Abstract

Background and Aim: Prevalence of anabolic steroids (ASs) consumption among bodybuilders has increased progressively. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of ASs consumption on C-reactive protein (CRP) in bodybuilders.

Materials and Methods: Sixty healthy men (age: 24/1± 9/1yr weight: 77±10 kg and height: 172±12 cm) participated in the study voluntarily. These subjects were selected from three groups. First group (FG) was bodybuilders who consumed ASs (n=20), second group (SG) was bodybuilders who did not consume ASs (n=20) and third group (TG) were untrained subjects as control (n=20). Blood samples were collected in fasting state (12 hours) at 09:00 for CRP assessment. Strength and volume of the forearm, pectoral major and femur muscles were measured via 1RM test and muscle circumstances, respectively. Speed was assessed by 30m speed test. Analysis of variance test and LSD post-hoc test was used.

Results: FG had significantly greater blood CRP (P<0/05) compared to other groups. However, differences between SG and TG were not significant. Muscle strength, and forearm and femur circumstances were greater in FG than other groups. Furthermore, this was greater in SG than TG. But chest circumstance was greater in FG and SG than TG only. There were no significant differences in speed between groups.

Conclusion: ASs consumption for muscle strength and volume improvement in bodybuilders is accompanied by higher level of CRP (as a cardiovascular risk factor).

Abstract

Background and Aim: The increase of food residuals specially in hospital can lead to a decrease in food intake and customer satisfaction and also increase the cost of remedy and hospitalization. The goal of this study was to determine the effect of food service training of food staff on the amount of food residuals to improve hospital catering.

Materials and Methods: This was cross sectional study. The study population consisted of staff and patients in orthopedic, chemotherapy and surgery wards and their relatives (n=130). The tools of this study were satisfaction survey questionnaire and food residual observational checklist. Questionnaires were completed by the study population and observational checklist by the researchers. Data were analysed using SPSS Software.

Results: Significant difference were observed between the amount of food residual before and after personnel training (t=-5/36, p=0/001).The average amount of food remaining in the breakfast from 1/8 in pre-teaching was decreased to 0/7, at lunch from 2/09 to1/89 and in dinner time from 2/2 to 1/6.

Conclusion: It seems that educational planning of personnel could increase their knowledge about their duties and weaknesses and improves quality performance which leads to customer satisfaction and hospital profitability.

Abstract

 Background and Aim: Every educational system, whether micro or macro, needs its training programs to be studied and educationally evaluated. This study aims to assess training and internship programs in hospitals based on surveying the students of Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS).

 Materials and Methods: This is a cross-sectional study with survey descriptive design. The data collection tool was a questionnaire with 14 five-point Likert style items. The TUMS Educational Development Center (EDC) surveyed all 185 students of training and internship programs, using a questionnaire with the Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of 0.81 in 2011, in order to adjust the education with the society’s needs and to improve its quality.

 Results: The mean assessment scores of training and internship programs were 3.32%, 2.98%, 3.38%, and 3.29% for applied training, mental skills, communication skills, and practical skills courses, respectively.

 Conclusion: The students’ satisfaction rate regarding the quality of educational courses of training and internship programs was 50.2%. Educational authorities have made necessary attempts to implement these programs and use potential resources for realizing the objectives and achieving the educational quality however, they should make further attempts in this regard.

Abstract

Background and Aim : Nurses' perception of spirituality can affect the way they behave and communicate with patients in line with spiritual care provision. The present study aims to investigate nurses' perception , capability, and adequacy of training about spirituality and spiritual care in Genaveh hospitals affiliated to Bushehr University of Medical Sciences (BUMS) .

Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was performed among 111 nurses working in BUMS hospitals in 2013. The spirituality and spiritual care scale (SSCRS) was used for data collection, which explores nine aspects of spirituality and spiritual care. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data. 

Results: The overall spirituality and spiritual care was 3.86 (out of 5). Among the nine aspects of need for spirituality, belief in God had the highest mean score, and beliefs and values had the least mean values. About 78.7 % of the participants were confronted with the patients' spiritual needs. Meanwhile, 74.6 % of them noted that the current training about spiritual care was not sufficient .

