Background: Human
amniotic membrane (HAM) forms the inner wall of the membranous sac that surrounds and
protects the embryo during gestation.
The main advantages of amniotic membrane transplantation (AMT) in the treatment of bacterial
keratitis are its epithelial bandage properties. Previous studies have
documented the presence of some antimicrobial proteins and peptides in amniotic
fluid such as lactoferrin, lysozyme, bactericidal or permeability increasing
protein, calprotectin (MRP8/14 protein complex), LL37, and neutrophil defensins (Human Neutrophil Peptides, HNP
1-3). Furthermore, the amniotic membrane does
not express HLA-A, B, C or DR surface antigens, which may help avoid rejection after its transplantation.
Thus, it can be used as a biological immune barrier. The purpose of this study was
to evaluate the effectiveness of the amniotic membrane's healing properties in
rabbits with pseudomonas keratitis.
Methods : By using an animal model, 14 rabbits were divided into two groups of controls and cases. A syringe was used to inoculate
the corneal stroma of the animals by Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC27853. After 20 hours
pseudomonas keratitis was created and amniotic membrane was transplanted to the
cornea of the case group. The infiltration size were observed on the first, third
and seventh days after the experiment.
Results : Corneal perforation was seen in the controls (P<0.001) but amniotic membrane
prevented perforation in the case group (P=0.02).
Conclusion: Transplantation of
amniotic membrane in the primary stages of pseudomonas keratitis treatment remarkably
prevents corneal perforation and it can be used to control the disease process.

Abstract
Background: Immunosuppressive drugs that are widely used to prevent acute and chronic organ rejections, predispose organ transplant patients to a variety of diseases including skin problems. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of skin lesions and to investigate their association with demographic characteristics in renal transplant patients.
Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed on 100 patients who were referred to the nephrology clinic of Baqiyatallah Hospital, Tehran, Iran and underwent kidney transplantation within a year (from the first working day of the Iranian Hijri calendar in April 2015 until the last working day in March 2016). Patients were referred to a dermatologist in case of any skin lesions. Patients' data were collected in a researcher-made questionnaire and were analyzed using SPSS software, version 18. The p values less than 5% were considered to be significant.

Results: The mean and standard deviation (SD) of the patients' age was 50/4±11/8 years. The average time of incidence of skin lesion after transplantation has been 8/1 ± 5/7 weeks. The most common types of non-melanoma cancers were squamous cell carcinoma (2%) and Kaposi's sarcoma (4%) and there was no significant difference between men and women (p>0.05). Sixty-six percent of the patients had skin infections and the most common skin infections were wart (34%) and tinea versicolor (11%). The relative frequency of skin infections was significantly higher in male patients than in females (p=0.004). Considering all other confounding variables including smoking, hypertension, diabetes and other infectious diseases, the only noteworthy finding was the higher relative frequency of tinea versicolor in diabetic compared with non-diabetic patients (p=0.046).
Conclusion: This study showed that skin complications including various neoplastic (Sarcoma and Carcinoma), infectious (fungal and viral), and other (Acne and Hypertrichosis) diseases are common in patients with kidney transplantation who are taking immunosuppressive drugs. Informing these patients and medical staff about skin problems leads to an early referral of patients and increases their life expectancy and improves their quality of life.

Abstract
Background: Fetal health diagnostic tests are tools to reduce the incidence of adverse outcomes and neonatal death. However, their diagnostic value is still debated in relation to various outcomes. The aim of this study was to evaluate the value of biophysical profile and sonographic cerebroplacental ratio in predicting childbirth mode and adverse neonatal outcomes.
Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 70 pregnant women (37-41 weeks) who were candidates for termination of pregnancy who were referred to Ayatollah Mousavi Hospital in Zanjan from October 2020 to May 2021 were studied. After selecting the mothers based on inclusion criteria, biophysical profile test (BPP) and CPR sonographic index were performed. Then delivery method, infant weight, fifth minute Apgar score, need for resuscitation and hospitalization of infants in NICU were recorded in each case. T-test, Mann-Whitney test and ROC curve in SPSS 22 software were used for statistical analysis. (P≤0.05).

Results: In this study, the mean (SD) gestational age of participants was 38.56±1.11 weeks. Based on the data, there was a statistically significant relationship between CPR and the infant's need for resuscitation and hospitalization in the NICU (P=0.021) and Apgar score (P=0.042). However, there was no statistically significant relationship between CPR and delivery method, gestational age and birth weight. BPP score was not significantly associated with any of the consequences. Based on the results of the ROC curve, CPR with a cut point of 1.59 with a sensitivity of 88.9% and a specificity of 75% is able to predict the need for resuscitation and hospitalization in the NICU, and with a sensitivity of 83% and a specificity of 54.5%, it is able to predict a low Apgar score. However, BPP score did not have a predictive role in any of the studied parameters.
Conclusion: It seems that CPR examination around delivery can be useful in predicting the condition of the baby immediately after birth and preparing the treatment staff for immediate action.
