Abstract

The author conducted 1-year study investigating the causation and management of eye trauma at Farabi Eye' center. All patients sustaining eye injuries who were evaluated by ophthalmology service over one year interval were included.
. A formal questionnaire was completed with details of the injuiy being obtained. An ophthalmologic examination was performed on each patient, and examination findings and diagnostic tests obtained, diagnosis and treatment were recorded and analyzed.
Nine hundreds and sixty-one injuries (65%) occured in males and 503 (35%) in females. The average age was 30 years. This study included 1464 eye injuries.
Four handreds and eighty-five (nearly 30%) of patients were in pediatric age group. Seventy percent of all patients were admitted within 24 hours of their injury. Fourty percent of all injuries occurred in the street, 30% at home, 15% at the work place , the rest either in school or sport field.
Among those older than 65 years of age, 70% of injuries were the result of fall. Seventy percent of all eye injuries were caused by blunt trauma. Diagnosis and management were recorded.
Conclusions : Tehran and other metropolitans population is more likely to sustain eye trauma as the result of an assault and is less likely to be involved in a work- or sports-related one.
Given poor compliance without patient management and follow-up, aggressive primary management may be indicated to optimize visual outcome

Abstract

Background: According to the previous studies, stress influences on eating behavior and is associated with unhealthy food selection. Furthermore, the research literature indicates that stress, anxiety, and depression can cause polyphagia and overweight. The purpose of present study is to investigate the relationship between depression, anxiety, and stress scales and dietary behavior in female high school students.
Methods: The cross-section study was carried out from April to December 2016 on high school female students of Tehran City by confirmation and protection of Nutrition Sciences and Food Technology Faculty at Shahid Beheshti Medical Sciences University, Tehran, Iran. 400 samples were selected by using multistage cluster sampling method. After receiving consent and recording socio-economic information, the data associated with stress, anxiety, and depression score were collected by a short questionnaire of Depression Anxiety Stress Scales 21 (DASS-21). In order to survey the dietary behavior of students, the 168-item semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) was applied. In addition, to assess the association between dietary behavior and stress, anxiety and depression, chi-squared test and logistic regression model were employed.
Results: Based on the results of the present paper, 49.8 percent of students, studied in this research, had stress levels, 56.3 percent of them suffered from anxiety and 55.3 percent of them had depression levels. The salt intake amounts of students who had high stress, depression, and anxiety, were more than of normal ones (respectively P=0.01, 0.02, 0.006). Additionally, fast food consumptions of students, suffering from anxiety, were also higher than normal (P=0.07). Subjects, which were categorized in depressed group, rarely eat natural fruit juice (P=0.03), and, stressful students use few natural fruit juices (P=0.006) and few fresh fruits too (P=0.02).
Conclusion: Students with levels of stress, depression and anxiety in comparison to normal students, have more undesirable food habits, such problems may lead dietary behavior to unhealthy foods. More studies are required to clarify the relationships between dietary behavior and stress, depression and anxiety.

Abstract

Background: Cholangiocarcinoma is a cancer of the bile duct epithelium that originates from the bile ducts inside or outside the liver. Although this tumor is not common, its mortality rate is high. This tumor accounts for about 3% of all gastrointestinal malignancies. Many patients are being detected when the disease has spread. Evaluating risk factors affecting the incidence of cholangiocarcinoma is very important to avoid exposure to them. Therefore, this study was performed to evaluate the risk factors for cholangiocarcinoma in a population in Iran.
Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study. It was performed on 276 patients with cholangiocarcinoma who had been referred to Firoozgar Hospital affiliated with the Iran University of Medical Sciences in Tehran from March 2020 to February 2021. Demographic information, family and personal history, social history (tobacco or drug use) and blood group of patients were extracted from their files. SPSS version 16 was used for data analysis. A P-value below 0.05 was considered statistically significant.
Results: The mean±SD age of patients was 65.97±13.07 years, of whom 65.6% were male and 34.4% were females. The most common site of cholangiocarcinoma was the distal part of the bile ducts and the most common blood group was O+. The main manifestations were jaundice and pruritus. Among the risk factors, the most common ones were smoking, high blood pressure, history of gallstones, opium use, history of cancer of other systems in the family, history of cholecystectomy and diabetes mellitus. While, the lowest prevalence of risk factors was related to heroin use, IBD, Gallbladder polyps, pancreatitis and alcohol consumption. None of the patients in our study had a history of viral hepatitis or PSC.
Conclusion: This was a cross-sectional study and only in the group of cholangiocarcinoma patients, therefore, larger prospective studies are recommended to examine underlying mechanisms of malignant transformation in the biliary tree.
