Study on the frequency of extended spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) producing Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumonia in patients referring to hospital and special clinic of Imam Reza hospital of Mashhad |

Introduction: In recent decades, extended spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) producing bacteria have increased worldwide. The most important causative agents of nosocomial infections throughout the world, E. coli and K. pneumonia as main ESBL producing bacteria are highly regarded so .trend in treatment of infection by such bacteria has led to a global concern .This study was conducted to evaluate the incidence of ESBL producing E. coli and K. pneumonia among inpatients and outpatients referred to Imam Reza hospital unit in Mashhad.please mention the date of experiment Method: This study represents descriptive cross sectional study. All 339 samples from hospital and special clinic of Imam Reza hospital of Mashhad were collected and cultured on definited media.identification by morphological and Biochemical tests were performed to determine the Enterobacteriaceae genera. The secretion of ESBL was studied by double disc diffusion method. At the end, the data were analyzed by statistical software. Results: Out of 339 isolates collected from 192 women (56.6%) and 147 men (43.4%), from 211 E. coli 26.5% and 128 of K. pneumonia 43% were ESBL positive. Most of the ESBLposetive were related to ICU and least of them were related to neonate ward. Conclusion: The present study indicates the high prevalence of ESBL producing Enterobacteriaceae family especially in inpatients referred to hospital. Adopting restrictions to limiting unjustified use of efficient antimicrobial drugs recommended as a critical point to controll spread and treatment of such super bugs. |