Conclusion: Although most participants were able to meet the patients' spiritual needs, most of the nurses did not know enough about the issues related to spiritual care. Therefore, inclusion of spiritual care in nursing curriculum and holding workshops and training courses in this area can be useful.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Due to the unprecedented growth of health management information, it is necessary to train human forces working in hospitals. Therefore, this study was conducted to identify the relationship between in-service training of staff in Aboozar hospital on the one hand and organizational commitment, job satisfaction, and organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) on the other. 
Materials and Methods: We conducted this cross-sectional (descriptive-analytic) study on the statistical population of Aboozar hospital in Ahvaz in 2015. One hundred hospital employees were selected. The data collection instruments included a researcher-made questionnaire for the evaluation of in-service training, Smith and Organ’s OCB questionnaire, Fishman and Common’s questionnaire of job satisfaction, and Balfour and Wechsler’s organizational commitment questionnaire. We analyzed the data using descriptive statistics as well as ANOVA. 
Results: The results showed that there was a significant relationship between 
in-service training of employees and job satisfaction (r=0.53, P<0.001), organizational commitment (r=0.3, P=0.004) and OCB (r=0.36, P< 0.03). 
Conclusion: Because of the relationship between the importance of performance and staff members’ qualification -- that is achieved following effective training -- in health system, employees’ job training average score was at an optimum level; but the nursing staff’s mean score of training, job satisfaction, organizational commitment and administrative OCB was lower than that of other staff. Therefore, the necessity to pay attention to the training of staff, especially nurses, becomes more and more evident. Besides, the goals of education will be achieved more easily, that is, employees’ performance will be improved.

