Abstract

Background and Aim: Collaboration within and between healthcare teams facilitates effective healthcare provision. Fundamental strategies in effective healthcare services focus on collaboration and teamwork. This study was an attempt to assess reliability and validity of Team STEPPS Teamwork Attitudes Questionnaire (T-TAQ) in Iranian context.

Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional survey was conducted in Iran in 2012. Delphi method was applied and the questionnaire was submitted to 11 experts in 2 rounds to determine its face and content validity. Besides, it was translated and back translated to determine external validity. To estimate the reliability of the instrument, test-retest method was used. A sample of 67 medical and nursing senior students was stratified from Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS). T-TAQ is a questionnaire having 30 questions in 5 themes. The obtained data were analyzed by SPSS13.

Results: The content, face and external validity of the tool were approved by Iranian experts. Meanwhile, applying Cronbach's alpha, total reliability was estimated to be 0.80 moreover, the ICC turned out to be 0.8.

Conclusion : Since the validity and reliability of this instrument are confirmed in an Iranian context, it can be used to measure attitude regarding teamwork in this context.

Abstract

Background and Aim: InterProfessional Education (IPE) and collaboration is an inseparable part of professional team work to render efficient patient care. In addition, the readiness of medical students to take part in InterProfessional (IP) activities and considering IPE in undergraduate medical curriculum positively affects the IPE. This descriptive cross-sectional study aims to adapt the RIPLS for these contexts.

Materials and Methods: Permission to translate the questionnaire was secured from its developers (Parsell and Bligh). The questionnaire was translated to Persian and its face and content validity was confirmed by an expert panel (N=10). The adapted version was distributed among a random group of senior medical students of Tehran University of Medical Sciences (N=40). Finally, Test- retest was performed and Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was applied to assess reliability and internal consistency of the instrument. The Cronbach’s alpha’s cut-off point was 0.7 in this study.

Results: Experts confirmed face and content validity of the questionnaire, and it was internally consistent. The Cronbach’s alpha was 0.92. The intra-class correlation (ICC) was above 0.7 in each subscale.

Conclusion: This study indicates that Farsi version of RIPLS questionnaire is valid and reliable and it can be used to assess interprofessional readiness in Iranian contexts.

