Abstract

Background and Aim: Development and evaluation of rehabilitation services as a section of health system, which plays an important role in the improvement of the quality of life, needs a mechanism for information management as well as other healthcare levels. The effectiveness of information management has been assured through standardization & ongoing evaluation of rehabilitation centers. There is no standardization on rehabilitation information management processes in Iran, Therefore we surveyed the standards of information management at Commission on Accreditation for Rehabilitation Facilities and compared them to same English & Australian rehabilitation services evaluation & standardization organizations. At the end, we present a framework for necessary standards for this field.

Materials and Methods: In this literature review article CARF standards in axis of information management infrastructural standards, data gathering, content of records, documentation principles, information reveal for confidentiality policies of standard classification has been investigated. We used reliable electronic references in this article.

Discussion and Conclusion: The CARF information management standards are included a standardized outcome-oriented program evaluation & management systems as a fundamental & infrastructural requirement, data gathering standards, internal content of patient records, the framework for complete documentation and maintenance of information confidentiality. Therefore CARF standards in term of information management are the most complete model and have enough details in compare to the others. The results indicate that CARF standards can be a proper model for standardization activities and evaluation rehabilitation centers.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Despite all inherent advantages of information technology in health sector, its implementation still faces many problems. One of the most important barriers is people’s resistance. This study was carried out to survey the factors affecting the acceptance of information technology by Health Information Management (HIM) staff of Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) hospitals based on Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) in 2011.

Materials and Methods: It is a descriptive-analytical survey. The population of the study consisted of the HIM staff (363 members) of TUMS hospitals. As the sample, 123 employees were selected. The data gathering tool was a questionnaire the validity and reliability of which were confirmed. The data were collected and analyzed by SPSS software, descriptive statistical methods and Spearman Test.

Results: The results showed that there was a positive direct relationship between perceived ease of use (PEOU) on the one hand and the staff’s attitude and their application of IT on the other hand (R=0.14, P= 0.05 R=0.36, P=0.05). Also, perceived usefulness (PU) had a significant direct effect on the staff’s attitude and their application of IT (R=0.22, P= 0.05 R=0.37, P=0.05).

Conclusion : Perceived ease of use (PEOU) and perceived usefulness (PU) are the factors affecting the acceptance of information technology by the HIM staff of TUMS hospitals. Therefore, it is suggested that the above two principles be considered when designing and implementing the IT systems.

Abstract

 Background and Aim: Personal Information Management (PIM) is a novel approach comprising three interactive parts of information resources, dimensions, and tools. The main aim of this study was to determine the degree of Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) management and information science students’ familiarity with PIM process.

 Materials and Methods: The present work is a qualitative-applied study and the population includes 145 TUMS management and medical information students in 2012. The subjects were randomly selected and the data were finally obtained from 73 persons through semi-structured interviews. The data collection tool was a questionnaire with 10 open-ended questions classified based on the conceptual framework  of interviews. The questions were about how to acquire, organize, maintain, and retrieve information. To analyse the interviews, the qualititative data analysis software Nvivo 8 was employed.  

 Results: According to the obtained results, 51% (37 persons) of interviewed persons have applied methods and tools in order to organize and maintain information and have had exclusive methods to retrieve information. The most frequent worries were the information storage 49% (35 persons) and acquiring information 29% (21 persons).

 Conclusion: It is noteworthy to say that the PIM approach is not very popular among university students, and many of them acquire, maintain, and organize their personal information inappropriately in spite of their need for the method. Therefore, educating the students and promoting their performance can result in the improvement of main PIM-related problems.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Creating personal information collections will bring the management needs. The purpose of this study was to determine the use level of personal information management and each of its four activities by Faculty members of Allied Medical Sciences Schools in Tehran, Shahid Beheshti and Iran Medical Sciences Universities in 2014 year.
Materials and Method: This applied study was an analytical survey. The participants of the study were Faculty members of Allied Medical Sciences Schools in Tehran, Shahid Beheshti and Iran Medical Sciences Universities. All participants (120) were studied. PIM was surveyed by using a questionnaire. Descriptive statistics were used for data analysis. In order to determine the significant differences, analytical statistics were applied. The validity was confirmed by the number of professors feedback and reliability calculated by the Cronbach's alpha 0.91.
Results: Storage with average of 73.59% and organization with average of 62.11% were at "good" level. Maintenance with an average of 54.4% and refind with an average of 59.93% were at "medial" level. "Personal information management" with an average of 62.51% was at "good" level. According to the research hypotheses test, the use of personal information management and each of its elements by members of the community in terms of university, academic rank and gender were not statistically significant.
Conclusion: Usage level of personal information management by faculty members is far from ideal situation. The main reasons can be included not having enough time, working pressure and lack of sufficient acquaintance with the activities required to personal information management.

Abstract

Background and Aim: One of the most important challenges in the field of research information management is the use of reliable and qualified software to manage research resources in health domain. This study aimed to develop a validation tools for research information management systems in Iran to utilize by universities in the process of using existing research information management systems.
Materials and Methods: This was a descriptive study conducted in two stages. In the first stage, a validation tool for research information management systems (Pajoohan, Pajooheshyar, Jiro, Yektaweb, Kuiper) was designed, and in the next stage, in order to ensure the validity of the produced tool, a self-assessment survey was conducted by users of research information management systems in medical sciences universities. Therefore, this tool was completed by 104 researchers from all over the country. The collected data were analyzed by Excel and SPSS software.
Results: The developed validation tool of research information management systems included four components and 82 indicators: software design and architecture (17 indicators), usability and user environment (16 indicators), professional use (36 indicators) and management (13 indicators). Based on the self-declared results of the users, this tool has 57 mandatory features, 26 preferred and 4 optional features. The results of the validation of research information management systems based on this tool showed that the highest rank in the component of architecture, professional use and software management was related to the Kuiper system, and in the component of usability and user environment was related to the Pajoohan system. In the self-declaration done by the users ,12 cases of Jiro system ,11 cases of Kuiper system ,11 cases of Pajoohan system ,7 cases of Pajooheshyar, and 5 cases of Yektaweb system have received confirmation above 75%.
Conclusions: The validation tool which developed by this study can be used in the evaluation of current research information management systems and the selection of new systems for use in the research field. In addition, it can be used to improve current systems and purchase new systems by academic universities and research centers.