Abstract

Background and aim: This study aimed to investigate the effect of six weeks high intensity interval training (HIIT) and moderate intensity continuous training on health status in over weight males with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
Materials and Methods: Thirty overweight males with NAFLD were randomly divided into three groups included control (n=10), HIIT group (n=10), continuous training (CT) group (n=10). The HIIT included four sets of two minutes running with a 90-95% heart rate reserve and 3 minutes of active rest between each set; every week, a repeat was added to the workout. Continuous aerobic training included 20 minutes of running with an intensity of 70-85% heart rate reserve, which every week was added five minutes to the workout. Aerobic power, liver enzymes and lipid profiles were measured in serum by valid tools and data analyzed by co-variancetest.
Results: After six weeks of training program, the serum levels of ALT, AST, ALP, lipid profiles and degree of fatty liver sonography improved significantly in the experimental groups compared to the control group (P< 0/05). Increased HDL and decreased LDL, total Cholesterol, AST and ALT levels in HIIT group were significantly than the CT group (P<0/05). The improvement in maximum oxygen uptake was only significant in HIIT group than other groups (P<0/05).
Conclusion: Base on finding, HIIT compare with continuous training by better effects on aerobic power, lipid profiles and reduction of liver enzymes can be a good choice for patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Aging process is associated with increased free radicals and cellular damage. However, resistance training may cause balance of the oxidative and antioxidant system in the elderly. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of eight weeks of progressive resistance training (PRT) on malondialdehyde (MDA) concentration and superoxide dismutase (SOD) enzyme activity in inactive elderly women.
Materials and Methods: 26 inactive elderly women voluntarily participated in present study and divided into progressive resistance training (PRT; n=13) and control group (Con; n=13). The PRT performed resistance training for eight weeks (three sessions per week). Blood samples were collected before and after 8 week of progressive resistance training and analyzed for MDA concentration and SOD activities. 
Results: Results showed that after eight weeks of progressive resistance training, MDA concentration significantly decreased in the PRT compared to the control group (p=0.001). Also, SOD activity in the PRT was significantly increased compared to the control group (p=0.002).
Conclusion: The present study showed progressive resistance training cause reduction in malondialdehyde concentration and increase activity of superoxide dismutase that is an important factor in reducing aging process. Therefore, it seems that the regular resistance training causes to balance the oxidant system and reinforcement the antioxidant system in the body and can play a role in preventing serious damage that caused by oxidative stress, especially in aging.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Excessive production of free radicals and the accumulation of oxidative damages play an important role in accelerating the aging process. However, one of the ways to fight against aging and related diseases is through physical activity. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of 12 weeks of resistance training on oxidative stress indicators (8-iso-prostaglandin-F2α: 8-iso PGF2α) and oxidative DNA damage (8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine: 8-OHdG) in elderly men.
Materials and Methods: In this quasi-experimental study, 30 elderly men were selected voluntarily and purposefully as a statistical sample and were randomly divided into experimental (n=15) and control (n=15) groups. Participants of the experimental group performed resistance exercises three sessions per week for 12 weeks. At the beginning and end of the study, serum levels of 8-iso PGF2α and 8-OHdG were measured by ELISA method. Correlated and independent t-tests were used to compare intragroup and intergroup means, respectively.
Results: Serum values of 8-iso PGF2α (P=0.007) and 8-OHdG (P=0.013) decreased significantly after 12 weeks of resistance training. Also, there was a significant difference between the experimental and control groups in serum values of 8-iso PGF2α (P=0.009) and 8-OHdG (P=0.02).
Conclusion: It seems that 12 weeks of resistance training reduces the values of oxidative stress (8-iso PGF2α) and oxidative DNA damage (8-OHdG) indicators in older men. Therefore, regular resistance training can play an important role in preventing injuries caused by oxidative stress, especially in old age.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Recent studies indicate that increased body iron stores have been associated with the development of glucose intolerance and type 2 Diabetes. Ferritin is the most important iron storage protein in the body, which is used to evaluate disorders associated with iron metabolism. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of eight weeks of aerobic training on serum ferritin level, glycemic and lipid indices in women with type 2 Diabetes.
Material and Methods: Twenty Diabetic women aged 45-55 years were selected voluntarily and divided into experimental (n=10) and control (n=10) groups. The experimental group participated in the aerobic training program for eight weeks, three 60-minutes sessions per week with an intensity of 55-65% of heart rate reserve. The control group did not participate in any activity during the intervention period. Serum ferritin, glycemic and lipid indices were evaluated before and after eight weeks and then data were analyzed by SPSS software.
Results: Ferritin (P=0.012), insulin (P=0.004), fasting glucose (P=0.041), insulin resistance index (P=0.012), total cholesterol (P=0.041), and triglyceride (P=0.005) significantly decreased, while the mean of HDL(P=0.012) significantly increased in the experimental group. Moreover, the results showed that changes in ferritin (P=0.002), insulin (P=0.014), insulin resistance index (P=0.001) and TG (P=0.010) were statistically significant between the experimental and control groups.
Conclusion: Women with type 2 Diabetes can benefit from moderate-intensity aerobic exercise programs to improve their glycemic and lipid profile, as well as iron metabolism abnormalities.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Sedentary life style increases risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). Physical activity and green tea supplementation can reduce cardiovascular risk factors by improving inflammation and body composition. The aim of study was to determine benefits of 8 weeks of spinning training and green tea supplementation on risk factors cardiovascular and body composition in overweight women.
Materials and Methods: A total 32 overweight women based on BMI (Body Mass Index) (27.1±1.6) and (24.9±3.6 years) were randomly divided into three groups: Spinning+green tea (n=11), spinning+placebo (n=11) and control (placebo +no training) (n=10). Training groups carried out 8 weeks of spinning training with an intensity of 11-17 Rating of Perceived Exertion (RPE). Blood sampling were obtained 48 h before starting the interventions and then 48 h after last training session. Serum concentration of hs-CRP (high sensitive C-reactive protein) and blood level of fibrinogen were measured. In addition, BMI and BF% (Body fat percent), bioelectrical impedance analysis was performed.
Results: After 8 weeks of interventions only hs-CRP was significantly decreased in spinning+green tea group (P=0.005). In addition, fibrinogen (P=0.001), BF% (P=0.001) and BMI (P=0.001) were significantly decreased in both training groups. Also, there was significant difference of hs-CRP in the training groups (P=0.028). However, no significant difference of fibrinogen and BF% were observed between the training groups. In the case of fibrinogen both spinning+green and spinning+placebo groups had a significant difference with control group (P=0.004), (P=0.014) respectively. Regarding BF% and BMI only a significant difference wera between the spinning+green and control (P=0.006), (P=0.007) respectively.
Conclusion: It seems that spinning training has improved risk factors of cardiovascular and body composition. Indeed, green tea supplementation has increased the effectiveness of spinning training.

