relative performance of hospitals using three indicators: Bed Occupancy Rate Bed Turnover and Average Length of Stay. The present study aims to compare the performance of Lorestan University of Medical Sciences (LUMS) hospitals using the above-mentioned tools.

Materials and Methods: In this descriptive cross-sectional study, fourteen LUMS hospitals were selected through census. The data-gathering instrument was the standard data form verified by the Ministry of Health and Medical Education. Bed Occupancy Rate, Average Length of Stay, and Bed Turnover Rate were calculated and Pabon-Lasso graph was drawn using SPSS 15.

Results: The average length of stay, bed occupancy, and bed turnover rates turned out to be 3/21 days, 53/07% and 95/54, respectively. Five hospitals were in Zone III, indicating a satisfactory level of efficiency. Four hospitals demonstrated inefficiency and underutilization of resources by falling into Zone I. Three hospitals were placed n Zone II. And two hospitals were in Zone IV.

Conclusion: Among 14 studied hospitals, just 5 were considered as efficient. Therefore, it is necessary that policy-makers develop solutions to improve the performance of other hospitals and distribute health resources appropriately.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Achievement-based evaluation is an important part of the educational planning process, in which learners are screened besides, it helps teachers in their self-evaluation. The purpose of present study is to survey the methods through which laboratory sciences students were evaluated by their professors at Tehran University of Medical Sciences(TUMS) in the academic year 2009-2010.

Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, the population consisted of the faculty members who teach laboratory sciences courses. Data collection instrument was a researcher-made questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed to describe all evaluation methods using tables and necessary distribution frequencies. Then, the results were compared with those of Medical Planning Council resolutions.

Results: The results show that mid-term exams were used for the evaluation of students in 35% of all theoretical and practical courses. Besides, of the evaluation methods used, multiple-choice questions occupied the first rank(70%) among the methods normally employed.

Conclusion: According to the results, routine evaluation of undergraduate students of laboratory sciences at the Paramedical Faculty of Tehran University of Medical sciences not only conformed to the ratifications of the Supreme Council of Medical Planning, but also was done more extensively and with a higher degree of consistency in the academic year 2009-2010.

Abstract

Background and Aim: In several KT plans the researcher self evaluation is basis of researchers KT activities measurement so the aim of this study was the validity of researchers self assessment about their own activities in KT.

Materials and Methods: The valid and reliable questionnaire was filled by 40 Golestan University of Medical Sciences researchers. In this questionnaire researchers were asked to give a score from 0 to 10 for their own activities in KT in a finished special project. Statistical analysis was performed using pair T test and Pearson correlation coefficient. The linear regression was used for assessing the effect of influential factors on KT self evaluation and activity scores.

Results: The mean score of researchers KT activity and self evaluation was 3.52 and 5.47 respectively which this difference was statistically significant (P<0.01). The correlation coefficient between researchers' activity and self evaluation score was 0.73 which is an indicator of good correlation. The influential factors on researchers' KT self evaluation score in regression model was male gender, having administrative responsibility and percent of total time allocated to research and the influential factors on researchers' KT activities score in regression model was male gender, type of research (clinical sciences research compared to basic sciences) and percent of total time allocated to research.

Conclusion : The results of this study shows that researchers overestimate their own activities in KT so adopting strategies like education about KT concepts and activities for increasing researchers knowledge and perception can fill research and action gap.

Abstract

Background and Aim: If the evaluation is done from the perspective of users, Successful development of measures and features related to use and implementation of hospital information system and identify areas that need further consideration is to be provided. The main purpose of this study was assessment the views of physicians and nurses of hospital information system identify the effective criteria for the use of it and their satisfaction.

Materials and Methods: Present research is a descriptive cross-sectional study and was applied in public- education hospitals of Tehran University of Medical Sciences in 2012- 2013. The main tool was a questionnaire prepared by reviewing relevant literature in databases Iranmedex, Magiran, SID, PubMed, Science direct, Google scholar, and surveys by experts. In order to determine the validity, a questionnaire was distributed among 5 experts in the area of ​​information technology. After completion of the questionnaires, results were analyzed using software SPSS17.

