The role of beta-interferons in multiple sclerosis (MS): A review article |

Several immunomodulatory and immunosuppressive therapies have been demonstrated to modify the course of multiple sclerosis during the last two decades. Theses drugs mostly impact the inflammatory phase of the disease and reduce the number of relapses or try to decrease disability comparing to placebo. Beta interferons were among the first agents that partially influence the course of the disease. Special factors such as disease course, type of MS, neutralizing antibodies and adverse events should be considered during administering theses drugs. This review outlines biological properties, current evidences supporting efficacy, and adverse events of beta interferons. |