Abstract

Background and Aim: The prevalence of obesity is recognized as a health problem worldwide. Metabolic syndrome as the most important obesity factor is considered as one of the health problems in all societies. Supportive and complementary interventions are considered improvements in the status of individuals with metabolic syndrome. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effects of eight weeks of sodium alginate supplementation and high intensity interval training on lipid profiles and liver enzymes in metabolic syndrome women.
Materials and Methods: Thirty women with metabolic syndrome were randomly assigned into 4 groups: intermittent exercise (High Intensity Interval Training)+supplement (n=9), intermittent exercise (HIIT) )n=8), complementary (n=7) and control group (n=6). Subjects in HIIT and HIIT + supplementation groups performed three sessions of intermittent exercise each week for eight weeks with an intensity of 85% to 95% of the maximum heart rate. Sodium alginate supplementation was taken three times a week and 30 minutes before meals in the amount of 1.5 g of sodium alginate dissolved in 100 mg of water. Blood sampling were taken from all 4 groups 48 hours before and after the exercise program. One-way ANOVA and t-test were used for data analysis (P≤0.05).
Results: The results showed that in the exercise+supplement group lipid profile (P=0.005) and aspartate aminotransferase (P=0.012)(17.8%), fat percentage (P=0.001)(9.7%), BMI (P=0.000) and alanine aminotransferase (P=0.035)(12.7%) compared to the other group were significantly reduced, indicating the effect of intermittent exercise and supplementation on improving the symptoms of metabolic syndrome in women participating in this study.
Conclusion: According to the results of this study, it seems that high intensity intermittent exercise with sodium alginate supplementation can be effective in prevention of some obesity related diseases and treatment of the metabolic syndrome.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Diabetes is a multifactorial disease characterized by chronic high blood sugar and insulin resistance. In general, the global increase in the incidence of type 2 diabetes is caused by poor nutrition and inactivity. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of 8 weeks of combined exercise with quinoa supplementation on fasting blood sugar, appetite and quality of life in women with type 2 diabetes.
Materials and Methods: In this study, 36 women with type 2 diabetes were divided into 3 groups: exercise+supplement (n=12), supplement (n=12) and control (n=12). The exercise+supplement and supplement group consumed 25 grams of cooked quinoa seeds for 3 days a week. The exercise+supplement group also did combined exercise for 8 weeks, 3 times a week. Exercise was performed with an intensity of 10-12 pressure perception. The Persian version of the quality-of-life questionnaire was used to measure the quality-of-life index and the appetite questionnaire was used to assess appetite. Blood samples were taken 48 hours before and after the interventions, measurements and questionnaires were completed. One Way ANOVA, LSD post hoc and paired t were used at the significance level of P≤0.05.
Results: According to the results of 8 weeks of intervention in the exercise+supplement group (P=0.001)(2.59%) and the supplement group (P=0.04)(1.54%) compared to the control group (P=0.32)(1.54%) caused a significant reduction in Fasted blood sugar. There was also a significant decrease in appetite index in the exercise+supplement group (P<0.001)(54.20%) and the supplement group (P=0.001)(60.31%) as compared to the control group (P=0.11)(7.91%). Quality of life data also showed a significant increase in this index in the exercise+supplement group (P=0.008)(5.95%) and supplement group (P=0.002)(3.80%) as compared to the control group (P=0.10)(0.99%).
Conclusion: Eight weeks of combined exercise with consumption of quinoa seeds has a positive and improving effect on fasting blood sugar index, quality of life and appetite in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Educating the audience is one of the things that can affect their mental perception of the usefulness and ease of utilizing technology. Due to the lack of knowledge about the unique features and ease of use of Tehran University of Medical Sciences website, some audiences prefer to use the old website and do not accept the changes on the university website well. This research was conducted with the aim of comparing the two methods of face-to-face training and clip training in accepting information technology changes on the university website and evaluating the audience’s awareness of branding features on the web.