Results: Information systems in half of the hospitals surveyed from the perspective of research community have an average of 30 - 60 percent capabilities in order management. Also users in all surveyed hospitals with more than 43 % agree the ease of using hospital systems.

Conclusion : User satisfaction is a guarantee for the implementation of information system. To improve the situation and move towards the ideal condition we suggest users needs in hospital information systems should be considered. Also design and system should be Compatible with the skills and knowledge of users as possible.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Online submission and peer review systems are formal channels of communication among authors, journal editorial boards, and reviewers. The review process starts after authors submit their manuscripts. The aim of this study is to examine the online article submission and peer review systems in terms of the capability in medical journals of Iranian Ministry of Health, and Medical Education. Materials and Methods: In this descriptive survey study, 199 approved Iranian medical journals were examined so that the characteristics of online submission and peer review systems could be investigated. To study author role features, a checklist was developed by the researcher. The data were analyzed by SPSS 18 and Microsoft Excel 2007. Results: The online submission and peer review systems considered in this study had most (84%) of the features of the author role. Among the systems reviewed, Kowsar system had the highest number of features. Conclusion: The results show that the studied systems consider some, but not all, of the required features. To meet the maximum required features of the author role, it seems necessary to take all standard research criteria into account

Abstract

Background and Aim: Considering the elements of knowledge management (availability, creation, and transfer of knowledge) is very important in digital libraries websites and makes the performance better. So this paper aim to identify the knowledge management criteria in Iranian selected digital library's websites and study of observance scale

Materials and Methods: The research method was descriptive survey and from applied research type. Data collecting has been based on check list according with K-ACT model (Knowledge- Access Creation Transfer). The population of this study was 7 digital library websites, including Noor, Payame noor, Islamic Parliament, Tebyan, DID, National Digital Library of Iran and Astan Quds Razavi that were selected based on accessibility.

Results: This research findings showed that use of knowledge management criteria in the selected digital libraries websites is moderate and the access to website criteria is highest and lowest is online participation criteria. Tebyan DL earned first rank among seven libraries with 56 percent compliance with the standards of knowledge management in the digital library's web sites.

Conclusion: Study of knowledge management criteria in the selected digital library websites has shown that these criteria has not been favorably applied that it stems from criteria incompatible with the principles, rules and standards. Due to these problems, designers of digital libraries can be effective in promoting these websites and enhance the quality of digital library services with aware of users’ needs and attention to use of these criteria.

Abstract

Background & Aim: Because of extension of health services and comprehensive receivers, the need for health services management is inevitable. Despite the availability of health care services, people do not embrace the full range of these services. This study was conducted to determine the reasons for unwillingness to use health care services presented to age group under 9 years from perspective of health workers in Qom province, during 2013.

Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was done to evaluate the perspective of health personals about services that presented to population with age group less than 9 years. This study was done with a questionnaire as a matrix evaluation of health services. Data were analyzed by Spss 15 Software. Chi square test were used for the evaluation of the hypothesis.

Results: The main reasons for the lack of interest to receive the health care services from perspective of health workers were: lack of health knowledge in recipients of services, inadequate information, poor methods of health care delivery, quality of health care and unsuitable access to health care.

Conclusion: To encourage people to get the health care services provided at health centers in Qom province should hold training meetings, to enhance the knowledge of health care recipients. About presentation of services and methods of service delivery in health centers, we should give enough knowledge to people. Also we should try to promote the level of services, while people motivate to get the services.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Heterogeneous insertion of Organizational affiliations can cause loss of ranking points in the national and international levels. So, we decided to investigate the different affiliations of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in scientific publications that indexed in Web of Science and their effect on the result of research activities evaluation in the year 2012.
Materials and Methods: Methodology of this study is bibliometric approach with descriptive survey. The study included 1139 scientific production of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences that indexed in Web of Science in the first one in April 2011 to April 2012. 
Results: 1139 articles indexed in the Web of Science, 94/38% in the evaluation of the research activities of the ministry of health have been scored and 5/61% failed. Among the unsuccessful papers 1/01%, had been inserted affiliation incorrectly. One-sample t-test showed that the mean score of 1/01% has no significant statistical impact on the total average rating of products indexed in Web of Science.
Conclusion: Investigation showed that standard insertion of affiliation has impact on enterprise University Ranked and University status at the international level.