Abstract

Background and Aim: World Health Organization (WHO) has prioritized cultural competence to provide high-quality healthcare and patient-centered services. Therefore, it is necessary to develop them for all organizational levels. The present study aimed to determine the validity and reliability of the Persian version of OHCC (Ontario Healthy Communities Coalition) organizational cultural competence (2005) instrument in Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS).
Material and Methods: In order to confirm reliability, 143 staff members (nurses and physicians) in different administrative positions working in Imam Khomeini educational Hospital, completed the questionnaire. Modified HSR toolkit for translating and adapting instrument, was used for contextualizing the questionnaire: first, two medical education experts who were proficient in English translated it. Then, the content validity of Persian version was confirmed using Lawshe method (CVR and CVI = 0.79); its internal consistency was calculated by Cronbach's alpha coefficient (0.91). It was backward translated to compare with the original copy and was sent to experts for their approval. Construct validity was calculated by LISREL software and the result showed that the questions were fit to the domains. The KMO, calculated for this instrument, was 0.75 and α was less than 0.05.
Results: Content validity was confirmed by deleting two items from the original 22-item questionnaire. Cronbach's alpha was calculated as 0.95 following the removal of two items.
Conclusion: The organizational cultural competence instrument was confirmed to be valid and reliable with 20 items in Iranian context.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Hypertension is the strongest independent and modifiable factor for heart failure, ischemic heart disease, cerebrovascular accident and chronic kidney disease worldwide, which affects the quality of life of patients. In order to accurately assess the quality of life of patients, it is necessary to design a special questionnaire consisting of different dimensions in order to provide a good view of the quality of life of these patients. The purpose of this study is “Design and psychometrics of quality of life tools for patients with hypertension.”
Materials and Methods: The present study is a methodological research that was conducted in qualitative and quantitative parts. Participants in this study were 260 patients with hypertension referring to medical centers affiliated to Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS). The items were designed based on the qualitative part of the study and review of texts. The validation characteristics of the questionnaire were performed using face validity, content (qualitatively and quantitatively using two indicators CVR and CVI) and structure (with exploratory factor analysis approach). The reliability of the questionnaire was assessed by internal consistency and stability methods.
Results: In the qualitative section, 55 items were extracted, which after calculating the item impact score index with values higher than 1.5, content validity ratio greater than 0.56 and content validity index higher than 0.57, 45 items were selected. Using heuristic factor analysis, 42 items and three factors: 1) disease dominance including two subscales of physical (7 items) and psychosocial (20 items), 2) coping with the disease (12 items) and 3) compliance with Drug therapy (3 items) was found to jointly account for 53.30% of the observed variance. Cronbach’s alpha reported the internal reliability of the questionnaire as excellent, at 91%.
Conclusion: The designed questionnaire has appropriate and approved psychometric properties (validity and reliability) to measure the quality of life of patients with hypertension. Therefore, this tool is recommended for measuring the variables in Iranian patients with hypertension.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Evaluation of hospital environments with reliable and valid tools is considered to be one of the essential prerequisites for continuous improvement of the hospital learning environment. The present study aimed to translate and evaluate psychometric properties of the short version of the PHEEM questionnaire among the residents of Tehran University of Medical Sciences residents. 
Materials and Methods: This was a psychometric evaluation study. After translation and back translation, the questionnaire was provided to 18 experts. The content validity was qualitatively checked using the coefficients of content validity ratio (CVR), content validity index (CVI), and face validity. Then, the revised questionnaire was distributed among 20 residents. Face validity was evaluated by qualitative method and cognitive interview to check the questionnaire items in terms of difficulty level, appropriateness, and ambiguity. The test-retest method checked initial reliability by redistributing the questionnaire to the same residents with an interval of two weeks. In order to determine construct validity, the modified questionnaire was distributed among 548 medical residents from 24 specialized fields. The sample was selected using the convenience sampling method. Then the data were analyzed using exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. Internal consistency was calculated using Cronbach’s alpha.
Results: The questionnaire’s content validity ratio (CVR) and content validity index (CVI) were 0.93 and 0.88, respectively. Based on the results of face validity, some minor changes were made to the vocabulary of most items, and item 12 was wholly changed. The ICC coefficient was more than 0.90 in all dimensions. In the exploratory factor analysis using the principal component method (PCA), the Kaiser-Meyer-Elkin value was 0.83. Bartlett’s test of sphericity was statistically significant (P<0.001), which confirms the functionality of the correlation matrix. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of the questionnaire was 0.83, which indicates the internal consistency of the questionnaire items. 
Conclusions: According to the results, the PHEEM short-version questionnaire has good reliability and validity (face, content, and structure) among medical residents. Therefore, this measure can be used to evaluate residents’ perceptions regarding the quality of the educational environment of hospitals.

Abstract

Background and Aim: The use of Mobile-Health is helpful in facilitating therapeutic communication between students and healthcare providers. Considering the benefits of the Mobile-Health, it is very important to have a tool that can check the motivation to use Mobile-Health. Therefore, this study was conducted with the aim of Psychometric properties of mHealth Technology Engagement Index.
Materials and Methods: The present study is psychometric research that was conducted in Tehran University of Medical Sciences in 1401. The participants of this study were 450 students of medical sciences in Tehran in undergraduate, master’s and doctorate levels who were included in the study through convenience sampling. The psychometric characteristics of the questionnaire were examined through face, content and construct validity respectively. Principal component analysis was performed using varimax rotation in order to check the factorial structure of the questionnaire. The reliability of the questionnaire was checked with the help of Cronbach’s alpha and intra- class correlation (ICC).
Results: The questionnaire’s content validity ratio (CVR) and content validity index (CVI) were 0.91 and 0.86, respectively. In the formal validity check, minor changes were made in the words of most of the items. Based on the results of face validity, some minor changes were made to the vocabulary of most items. The ICC coefficient was more than 0.80 in all dimensions. The results of exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis extracted five factors, autonomy, competence, relatedness, goal setting and goal attainment, and their cumulative variance was %71.48.  The fit of the five-factor model was optimal based on standard goodness of fit indices such as CFI=0.978, GFI=0.930, RMSEA=0.040, CMIN/DF=1.307. Convergent and divergent validity was accepted for all factors. The reliability of the questionnaire was obtained using Cronbach’s alpha test of 0.71.
Conclusion: The five factor structure of the questionnaire of interaction with mobile health technology has good validity and reliability. Therefore, this questionnaire can be used to check the level of interaction of users of medical science students with mobile health technology.
