Abstract

Background: Proteolytic enzymes, especially collagenases, are used for digestion of extracellular matrix, cell isolation and primary culture. Because of the problems in purification and low amount of collagenases in bacterial or animal sources, it is important to find new sources of the enzymes. So, in the present study actinidin, a plentiful protein in kiwifruit was purified and a mixture of actinidin and trypsin was applied to isolate rat aortic endothelial cells. Methods: Aortic endothelial cells were isolated using digestion solution containing different concentrations of actinidin (from 2 to 16 mg/ml) and trypsin (0.3, 0.6, 1.2 and 2.4 mg/ml) in different times (from 15 to 90 minute). Isolated cells were cultured in DMEM culture medium. Isolated cells were identified by morphological characteristics and immunocytochemical staining viability of separated cells was estimated by trypan blue exclusion test. Results: Actinidin in concentration of 10 mg/ml with trypsin in concentration of 1.2 mg/ml for one hour could isolate rat aortic endothelial cells. In this condition the viability of cells was estimated 90%. Morphological and immunocytochemical charac- teristics confirmed the isolated cells as endothelial cells. Conclusion: The results showed that the mentioned mixture of actinidin and trypsin has not considerable toxic effects on separated cells and is a novel and suitable option for isolation of rat aortic endothelial cells

Abstract

Background: Primary cutaneous lymphoma is separated into two groups, cutaneous lymphoma (CTCL) and cutaneous B-CELL Lymphoma (CBCL). This study was performed to classify histopathologically and define demographic features of Persian patients with primary cutaneous lymphoma.
Methods: Twenty hundred and thirty four patients with primary cutaneous lymphoma who have been referred to Razi Hospital in Tehran, Iran during at four year period (October 2005 to October 2009), were investigated in this study. The data were gathered by reviewing their medical records andexaminedagain extant evidence andhistology slides.
Results: Among 234 Patients, the only clinical feature that could be assessed was itching. The most common involves location of disease was generalized. 189 (80.77%) cases of the patients had CTCL and 45 (19.23%) cases of the patients had CBCL. Age of patients with two lymphoma type were similar at the this time of diagnosis. Sex supremacy was with men in two groups.
Conclusion: This study provides histopathologic classification and demographic data.

Abstract

Background: Nowadays, chronic kidney disease (CKD) is known as an epidemic disease all around the world. Chronic kidney disease considered as a serious health problem with numerous side effects, including complications progressive in reducing glomerular filtration rate (GFR), imbalances in the homeostasis of the body and decreased quality of life and finally an increase in mortality due to cardiovascular problems. End-stage renal disease leads to hypocalcemia and hyperphosphatemia, that as a result of, parathyroid hormone (PTH) will increased that secondary hyperparathyroidism will occurred eventually. So it is essential to routine examination of electrolytes in these patients. The current study have been done to determine the electrolytes in saliva as a non-invasive sample in hemodialysis patients in order to the saliva to be presented as an appropriate samples for clinical laboratories.

Methods: In the present case-control study that has been performed at Imam Ali Hospital, Bojnord, North Khorasan Province, Iran, in the summer of 2016, 44 hemodialysis patients and 44 aged, gender and body mass index (BMI) matched healthy controls were selected and then their cell count, Hb, HCT, iron, ferritin, total iron binding capacity (TIBC), glucose, CRP, triglycerides, cholesterol, urea, creatinine, calcium, phosphorus, potassium and PTH were measured.

Results: Calcium and phosphorus were higher in hemodialysis patients in comparison to the control group. Furthermore, there are not any significant relationship between levels of calcium, phosphorus and potassium in both serum and saliva samples. In addition, we observed the positive relationship between PTH in serum as well as phosphorus and potassium in the saliva.

Conclusion: The findings of current study have been shown that salivary levels of calcium and phosphorus in hemodialysis patients is higher than healthy people, therefor could be a non- invasive suitable marker for diagnosis. In addition, blood PTH levels in hemodialysis patients is associated with salivary levels of phosphorus and potassium, so, perhaps these parameters marked PTH's representative in the blood with further investigation of saliva’s electrolytes.

Abstract

Background: Vesicoureteral reflux (urinary reflux) is one of the most common congenital anomalies in children. This study aimed to compare the ureteral opening distance from the midline in children with vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) and healthy children
Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed on the children with pyelonephritis who were referred to Afzalipour Hospital in Kerman, Iran from August 2019 to August 2020. Twenty children with vesicoureteral reflux (urinary reflux) and twenty healthy children were randomly selected. Then children with vesicoureteral reflux (urinary reflux) and healthy children were divided into two groups. The distance from the ureter to the midline in these children was then measured by a radiologist with a Philips affinity 70 ultrasound machine.
Results: In both groups (healthy children and ones with vesicoureteral reflux), ninety-five percent of the children were girls. The mean age of the children in the second group (the children with urinary reflux) was 5.8±2.58 years and the mean age of the children in the first group (the healthy children) was 4.75±1.54 years. The mean age difference between the children with urinary reflux and healthy children was not statistically significant (P=0.127). The mean distance of the ureter from the midline in children with vesicoureteral reflux was 11.44±2.60 mm and the mean distance of the ureter from the midline in healthy children was 9.32±2.74 mm. The mean difference distance of the ureter from the midline in children with vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) and healthy children was statistically significant (P=0.002).
Conclusion: Considering that the distance between the ureter and the midline in patients with urinary reflux is significantly longer than non-reflux ureters, it can be used as a non-invasive method for the diagnosis of vesicoureteral reflux (urinary reflux) in children.