Abstract

Background and Aim: In attention to hospital beds serves as an invaluable resource in health system and necessity for appropriate hospital beds utilization through the reduction of patient inappropriate stay, this study aimed to assess the proportion and causes for hospital inappropriate stays. 
Materials and Methods: The proportion and causes for hospital inappropriate stays were analyzed in a cross-sectional survey using a sample of 1925 days of hospital stay based on the Appropriateness Evaluation Protocol. The study was conducted at the tertiary care University Hospital Shahid Beheshti, 510 – bed teaching hospital which is located in the central part of Iran.
Results: Hundred and twenty one days (6.3%) of 1925 days of patient hospitalization were inappropriate. There was relationship between inappropriate stay and patients’ age and types of insurance. Findings relating to analysis of patient non demographic causes revealed that among hospitals, physicians and patient causes, Hospital-related causes and Physicians related causes have the most impact 42 (33.1%) and 37 (29.1%) on patient inappropriate stay  respectively. 
Conclusion: AEP list of reasons provides base line data for performance improvement in health care organizations. For conducting improvement process, developing a multidisciplinary team under title of Utilization Review committee is recommended to pave the way for targeted interventions based on identified potential causes.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Periodic assessment of medical sciences databases is a necessary principle of the process of enhancement these databases. The aim of this study was to Comparatively evaluate structural features of medical bibliographic databases including MedLib, Barakat knowledge network system, Irandoc, SID, Magiran and  PubMed, based on Gulliver criteria.
Materials and Methods: This survey was carried out in accordance with Gulliver's assessment checklist 2002. This checklist consists of 12 sections including entry page, searching, limiting, record viewing and manipulating, graphics, record retrieval, selective dissemination of information services, general design, terminology, icon design and placement, help and advanced features. The study was conducted on five national databases and one foreign database.
Results: Among the databases, PubMed gained the first ranking with a score of 89.16 percent. Among the national databases, new SID database with a score of 57.5 percent gained the top rank. Other databases including Irandoc (56.25%), Magiran (54.58 %), Barkat knowledge network system (52.91 %), MedLib (51.25%) and old SID (47.5 %) obtained next ranking respectively.
Conclusion: Despite improvements indices in updated national databases, many of the indicators are far from prestigious databases such as PubMed. It is recommended that in development of national databases, features such as search, help, SDI, entry page, advanced features and record retrieval should be considered.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Ranking of hospital libraries based on standard criteria and taking pattern of top libraries would improve the quality of library services. The purpose of this study was to rate hospital libraries based on LibQual criteria and Vikor model. 
Materials and Methods: This study was conducted in a survey method. The statistical population was 3850 actual users of the library of 8 governmental hospitals (with capacities up to 320 beds) in Tehran in 2016. To achieve the goals, The LibQual questionnaire and AHP technique were used. The validity of both questionnaires has been confirmed in various studies. Cronbach's alpha coefficient greater than 70 percent For LibQual questionnaire and inconsistency rates less than one percent for Vikor questionnaire confirm the reliabilities. Data analysis was performed using the expert choice software. Ranking were done using the Vikor technique.
Results: According to three main dimensions for LibQual, "library as a place" weighing 0.379 was the first preference, and "quiet space for individual activities" weighing 0.364 was the first in this dimension too. The dimension of "information control" weighs in 0.318 at the second, and "service impact" weighs 0.303 was in the third grade. In the ranking based on the Vikor criteria, the Library of Firoozgar hospital was in the first place.
Conclusion: The library of Firoozgar hospital in Iran university of medical sciences was the forefront and could be an exemplar for the other libraries.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Hospital accreditation is an external evaluation strategy used to improve the quality and effectiveness of services. Accreditation surveyors are among the important factors affecting the validity of accreditation results. Since the effectiveness of an accreditation system depends on its surveyors, the aim of this study is to identify the evaluation criteria of hospital accreditation surveyors in Iran.
Materials and Methods: This qualitative study was conducted in 2017 based on stakeholders’ views about the hospital accreditation program. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed by thematic analysis method. Then the framework was designed and finalized with expert opinion.
Results: Forty-four criteria identified for the evaluation of hospital accreditation surveyors in Iran were classified into six domains: personality, experience, knowledge, attitude, skills, and organizational citizenship behavior. Accreditation surveyors should have an acceptable combination of such criteria.