Materials and Methods: There were 90 people who participated in this study, 45 of whom received face-to-face training and 45 of them received training about site changes through video clips. Research data collection was done based on Davis questionnaire and data analysis was done using SPSS and Padprism graph software. To compare a quantitative variable in more than two groups, one-way analysis of variance test or Kruskal-Wallis test and also, and also, one-way ANCOVA test were used to check the difference between groups before and after training.
Results: In face-to-face training, variables such as awareness, usefulness and perceived ease of use, as well as attitude and performance regarding the use of information technology before and after face-to-face training or clip did not have significant differences.
Conclusion: Examining the effectiveness of the teaching methods in this project will help the public relations of the university to act quickly for the changes that will occur in the field of web branding in the future, in terms of preparing and accompanying the audience.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Adipokines imbalance causes pathological effects on this system. Exercise interventions can play an important role in regulating the secretion of adipokines. This study aimed to investigate the effect of 12 weeks of resistance training on the serum level of apelin, vaspin, and blood pressure in elderly men with hypertension.
Materials and Methods: In this quasi-experimental study, 24 elderly men with high blood pressure were selected purposefully and based on the inclusion criteria and were randomly assigned to resistance training (N=12) and control (N=12) groups. The participants of the resistance training group performed resistance training for 12 weeks and three days a week. At the beginning and end of the study, blood samples were collected to measure the serum level of apelin and vaspin. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 24 software with dependent and independent t-tests at a significant level of less than 0.05.
Results: After 12 weeks of resistance training, there was a significant decrease in the serum level of apelin (P=0.002), vaspin (P=0.01), systolic blood pressure (P<0.001), and diastolic blood pressure (P<0.001) as compared to the pre-test. In addition, a significant difference was observed between the two experimental and control groups in the serum level of apelin (p=0.001), vaspin (P=0.001), systolic blood pressure (P<0.001), and diastolic blood pressure (P<0.001).
Conclusion: It seems 12 weeks of resistance training can improve systolic and diastolic blood pressure and regulate the secretion of adipokines apelin and vaspin in elderly men with high blood pressure.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Training and proper distribution of human resources are essential for maintaining and promoting society’s health. The first step in any health-related planning is to assess the current situation to draw a clear picture of the future to balance demand and supply. This research was conducted to assess the current situation of medical entomology and vector control/biology and vector control of the diseases in the country and determine the required human resources till 2025.
Materials and Methods: In this study, a “modified and combination model” was used, including the Hall model, which is location-based, and the Australian health workforce estimation model, which is a needs-based approach. The research was carried out in multiple stages, which included collecting the required data (number of faculty members, students, and graduates), the number of private companies providing spraying, and pest control services in all cities of the country and finally holding meetings with the board members of Biology and vector control of diseases and experts to estimate the human resources required in this field.
Results: Based on the data collected and face-to-face interviews conducted during six sessions with the experts in this field, it has been estimated that a total of 985 graduates have been trained in this discipline to date, while there is a requirement for 1,338 graduates in this area. Consequently, it is essential to train an additional 353 individuals in this field by the year 1404. In light of the country’s sixth five-year development plan, which allocates 30 percent of the total student population to postgraduate studies, it is imperative to prepare 35 individuals at the doctoral level, 71 at the master’s level, and 247 at the undergraduate level.
Conclusion: It seems that by accepting an average of 9 people at the Ph.D. level, 18 people at the master’s level, and 62 people at the bachelor’s level, in addition to matching the amount of demand and supply, there will be no problem for the employment of the graduates of this field.