Conclusion: Evaluation of accreditation surveyors with these criteria will lead to their better performance and ultimately promote the validity of the accreditation results. These criteria also result in a native definition for “accreditation surveyor” that can be used by the directors of accreditation system of hospitals for the management of accreditation surveyors.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Human resources are one of the most important assets of any organization and the creation of a safe working environment enhances the quality of services in addition to satisfying this valuable capital. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the safety of diagnostic laboratories of hospitals affiliated to Iran University of Medical Sciences (IUMS).
Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in 7 IUMS hospitals in 2019. Data collection was performed using a checklist that was validated after being translated (by qualitative face validity method); Then, the safety status of the studied laboratories was classified into four categories: Excellent, good, average and poor. Finally, data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and SPSS software.
Results: In determining the validity of the checklist using qualitative face validity, experts' opinions were applied as changes in the tool. In the descriptive part of the study and among the safety dimensions of diagnostic laboratories, the highest mean score was related to the dimensions of "communication hazards" and "safety information" and the lowest to the dimension of "fire safety".
Conclusion: According to the results of the study, the overall safety status of the diagnostic laboratories of the hospitals under investigation is at a good level; however, the "fire safety" component as one the most important safety components was considered poor, and necessary steps must be taken to improve it.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Electronic prescription systems can improve patient safety and the quality of health care services. These systems must provide the capabilities required to reduce medical errors and enhance the performance of health care providers. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the capabilities of the e-prescription system from the perspective of physicians in the polyclinics of the Social Security Organization (SSO) of Urmia.
Materials and Methods: The present study is a descriptive cross-sectional study that was conducted in 2020. The study population consisted of 82 physicians working in 3 polyclinics of the SSO in Urmia, which was determined by census. The instrument used in this study is a self-designed questionnaire that the validity of it was determined based on the opinions of experts and its reliability was evaluated by Cronbach's alpha coefficient. Data analysis was performed using SPSS software.
Results: The results showed that in the section of documentation and access to information, the highest score was related to the possibility of drug prescribe (4.58), request for examination and radiology (4.44). In terms of decision support capabilities, the highest score for providing alerts related to drug interactions (4.18) and controlling the amount of medication prescribed for chronic patients (3.83) and also in the field of technical capabilities, the highest score related to easy to use (3.87) and fit of user interface (3.66).
Conclusion: The e-prescription system under survey has gained fewer score in some capabilities, such as access to pharmaceutical information based on reliable sources, advice to treatment options based on original diagnosis and the customized system. Therefore the system developer should be improved capabilities of it through communicating properly with users and understanding their real needs.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Social networks that provide users with health data not only educate them but also play an active role in the health decision-making process. Health social networks, in addition to being a good tool for better patient communication with health care providers, can play an effective role in connecting similar patients with each other to receive social support. Social networking is one of the biggest achievements of Web 2, which facilitates communication between people. Despite the spread of social networks, their use in the field of health is still at its early levels. To implement an information system, it is first necessary to identify, design and model the related processes. The main purpose of this study was to provide technical documentation for the development of social networks in the field of health in order to facilitate future developments.
Materials and Methods: This study was an applied research. Due to the review of texts in the first phase, this research was descriptive. It is also a developmental research due to its technological dimensions in modeling and pattern model presentation. First, extracted features were confirmed based on experts’ opinions. Then, according to the identified features, social network modeling was performed at three levels of data, functional and process. Based on the modeling, a prototype model was designed and evaluated.
Results: In this research, technical documents were prepared for the development of social networks in the field of health in the three axes of data modeling, functional modeling and process modeling. In the usability assessment by Nielsen model, the created prototype based on modeling was evaluated. Finally, the number of problems in each case of the Nielsen model was determined. The case of "Visibility of system status" with 26.31 and "Consistency and standards" with 5.27 were associated with the highest and lowest problems, respectively.
Conclusion: The growing need and expansion of the use of social networks has created a good platform for using this tool in the field of health and exploiting its benefits. The present study focuses on providing technical documentation for the development of health social networks and to facilitate the development of social networks in the field of health.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Effective monitoring and evaluation of human resources in countries require an agreed set of indicators and measurement tools. Due to the existence of different payment mechanisms, this study aimed to identify performance evaluation indicators in hospitals affiliated with the Tehran University of Medical Sciences.
Materials and Methods: A qualitative phenomenological study was conducted in 2022. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews, purposive sampling, and participation of 23 members of the Senior executives and financial team of hospitals affiliated to Tehran University of Medical Sciences and analyzed by content analysis method using MAXQDA-10 software.
Results: Twenty-three experts participated in this research, 78.2% were men and 21.7% were women, and a total of 526 final codes were identified and according to the balanced scorecard management tool in 4 main themes of finance, customers, internal processes, and growth and Development. Also 8 sub-themes of resource efficiency with 86%, medical tourism with 52%, professional ethics with 65%, satisfaction with 78%, accreditation with 48%, diagnosis and treatment with 78%, education with 56% and The research was categorized with 78%.
Conclusion: The provision of optimal medical services requires managers to be aware of the performance of subordinate personnel, which makes it possible to choose the appropriate criteria, develop performance evaluation systems and conduct correct evaluation, informing Doctors regarding the indicators considered for more accurate evaluation are among the suggestions that can be a solution to the existing problems. Another important point considering the limited available resources is the role of doctors in the field of health tourism to which attention will lead to an increase in financial resources.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Parallel to the progress of services, organizational complexity levels in health care centers (HCCs) have increased. The influential factors in this regard include the variety of services, the non-uniformity of the centers’ management conditions, and the rising expectations from the health system. Therefore, considering many factors influenced and effective, improvement of health services requires development of a systematic approach to evaluate their efficiency and management system. The aim of this study was to develop a balanced scorecard (BSC) model suitable for HCCs using a hybrid approach that combines the Fuzzy Delphi and DNAP techniques. 
Materials and Methods: This research was a combined qualitative-quantitative study that was conducted with the aim of developing a BSC model suitable for HCCs. The statistical population consisted of 15 experts in health and medicine, who were selected based on the targeted snowball sampling. A researcher-made questionnaire and a 20×20 matrix questionnaire were used to collect the data. The questionnaire validity was calculated based on the experts’ opinions and the reliability was calculated using Cronbach’s alpha and consistency rate. The data was analyzed using Excel and MATLAB, and DNAP technique was used to determine the cause-and-effect relationship and the influence levels of the objectives. 
Results: According to the results of the Fuzzy Delphi technique in the panel of experts, 5 viewpoints with 20 objectives of the BSC suitable for HCCs were identified and replaced the traditional viewpoints of the BSC. In addition, these results showed that the views of growth and development, intra-organizational processes, and social responsibility are considered as the influential factors due to the positive D-R values, while the views of patients and society, financial status, and performance are considered as the factors that are effective due to the negative D-R values.
Conclusion: The results of this study indicated that those points of view that are consistent with the goals of the HCCs should be used in the BSC in order to evaluate their performance. Also, prioritizing and determining the cause-and-effect relationship and considering the contribution of each point of view for achieving the goals of the HCCs can increase the performance.
